Book Synopsis The Constant Rabbit by : Jasper Fforde
Download or read book The Constant Rabbit written by Jasper Fforde and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2020-09-29 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Reads like a crazed cross between Watership Down and Nineteen Eighty-Four." --The Guardian "Every book of Fforde's seems to be a cause for celebration." -- Charles Yu, The New York Times Book Review on Early Riser A new stand-alone novel from the New York Times bestselling author of Early Riser and the Thursday Next series England, 2022. There are 1.2 million human-size rabbits living in the UK. They wear clothes and can walk, talk and drive cars, the result of an inexplicable Spontaneous Anthropomorphizing Event fifty-five years earlier. A family of rabbits is about to move into Much Hemlock, a cozy little village in Middle England where life revolves around summer fetes, jam making, gossipy corner stores, and the oh-so-important Spick & Span awards for the best-kept village. No sooner have the rabbits arrived than the villagers decide they must depart, citing their propensity to burrow and breed, and their shameless levels of veganism. But Mrs Constance Rabbit is made of sterner stuff, and she and her family decide they are to stay. Unusually, their neighbors--longtime resident Peter Knox and his daughter, Pippa--decide to stand with them . . . and soon discover that you can be a friend to rabbits or to humans, but not both. With a blossoming romance, acute cultural differences, enforced rehoming to a MegaWarren in Wales and the full power of the ruling United Kingdom Anti-Rabbit Party against them, Peter and Pippa are about to question everything they had ever thought about their friends, their nation, and their species. An inimitable blend of satire, fantasy and thriller, The Constant Rabbit is the latest dazzlingly original foray into Jasper Fforde's ever-astonishing creative genius.
Book Synopsis The Key to Creativity by : Hilde Østby
Download or read book The Key to Creativity written by Hilde Østby and published by Greystone Books Ltd. This book was released on 2023-04-11 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Readers of Stolen Focus and Quiet will appreciate this wide-ranging and passionate investigation into creativity: Why and when it strikes us, and how to transform workplaces, classrooms, and societies for creativity to flourish. After a cycling crash leaves her head spinning, journalist Hilde Østby finds herself suddenly bursting with creative energy—which makes her wonder: What’s the secret to human creativity? Where do ideas come from? And most importantly: in a society that praises productivity and pace, how can we nurture, rather than suppress, our creative impulses? Using Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland as her inspiration, Østby takes readers tumbling down the rabbit hole of ideas. The Key to Creativity features: Interviews with powerhouse creatives—like journalist Michael Pollan, novelist Maja Lunde, and artist Tracey Emin—and decodings of their creative regimens. The cultural history and science behind our “aha” moments, our inner critics, and our idle thoughts. Information on how to foster your creative potential: Østby shares how we can cultivate more creativity in our lives through prioritizing daydreaming and valuing productivity less. With the charm of Alice exploring Wonderland and meeting its curious inhabitants, The Key to Creativity invites us to imagine a world where daydreaming is encouraged and even our strangest ideas have value.
Book Synopsis Church, Science, and a Rabbit by : Charles Sigman Osl
Download or read book Church, Science, and a Rabbit written by Charles Sigman Osl and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2009-07 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last fifteen years of my ministry I have seen both the positives and negatives of technology. For the most part technology has made lives better, but when technology drives humanity and when science defines the human condition, problems arise. Science has the potential for destroying myth. Myth is the thread that holds the human tapestry or narrative together. One role the Church must take on is to keep science and technology in their proper place by saying, "No," when the two overstep their limitations. Currently, there are no checks and balances placed upon science. Science is accountable to no one but itself. Humans are imperfect, and thus, science is imperfect. In this way, the Church brings meaning and purpose to religion, while still affirming science's role of making people's physical lives better. Both science and religion need a level of utilitarian mission, purpose, and vision. The Church and science must be in a friendly, adversarial relationship. Conflict is good and healthy because from out of conflict comes great creativity. Adversity spawns growth. When science and religion are in healthy, amiable conflict, creativity emerges-just as the butterfly struggles to emerge from the cocoon.

Book Synopsis The Holy Surprise of Right Now by : Samuel Hazo
Download or read book The Holy Surprise of Right Now written by Samuel Hazo and published by University of Arkansas Press. This book was released on 1996-01-01 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "For forty years, Samuel Hazo has written a poetry of the world exactly as he sees it: a place where struggles between family members, friends, and nations are endured and sometimes settled by calm assurance; where art and the pursuit of one's talents require a special kind of bravery; where change - the birth of a child, the passing of friends, the death of heroes - is a constant to be solemnly honored and often celebrated." "From his first book, through the National Book Award finalist Once for the Last Bandit, to his newest poems, Hazo's themes have remained consistent. With each collection he wonders anew at the persistence of mortality in the midst of vibrant living and of love in all our relations. In this lithe, metrical lines, he writes with equal ease of Geneva, Switzerland, or Johnstown, Pennsylvania; of the matador Manolete in his dying moments or the innocent eyes of an eleven-year-old son; of the rewards of creating great art or the frustrations and joys of driving a Roosevelt Coupe. With The Holy Surprise of Right Now, Hazo gives his readers a powerful summation of his work to date."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. All Rights Reserved
