The Roundtable consists of experts formally appointed through procedures of the National Research Council (NRC) who represent both public and private-sector perspectives and appropriate areas of substantive expertise (not organizations). From the public sector, heads of appropriate Federal agencies serve. It offers a unique, nonadversarial environment to explore ongoing rapid changes in the medical marketplace and the implications of these changes for the quality of health and health care in this nation. The Roundtable has a liaison panel focused on quality of care in managed care organizations. The Roundtable convenes nationally prominent representatives of the private and public sector (regional, state and federal), academia, patients, and the health media to analyze unfolding issues concerning quality, to hold workshops and commission papers on significant topics, and when appropriate, to produce periodic statements for the nation on quality of care matters. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Data Quality Assessment Framework shows you how to measure and monitor data quality, ensuring quality over time. You'll start with general concepts of measurement and work your way through a detailed framework of more than three dozen measurement types related to five objective dimensions of quality: completeness, timeliness, consistency, validity, and integrity. Ongoing measurement, rather than one time activities will help your organization reach a new level of data quality. This plain-language approach to measuring data can be understood by both business and IT and provides practical guidance on how to apply the DQAF within any organization enabling you to prioritize measurements and effectively report on results. Strategies for using data measurement to govern and improve the quality of data and guidelines for applying the framework within a data asset are included. You'll come away able to prioritize which measurement types to implement, knowing where to place them in a data flow and how frequently to measure. Common conceptual models for defining and storing of data quality results for purposes of trend analysis are also included as well as generic business requirements for ongoing measuring and monitoring including calculations and comparisons that make the measurements meaningful and help understand trends and detect anomalies. - Demonstrates how to leverage a technology independent data quality measurement framework for your specific business priorities and data quality challenges - Enables discussions between business and IT with a non-technical vocabulary for data quality measurement - Describes how to measure data quality on an ongoing basis with generic measurement types that can be applied to any situation

Book excerpt: This book is very useful for it is not just 'descriptive' in its nature, but 'prescriptive', too. It is descriptive in the sense that it describes the process of developing or using a metric in a problem situation, and prescriptive as it clearly prescribes how a beginner can put the theory into practice. In this globalized economy, maintaining quality of products and services has been the thrust area of interest among academicians and practitioners. Today, there are quite a good number of books and research articles available. Nevertheless, service quality measurement has always posed problems, particularly in the context of service industries due to the difficulty in the measurement of the intangibles and implied needs of the customers. The research literature is filled with articles on how to quantify the services, and there are several streams of arguments on the choice of the most ideal approach. However, the research gap lies in the answer to the question: 'Do these measurement instruments concur in their measurement outcomes or do they give different results in the same situation?' This book primarily makes an attempt to answer this question through a case study approach. Even though, there are several instruments for the measurement of service quality, the two most widely used instruments are SERVQUAL and SERVPERF metrics. Comprehensively, this book explains the systematic procedure of using both, the instruments in a service sector, and further, the procedure for conducting a statistical analysis so that one will be able to apply the same in any service sector. It then takes the reader through a series of tests in order to compare the two metrics, and to prove statistically if there is the same outcome in a problem situation. The results are sure to surprise the reader, and trigger the "research bent of mind" to undertake a similar study of such metrics and gain mastery over performing an independent research with very minimal guidance from a professional gu

Book excerpt: 1 Oxford and Webster's dictionaries ,2 give trans-Atlantic agreement in English with a common definition for 'Quality' as 'degree of excellence'. Compared with the many words taken up by other authors' definitions, this is remarkably brief and no doubt unsatisfactory to many people. Yet if 'degree' means a stage in an ascending or descending series, in intensity or in amount, then measurement is by definition explicitly required if terms such as 'quality level', 'good quality', 'high quality' etc. are to have any real meaning. Using measurement is inherent in the methods of all the major writers on the achievement of business improvement through quality. Results from measurements allow improvement by using tools commonly grouped under the heading Statistical Process Control (SPC). Results also form part of the judging criteria of Total Quality Management (TQM) models such as the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in the USA and the more recent European Quality Award. Future revisions of the ISO 9000 series of quality management system standards will specifically require measure ment of defects. However, it is not easy for quality professionals or line managers to find examples of what they should measure and how to do it in their own particular functions in their own particular industries; case st\}dies always seem to refer to others.

Book excerpt: Since the first international conference on urban air quality, held at the University ofHertfordshire in 1996, significant advances have taken place in the field of urban air pollution. In addition to the scientific advances in the measurement, modelling and management of urban air quality, significant progress has been achieved in relation to the establishment of major frameworks to ensure a more effective mechanism for international collaboration. Two such frameworks are SATURN (Studying Atmospheric Pollution in Urban Areas) and TRAPOS (Optimisation of Modelling Methods for Traffic Pollution in Streets). In response to such advances, the second international conference was held at the Technical University of Madrid in March 1999 with active participation of SATURN and TRAPOS investigators. The organisation of the conference was headed by the Institute of Physics in collaboration with the Technical University of Madrid and the University of Hertfordshire. The support of IUAPPA and AWMA ensured a truly worldwide promotion and participation. The meeting attracted 140 scientists from 26 different countries establishing it as a major forum for exchanging and discussing the latest research fmdings in this field.

Book excerpt: POWER QUALITY MEASUREMENT AND ANALYSIS USING HIGHER-ORDER STATISTICS Help protect your network with this important reference work on cyber security Power quality (PQ) in electrotechnical systems refers to a set of characteristics related to the movement of energy and the delivery of voltage to consumers in the highest standard. As electricity networks change and adapt to new technologies and concepts of energy within a future Smart Grid, it has become clear that standardized methods by which stability and accuracy of electrical service along a network are currently measured are no longer enough to solve inherent issues in service and ensure established requirements are met. Power Quality Measurement and Analysis using Higher-Order Statistics reflects the latest information related to PQ (Power Quality) analysis solutions, particularly that related to the implementation of new quality indices in the domain of higher-order statistics (HOS). The authors—noted experts on the topic—carefully address the detection of PQ problems from two perspectives: the detection of specific events that occur on networks in isolation and continuous monitoring detection. In doing so, the authors demonstrate the use of HOS in current waveform models, enabling the characterization of different power circuit topologies and loads. This book thereby expertly explores the benefits of using HOS, bridging the gap between signal processing and power, and building a better understanding for readers. Power Quality Measurement and Analysis using Higher-Order Statistics readers will also find: A unique methodology for PQ analysis through its combination of HOS and PQ monitoring A proposal for new measurement solutions that can be easily implemented into modern instrumentation The detection of PQ problems from multiple perspectives The use of HOS in current waveform models, which enables the characterization of different power circuit topologies and loads Pitched at a specialized level, Power Quality Measurement and Analysis is an essential reference for researchers, academics, and industry insiders, as well as advanced students in this field.

The knowledge of this subject is essential for all persons irrespective of the branch of engineering. For engineering purposes, the study is restricted to the measurement of lengths, angles and the quantities which are expressed in linear and angular terms. This book gives information about various instruments used for linear as well as angular measurements and corresponding errors. This book also includes concepts of quality, quality control, different tools and techniques for quality control, total quality management and various latest methods of quality control. Our hope is that this book, through its careful explanations of concepts, examples and figures bridges the gap between knowledge and proper application of that knowledge.
