Book excerpt: Part I: This work is concerned with three possible experiments to determine the ratio A = ||^|, the ratio of the axial vector and polar vector(gv) coupling constants that govern the weak interactions. These experiments are i) to measure the proton asymmetry in neutron beta decay, ii) to measure the integrated one-dimensional proton spectrum and iii) to measure the integrated three dimensional proton spectrum.The experimental apparatus was built, refined and tested as far as laboratory conditions allowed.The proton asymmetry function in neutron beta decay was calculated in detail, including small terms such as the effects of radiative corrections and the effects of weak magnetism terms, a calculation not available in the literature.The experiment to measure the one-dimensional proton spectrum was modelled in detail and investigated using Monte-Carlo simulations. These simulations took account of both the precise form of the electric and magnetic fields within the Penning Trap region and the effects of the magnetic mirror effect and were accurate enouth to lead to the observation of a systematic error in the analysis of the neutron lifetime work, relating to the determination of the source volume, which analysis is corrected here.Part II: The (K+,K+n) and (K+}K+np) reactions on C, N, O nuclei at incident energies 200 MeV and 130 MeV respectively, were studied using nuclear photoemulsion techniques. Integral cross sections and various differential characteristics were obtained and analysed , and the results were compared with results obtained with the other methods. _A non-local separable KN potential with Yamaguchi-type form factors was constructed. Inelastic channels were included by modifying the Green's function. The potential can be used in calculating cross-sections of reactions induced by antikaons.
