Book Synopsis Achieving Competitive Advantage through Quality Management by : Marta Peris-Ortiz
Download or read book Achieving Competitive Advantage through Quality Management written by Marta Peris-Ortiz and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-06-26 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the ways in which quality management methods, tools, and practices help improve an organization’s performance and achieve sustainable competitive advantages. This volume includes quality techniques and tools such as the EFQM Model, SERVPERF model, E-S-Qual scale and the ISO 9001 certification and provide a wide variety of empirical studies in different economic sectors. In the current economic environment, characterized by economic turmoil and fierce competition, quality management has become a key strategy for organizations to overcome today’s challenges. Organizations benefits from implementing quality management systems by following two approaches. First, they implement quality practices aimed at ensuring customer satisfaction by considering consumer expectations and establishing strategies accordingly. Second, organizations improve processes by establishing efficient and effective process management systems that improve productivity, lower costs, reduce unnecessary expenses, eliminate all non-value added activities, and ultimately maximize excellence and customer satisfaction. Quality management thereby provides tools, techniques, and methods for continuous process improvement in both the professional and academic worlds, which, when implemented by organizations in times of crisis, enable more effective administration of activities undertaken by managers. Containing contributions from various academics and scholars, this new book provides cutting edge research, methods and techniques providing a reference manual for academics, scholars, practitioners and policy-makers.

Book Synopsis Organizational Change and Global Standardization by : David M. Boje
Download or read book Organizational Change and Global Standardization written by David M. Boje and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-05-15 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organizational Change and Global Standardization: Solutions to Standards and Norms Overwhelming Organizations takes an organizational change approach to the overflow of standards and norms, looking at how to deal effectively and ethically with four kinds of standards and norms businesses face when they go global: (1) accounting & finance (2) international & world trade,(3) social and (4) safety & quality & environment. It is part of a larger problem faced by not only business, but every sort of organization - how to live with the epidemic of standards and norms, often in conflict, many just unnecessary, and a few that are quite helpful and important. There are good reasons to have International Standards Organization (ISO), International Labor Organization (ILO), World Trade Organization (WTO), North Atlantic Treaty Association (NAFTA), International accounting Standards Boards (IASB), International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)), and many more standard-setting organizations issuing, auditing, proposing codes of ethics, and certifying standards and norms. However, there are important, poorly understood organizational change consequences to the contagion of standards and norms. This volume brings together a unique group of authors who are working on a pragmatic way for organizations to deal with an overflow of standards and norms that are often at heads, ambiguous, or simply created to produce more work for a burgeoning standards setting industry. The aim of Organizational Change and Global Standardization is to stimulate a critical analysis within the framework of analytical and pragmatic approach to an overwhelming bureaucratization of the managed and organized global activities.
Book Synopsis The Report: Algeria 2013 by : Oxford Business Group
Download or read book The Report: Algeria 2013 written by Oxford Business Group and published by Oxford Business Group. This book was released on 2013-11-27 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Considerable oil and gas revenues have provided the Algerian government with sufficient funds to embark on generous public spending programmes in nearly all sectors, leading to improvements in many of the country’s headline indicators. Although hydrocarbons are likely to remain the backbone of the economy for the foreseeable future, with significant state involvement, efforts are being made to diversify the economy and support private sector growth. Since the country gained independence more than 50 years ago, Algeria’s economy has evolved significantly, with oil and gas production reinforcing high levels of state spending. Algeria has been following something of a contrary approach to much of the rest of the world over the past few years. Even as the global economy has struggled, Algeria has continued to sail along fairly smoothly. It has not seen the vertiginous growth rates of emerging markets elsewhere in the Middle East and Africa, but it has seen a steady increase in activity and, through prudential management, has built up its financial reserves to great effect. While the state maintains a heavy presence in the market, the 38m-person country’s fundamentals are very robust, and the capital expenditures and policy reforms being taken to help address its weaknesses offer significant scope for even higher growth in the years to come.

Book Synopsis Managing and Interpreting D-Day's Sites of Memory by : Geoffrey Bird
Download or read book Managing and Interpreting D-Day's Sites of Memory written by Geoffrey Bird and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-02 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: More than seventy years following the D-Day Landings of 6 June 1944, Normandy's war heritage continues to intrigue visitors and researchers. Receiving well over two million visitors a year, the Normandy landscape of war is among the most visited cultural sites in France. This book explores the significant role that heritage and tourism play in the present day with regard to educating the public as well as commemorating those who fought. The book examines the perspectives, experiences and insights of those who work in the field of war heritage in the region of Normandy where the D-Day landings and the Battle of Normandy occurred. In this volume practitioner authors represent a range of interrelated roles and responsibilities. These perspectives include national and regional governments and coordinating agencies involved in policy, planning and implementation; war cemetery commissions; managers who oversee particular museums and sites; and individual battlefield tour guides whose vocation is to research and interpret sites of memory. Often interviewed as key informants for scholarly articles, the day-to-day observations, experiences and management decisions of these guardians of remembrance provide valuable insight into a range of issues and approaches that inform the meaning of tourism, remembrance and war heritage as well as implications for the management of war sites elsewhere. Complementing the Normandy practitioner offerings, more scholarly investigations provide an opportunity to compare and debate what is happening in the management and interpretation at other World War II related sites of war memory, such as at Pearl Harbor, Okinawa and Portsmouth, UK. This innovative volume will be of interest to those interested in remembrance tourism, war heritage, dark tourism, battlefield tourism, commemoration, D-Day and World War II.
