Download or read book The Viruses written by F Burnet and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 461 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Viruses: Biochemical, Biological, and Biophysical Properties, Volume 2: Plant and Bacterial Viruses deals with the biochemistry, biology, and biophysics of plant viruses. The viruses considered are tobacco and turnip yellow mosaic viruses; tobacco ringspot virus; potato virus X; and bacterial viruses, such as lysogenic bacteria and phages. This volume is organized into 10 chapters and begins with a discussion of the tobacco mosaic virus and other plant viruses, emphasizing the process of infection and synthesis and general features of the host-virus system. The next chapters focus on the purification and protein components of plant viruses; the chemical correlates of biological variability in viruses; and biological cycles of plant viruses in insect vectors. This book describes the bacteriophage, which is considered as a model virus in comparison with typical microorganisms and cellular organelles. It also introduces the reader to the kinetics of phage reproduction; the intracellular multiplication of bacterial viruses; and the process of lysogeny in bacteria. The book concludes with a chapter on irradiation of phage with ultraviolet light, decay of incorporated radiophosphorus (""suicide""), and ionizing radiation (usually X-rays). Biologists, botanists, biochemists, biophysicists, and microbial physiologists will find this book a rich source of information on plant and bacterial viruses.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has been ten years since the publication of the third edition of this seminal text on plant virology, during which there has been an explosion of conceptual and factual advances. The fourth edition updates and revises many details of the previous editon, while retaining the important older results that constitute the field's conceptual foundation. Key features of the fourth edition include: * Thumbnail sketches of each genera and family groups * Genome maps of all genera for which they are known * Genetic engineered resistance strategies for virus disease control * Latest understanding of virus interactions with plants, including gene silencing * Interactions between viruses and insect, fungal, and nematode vectors * New plate section containing over 50 full-color illustrations.

Book Synopsis A Textbook of Plant Virus Diseases by : Kenneth M. Smith
Download or read book A Textbook of Plant Virus Diseases written by Kenneth M. Smith and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 695 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Textbook of Plant Virus Diseases deals with a discussion of different plant viruses, their properties, and the corresponding diseases these viruses cause. It includes a list of host plants of every virus arranged alphabetically. The book discusses the new types of disease vectors, such as root-infesting fungi, nematode worms, mites, and insects that are both biting and sucking. It also discusses the development of new techniques in electron microscopy that is used to characterize in detail the causal viruses of a number of plant virus diseases. Furthermore, it presents the development of plant virus serology, as well as the improved methods of virus isolation that allow the classification of viruses into related groups. The book includes a Bibliography and an Index of Synonyms that can be used in identifying given virus name. In addition, cross-references are included for searching a particular virus under the alternative names. This book will be invaluable to ecologists, environmentalists, agriculturalists, and other scientists interested in plant viruses. Biology students will also find this reference helpful.
Book Synopsis History of Plant Pathology by : S.G. Borkar
Download or read book History of Plant Pathology written by S.G. Borkar and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-11-13 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book History of plant pathology depicts the historical events, discoveries and advancement made in the subject of plant pathology from the ancient era to till date and these are arranged into different eras viz. ancient era, medieval era, pre-modern era, modern era and present era which are useful to understand the development made on the subject of plant pathology and further scope of development and advancement in the subject. The major contributions made by pioneer workers in plant pathology around the world during these eras which had led the foundation for different branches of plant pathology are also given in the book. Besides the significant contribution made in each era for the developments of this subject, the book has additional chapters on the historical epidemics of important plant diseases around the world and its impact on human civilisations, and the historical crop yield losses due to plant diseases. The book also includes different Plant pathological societies and their development around the world to further strengthen the subject of plant pathology. Thus the book History of Plant Pathology is made interesting and of in-depth understanding to know the subject of plant pathology and further scope on the subject.
