Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In order to evaluate the impact of environmental and physiological stressors on the conduct of Special Operations activities and techniques to minimize the effects of these stressors, it has become essential to develop standardized measurements of Special Operations mission-related performance and to ensure that measures selected relate as directly as possible to actual operational tasks. In order to select/develop appropriate measures of performance, information was needed on critical performance abilities required for specific Special Operations activities. To obtain the required abilities information, a database was developed providing data obtained from experienced, senior operators regarding critical performance abilities necessary for fifty-six specific Special Operations activities.

This book was released on 1997 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) has identified a need for standardized measures to quantify mission-related performance when conducting research in the Special Operations community. Based on operator input, five measures of physical performance were selected to be evaluated. The five tests are 1) maximal handgrip strength and endurance, 2) maximal number of pull-ups, 3) maximal number of repetitions during a timed step test, 4) manual dexterity, and 5) shooting skills. Measures 1-4 were evaluated during various training scenarios: winter and land warfare, high speed boat and Sea, Air, Land (SEAL) Delivery Vehicle (SDV) operations, and parachuting. The shooting skills test is currently being evaluated. A total of 30 operators volunteered to participate. Baseline measurements were established on all operators. Post-operation measurements were compared to baseline to quantify changes in performance.
Book Synopsis Quantification of Special Operations Mission-Related Performance: Cognitive Measures by :
Download or read book Quantification of Special Operations Mission-Related Performance: Cognitive Measures written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 67 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In order to evaluate the impact of thermal and physical stress on mission-related performance in a quantifiable fashion, and to develop a technology to minimize the effects of such stresses, it has become important to develop standardized measures of mission-related performance. The present report presents fundamental information relating to the selection of measures to assess the impact of operational stressors on cognitive performance. The initial cognitive performance abilities presently considered and adopted for standardized measurement in thermally and physically stressful operational environments are: memory, reaction time, vigilance, calculations, logical reasoning, and learning. The six currently adopted measures of cognitive performance are matching-to-sample, complex reaction time, visual vigilance, serial addition-subtraction, logical reasoning, and repeated acquisition. The measures have been implemented in a standardized manner on portable battery-operated computers for use in both laboratory and field settings. The report provides detailed documentation for each of the measures, including computer code listings.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume constitutes the proceedings of the 11th International Conference on Augmented Cognition, AC 2017, held as part of the International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction, HCII 2017, which took place in Vancouver, BC, Canada, in July 2017. HCII 2017 received a total of 4340 submissions, of which 1228 papers were accepted for publication after a careful reviewing process. The papers thoroughly cover the entire field of Human-Computer Interaction, addressing major advances in knowledge and effective use of computers in a variety of application areas. The two volumes set of AC 2017 presents 81 papers which are organized in the following topical sections: electroencephalography and brain activity measurement, eye tracking in augmented cognition, physiological measuring and bio-sensing, machine learning in augmented cognition, cognitive load and performance, adaptive learning systems, brain-computer interfaces, human cognition and behavior in complex tasks and environments.

Book Synopsis Special Operations Mission Planning and Analysis Support System by :
Download or read book Special Operations Mission Planning and Analysis Support System written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Current mission preparation and analysis methods place an undue burden of effort on conventional and special operations forces to effectively synchronize and execute their increasingly complex operational responsibilities in a rapidly changing global environment. This project developed a tool for the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) in support of their Mission Planning, Analysis, Rehearsal, and Execution (MPARE) initiative to allow special operations forces commanders and staffs to conduct mission planning and analysis in a distributed environment, and rapidly produce dynamics synchronization matrices and scheduling products. Operations research methods provide the foundation for the analysis. The system developed in this project is called the Special Operations Mission Planning and Analysis Support System (SOMPASS). SOMPASS is simple to learn and operate, provides dynamic changes with little effort, and is universal in application. This system has the capability to execute on any hardware platform operate across any network connection, and expand easily to support additional users and requirements. This project provides not only a demonstration of a special operations oriented illustrative scenario, but also a working product that can be adapted for use in mission planning and analysis by all units.

Book Synopsis Special Operations Forces by : United States. Government Accountability Office
Download or read book Special Operations Forces written by United States. Government Accountability Office and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In fiscal year 2022, the command made about $79.6 million available for program activities and maintained over 800 service providers across 32 locations worldwide to care for special operations forces and their families. However, since January 2016, the command has not completed a program evaluation demonstrating program performance and effectiveness. GAO evaluated the extent to which the command has 1) identified program performance goals and measures and 2) collected and analyzed data to determine how well the program is achieving desired outcomes. GAO is making three recommendations, including that the command establish specific and measurable performance goals, establish performance measures that are linked to strategic goals and are clearly stated, and develop a detailed program evaluation plan to support annual program reports.
