Book Synopsis Quaternary Geology of St. Anthony - Blanc-Sablon Area, Newfoundland and Quebec by : D. R. Grant
Download or read book Quaternary Geology of St. Anthony - Blanc-Sablon Area, Newfoundland and Quebec written by D. R. Grant and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study was prompted by a need for data on terrain conditions, soil materials, and glacial transport, which was required for mineral exploration, for the planning of a hydroelectric transmission corridor, for bedrock mapping, for forest inventory, and for land capability studies. A secondary reason for beginning a program of surficial mapping in this part of Newfoundland was the paucity of Quaternary geological information in a key area about which early reports debated the extent of glaciation, and where airphoto reconnaissance revealed significant new glacial and marine formations.
Book Synopsis A Lichenometric Study of Holocene Rock Glaciers and Neoglacial Moraines, Frances Lake Map Area, Southeastern Yukon Territory and Northwest Territories by : Arthur S. Dyke
Download or read book A Lichenometric Study of Holocene Rock Glaciers and Neoglacial Moraines, Frances Lake Map Area, Southeastern Yukon Territory and Northwest Territories written by Arthur S. Dyke and published by Energy Mines and Resources Canada. This book was released on 1990 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Frances Lake map area of the northeastern Canadian Cordillera is crossed by northwest-southeast trending ranges of the Selwyn Mountains. Rock glaciers and neoglacial moraines were mapped during general surficial geological mapping in 1981 and selected features were studied in detail in 1983 from 6 fly camps in the northeastern part of the study area. Lichenometric ages are thought to pertain to time elapsed since stabilization of substrate, roughly corresponding to time elapsed since deposition of moraines and since initial flow of a rock glacier lobe or tread off from its parent apron. The ages of rock glaciers and moraines were assessed through lichenometry, the only dating technique that can be applied to nearly all substrates. This report discusses the lichenometric method used and presents the results from the 6 study areas as well as a regional summary and correlation.
Book Synopsis GLACIAL LANDSYSTEMS by : David J.A. Evans
Download or read book GLACIAL LANDSYSTEMS written by David J.A. Evans and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-02-04 with total page 544 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a comprehensive overview of the ever-captivating field of glaciation from the perspective of glacial landsystems. This approach models the many processes, forms and interactions that can be found in glaciated landscapes throughout the world. Landsystems models allow the glacial geologist and geomorphologist to evaluate these landscapes in relation to the dynamics of glaciation and to climate and geology. Glacial Landsystems brings together the expertise of an international range of specialists to provide an up-to-date summary of landsystems relevant to both modern and ancient glacier systems and also in the reconstruction and interpretation of former glacial environments. The models are applicable at all scales from ice sheets to small valley glaciers. This book is an essential reference for anyone embarking upon research or engineering surveys in glaciated basins and provides a wide-ranging handbook of glacial landsystem types for students of glaciation.

This book was released on 1994 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Pelly River area is rich in mineral resources including both base and precious metals. This study area is also rich in water, wildlife, forest, recreational, and scenic resources of the upper Pelly, Teslin, and Liard River systems. Future land use conflicts are likely unless careful planning is employed ... The author provides an inventory of surficial deposits of the Pelly River area, describes the processes that modify them, and details the Quaternary history of this area. This report enlarges upon the accompanying Geological Survey of the Canada maps 1790A-1793A (105F), 1794A-1797A 105G), 1819A-1822A (105K), and 1832A-1835A (105J)."--Introduction.
