On the basis of a wide reading of both English and continental writings, the author challenges the prevailing view that there was essentially a 'Calvinist' consensus in the Elizabethan and Jacobean Church, and stresses instead an indigenous latitudinarianism of doctrine against which a concerted campaign was conducted in the last decade of the sixteenth century in the controversies which led to the Lambeth Articles. Diese genetischen Veränderungen kommen zustande durch mutagen wirkende Substanzen und Zellgifte, die die DNA der Zelle schädigen. Dabei spielt die Ernährung eine bedeutende Rolle, wobei es sowohl Risiko- als auch Schutzfaktoren gibt, die teilweise je nach Krebsart variieren. Vor dem Hintergrund der Entstehungsphasen der Zellwucherung wird das Ernährungsverhalten vor, während und nach einer Krebserkrankung näher beleuchtet. Anhand von epidemiologischen Migrationsstudien lässt sich eindrucksvoll der Zusammenhang zwischen der Krebserkrankungsrate und den unterschiedlichen Ernährungsgewohnheiten der jeweiligen Populationen verdeutlichen. Ein Beispiel dafür ist, dass ein für Japaner übliches niedriges Kolonkarzinomrisiko bei einer Emigration in die USA auf die dort übliche Prävalenzrate steigt. Im Gegensatz dazu sinkt die bei Japanern hohe Inzidenz des Magenkarzinoms ab. Das heißt: Ernährung und Umweltfaktoren spielen bei Krebserkrankungen eine wichtige Rolle. Nach Schätzungen sind (je nach Krebstyp) 10-70% der Erkrankungsfälle durch die Ernährung beeinflusst. Somit kann durch richtige Ernährung und einen gesunden Lebensstil das Risiko einer Erkrankung gesenkt werden (Biesalski et al).

Although Puritan's emphasis on spiritual equality had the opportunity to radically alter gender roles, in daily practice laymen censured men and women differently – punishing men for public behavior that threatened the peace of their communities, and women for private sins that allegedly revealed their spiritual corruption. In order to retain their public masculine identity, men altered the original mission of Puritanism, infusing gender into the construction of religious ideas about public service, the creation of the individual, and the gendering of separate spheres. With these practices, Puritans transformed their 'errand into the wilderness' and the normative Puritan became female.
