Although this may be the desire of many, too often in this modern world it may not be the case as, unlike in the past, we live in a more troubled time. Delivering practical solutions for realizing the close and caring relationships that we yearn for, The Quest to Safeguard Wholesome Family Life offers wisdom from an ancient philosophy of life, one that is perfectly relevant in our modern world. By concentrating on the quality of our life and our relationships with family members and others, our aspirations become more attainable. By focusing our minds on goodness, love, compassion, and forgiveness, we can develop a deeper understanding and holistic view of our intimate connection with people and nature. An emotional hygiene of trust, loyalty, respect, and sympathy can be cultivated and grow into living a life of contentment and moderation. We can thus develop a sense of concern for others' well-being more than for ourselves. Book Synopsis Strategies in Church Discipline from 1 Corinthians by : Timothy KH Chong
Download or read book Strategies in Church Discipline from 1 Corinthians written by Timothy KH Chong and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2016-08-11 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book seeks to recover the New Testament ideal of church discipline and to construct a holistic model for the Church in Asia. The Church has wrestled with the issue of discipline ever since her inception. Many of Pauls letters addressed the problems that had arisen in the communities that he had established. The thrust of church discipline in the New Testament was the formation of Christian character through the Word of God worked out in the process of discipleship through teaching, edification, admonition as well as banishing serious sin from the community. The ideal of church discipline in the New Testament is both Preventive Discipline and Punitive Discipline. As the Church became more institutionalized, there was a paradigm shift in the process of discipline. The New Testament ideal of discipline as a character formation was shifted to regulatory ordinances. This led to the development of a strict and regimented Christianity. Since then, church discipline had taken on a penitential and punitive direction. The book seeks to study Pauls management of the disciplinary problems in 1 Corinthians and then to construct a holistic model of church discipline for an Asian context.
Book Synopsis In Search of Deeper Learning by : Jal Mehta

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The best book on high school dynamics I have ever read."--Jay Mathews, Washington Post An award-winning professor and an accomplished educator take us beyond the hype of reform and inside some of America's most innovative classrooms to show what is working--and what isn't--in our schools. What would it take to transform industrial-era schools into modern organizations capable of supporting deep learning for all? Jal Mehta and Sarah Fine's quest to answer this question took them inside some of America's most innovative schools and classrooms--places where educators are rethinking both what and how students should learn. The story they tell is alternately discouraging and hopeful. Drawing on hundreds of hours of observations and interviews at thirty different schools, Mehta and Fine reveal that deeper learning is more often the exception than the rule. And yet they find pockets of powerful learning at almost every school, often in electives and extracurriculars as well as in a few mold-breaking academic courses. These spaces achieve depth, the authors argue, because they emphasize purpose and choice, cultivate community, and draw on powerful traditions of apprenticeship. These outliers suggest that it is difficult but possible for schools and classrooms to achieve the integrations that support deep learning: rigor with joy, precision with play, mastery with identity and creativity. This boldly humanistic book offers a rich account of what education can be. The first panoramic study of American public high schools since the 1980s, In Search of Deeper Learning lays out a new vision for American education--one that will set the agenda for schools of the future.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Discipline: The Canonical Buddhism of the Vinayapitaka is a penetrating analysis of a heretofore neglected, yet centrally important portion of the Pali Canon. In identifying the pivotal role of discipline in the bhikkhu quest for nibbana Professor Holt finds that Vinaya rules represent a practical implementation of the Budha's Dhamma. Specifically, adherence to this monastic code theoretically facilitates an overcoming of asavas, mental dispositions that foster attachment to the self and thus perpetuate the process of samsaric kammic retribution. The formulation of Buddhist monastic law, therefore, need not be seen as the result of casuistry; rather, it is the consequence of a conscious attempt on the part of the early Buddhist tradition to identify behavioral expressions that at once generate and reflect a calmed, detached and disciplined mental and spiritual state. The author has also examined the significance of the principal rituals of Buddhist monasticism as they are prescribed within the Vinaya text. He interprets these rites as cultic celebrations of discipline which, in turn, legitimate the Sangha's claim to be the embodiment and reservoir of the Buddha's teachings. The claim supported the Sangha's role of occupying a mediating position between the spiritual needs of the laity and the authority and the spiritual exemplar of Buddhism, the Buddha. In short, Discipline, written from the perspective of the history of religious approach, contributed significantly to the increased understanding of the dynamics of the Buddhist religion in its formulative stages.

Book Synopsis Changing Theories And Practices Of Discipline by : Roger Slee
Download or read book Changing Theories And Practices Of Discipline written by Roger Slee and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-04-03 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Behaviour problems" in our schools occupy a considerable part of the education agenda and media attention. The major thrust of the literature has been on the provision of "new classroom management approaches". Too often these "packages" are inappropriate to the specific context of the school and its pupils. There are no "quick-fix" solutions. In this book, Slee proposes a critical re-examination of the school discipline issue. In doing so, he provides an overview of policy change; an examination of the major schools of thought on student discipline; a reconsideration of the context in which young people, teachers and schools now find themselves; and practical responses for addressing all levels of discipline policy making.

Book Synopsis The Discipline of the Mountain by : Daniel Berrigan
Download or read book The Discipline of the Mountain written by Daniel Berrigan and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2007-10-01 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Discipline of the Mountain Daniel Berrigan offers ways of imagining our plight through the poetic vision of Dante's Purgatorio. There can be found a faithful vision, an alternative, a truthful image of God, of ourselves, of history. Berrigan employs free, poetic adaptation of the original--its themes, moods, discourses, encounters--with a prose commentary relating the text to political-moral issues of the present day. With its themes of lust and hatred, religious strife and ecclesiastical corruption, military power and oppression, the Purgatorio is an apt allegory of modern society. Thirteenth-century kings and princes shade into twentieth-century colonels and shahs and juntas. The Discipline of the Mountain is evocatively illustrated by Robert F. McGovern.
