The data for this work were obtained with the Magnetic Detector at the electron-positron storage ring SPEAR. These results indicate the existence of three states chi, with masses 3415, 3500, and 3550 MeV, produced in radiative decays of psi'. There is evidence for a fourth state with mass either 3340 or 3455 MeV. From study of the psi(3684) inclusive photon spectrum, the branching fraction for psi(3684) .-->. .gamma. chi(3415) was determined to be 7.5 +- 2.6%. Branching fraction upper limits of 1 to 4% at the 90% confidence level were obtained for monochromatic photon production above 250 MeV by psi or psi'.

The monochromatic photon from the transition psi(3684) .-->. .gamma.chi(3410) is observed in the inclusive photon spectrum from psi(3684); the branching ratio for this decay is 7 +- 3 percent. No evidence was found for a state near 2.8 GeV reached in psi(3095) decays.

Book excerpt: In an experiment at the Brookhaven National Laboratory AGS a number of radiative decays of the K/sup 0//sub L/(.pi./sup +/.pi./sup -/.gamma., e/sup +/e/sup -/.gamma. and .mu./sup +/.mu./sup -/.gamma.) were studied. The charged particles from these decays were detected in a 5000 wire proportional chamber spectrometer and the gammas were detected in a 194 element lead glass Cherenkov counter array. Preliminary results, based on approximately 25 percent of our total data sample, are as follows: The branching ratio K/sup 0//sub L/ yields .pi pi gamma.(direct)/K/sup 0//sub L/ yields all = 5.5 /sup +/- 1.0 x 10/sup -5/. One example of the previously unobserved decay K/sup 0//sub L/ yields ee.gamma. was found, yielding a branching ratio of 8.3 +- 8.3 x 10/sup -6/. No examples of the decays K/sup 0//sub L/ yields .mu mu gamma., ee.pi./sup 0/, and Z/sup +/.mu mu pi./sup 0/ were found, yielding improved upper limits of K/sup 0//sub L/ yields .mu mu gamma./K/sup 0//sub L/ yields all

These studies were performed using a sample of 1.8 x 106 produced psi''s collected by the Crystal Ball detector at the SPEAR electron-positron storage ring. The branching ratios of the chi0, chi2, and eta'/sub c/ to two photons have been measured to be (4.5 +- 2.2 +- 2.0) x 10−4, (9.5 +- 2.9 +- 4.5) x 10−4 (first errors statistical, second systematic), and 1 x 10−2 (90% C.L.). The signal from the decay chain psi' .--. .gamma.chi0, chi0 .-->. .pi.°.pi.° has been observed with essentially no background. Using the observed line shape of the radiative photon in this reaction, the full width of the psi0 has been found to be 8.8 +- 1.3 +- 1.5 MeV/c2. In addition, the branching ratios of the chi0 and chi2 to .pi.°.pi.° have been measured to be (3.5 +- 0.3 +- 1.2) x 10−3 and (1.2 +- 0.2 +- 0.4) x 10−3; the branching ratios of the chi0 and chi2 to eta eta have been measured to be (2.8 +- 0.9 +- 1.3) x 10−3 and (8.4 +- 4.2 +- 4.0) x 10−4. The decays of the psi' to four non-charmonium states have been investigated. The branching ratios and upper limits of these decays have been normalized to the branching ratios of the corresponding decays from the J/psi which have been measured using a sample of 2.2 x 106 produced J/psi's collected by the Crystal Ball detector. The ratios of the psi' branching ratios to the J/psi branching ratios for the final states .gamma.eta, .gamma.eta', .gamma.theta, and .gamma.f have been measured to be

Book excerpt: ABSTRACT: We conducted a new search for the radiative decay of Upsilon(1S) to the pseudoscalar mesons eta and eta-prime in (21.2"0.2) x 106 Upsilon(1S) decays collected with the CLEO III detector operation at the Cornell Electron Strorage Ring (CESR). The eta meson was reconstructed in the three modes eta to gamma gamma, eta to pipi−pi0 or eta to pi0 pi0 pi0. The eta-prime meson was reconstructed in the mode eta-prime to pi pi− eta with eta decaying through any of the above three modes; and also eta-prime to gamma rho0, where rho0 to pi+ pi−-. The first six of these decay chains were searched for in the previous CLEO II analysis on this subject, which used a data sample 14.6 times smaller. Five of the seven submodes were virtually background free. We found no signal events in four of them. The only exception was Upsilon(1S) to gamma eta-prime; eta to pi+ pi− pi0 where we observed two good signal candidates. The other two submodes (eta to gamma gamma and eta-prime to gamma rho) are background limited, and showed no excess of events in the signal region. We combined the results from different channels and obtained 90% confidence level (C.L.) upper limits branching fraction(Upsilon(1S) to gamma eta)
