Book Synopsis Propaganda and Information Warfare in the Twenty-First Century by : Scot Macdonald
Download or read book Propaganda and Information Warfare in the Twenty-First Century written by Scot Macdonald and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2006-12-05 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book to analyze how the technology to alter images and rapidly distribute them can be used for propaganda and to support deception operations. In the past, propagandists and those seeking to conduct deception operations used crude methods to alter images of real people, events and objects, which could usually be detected relatively easily. Today, however, computers allow propagandists to create any imaginable image, still or moving, with appropriate accompanying audio. Furthermore, it is becoming extremely difficult to detect that an image has been manipulated, and the Internet, television and global media make it possible to disseminate altered images around the world almost instantaneously. Given that the United States is the sole superpower, few, if any, adversaries will attempt to fight the US military conventionally on the battlefield. Therefore, adversaries will use propaganda and deception, especially altered images, in an attempt to level the battlefield or to win a war against the United States without even having to fight militarily. Propaganda and Information Warfare in the 21st Century will be of great interest to students of information war, propaganda, public diplomacy and security studies in general.

Book Synopsis Psychological Warfare Against Nazi Germany by : Daniel Lerner
Download or read book Psychological Warfare Against Nazi Germany written by Daniel Lerner and published by Mit Press. This book was released on 1949 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This first full analysis and description of psychological warfare conducted by the United States and British armies against Germany was originally published in 1949. It has since become a standard reference on World War II propaganda. Its appearance in paperback provides an opportunity for a clear appraisal of this unique campaign and of how it defined the ancient and recurrent problems of psychological warfare to suit the needs of the moment. There are chapters on policy, personnel, media, methods of operation, and effectiveness, as well as reproductions of typical propaganda leaflets, charts, and newspapers used against the Germans. For those who still debate the effects of the Allied "unconditional surrender" policy on the German people, Dr. Lerner offers discussion from a propagandist's point of view. The book also contains an essay from the British side by Richard H. S. Crossman. In a new introduction to the book, the author remarks on the importance of the Sykewar campaign for modern warfare, while William E. Griffith summarizes developments in the use of propaganda since World War II -- particularly regarding Cold War policies that have necessitated a shift in the focus of psychological warfare from the masses to the elites.
Book Synopsis Propaganda and Psychological Warfare by : Terence H. Qualter
Download or read book Propaganda and Psychological Warfare written by Terence H. Qualter and published by Pickle Partners Publishing. This book was released on 2020-03-05 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There have always been propagandists, some extremely skilled, but the continuing, institutionalized, large-scale attempt at mass political persuasion is a modern phenomenon, not fully developed before the First World War. The study of propaganda is even more recent for, apart from a few pioneering works at the turn of the present century, very little was written before 1930. Professor Qualter discusses the historical development and use, up to and including the Cold War era, of the deliberate attempts by political groups to use propaganda to “form, control, or alter the attitudes of other groups.”

Book excerpt: During World War II, the UK government created the Central Office of Information to act as the country s marketing and communications agency. In these desperate times, the Office produced steady streams of propaganda for the home front, for the colonies and for dissemination through occupied countries. In addition to patriotic material encouraging Britons to maintain a stiff upper lip, thousands of postcards, leaflets, posters, booklets and other promotional materials were dropped from aircraft over occupied countries in World War II. In 2000, the master set of copies was deposited with the British Library, making an enormous collection of great social and historical significance available to the public for the first time."

Book Synopsis The Propaganda Warriors by : Daniel Uziel
Download or read book The Propaganda Warriors written by Daniel Uziel and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2008 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has been generally assumed that the driving force behind German propaganda in World War Two was the Propaganda Ministry headed by Josef Goebbels, or the initiatives of various Nazi party organizations. There has been little research on the specific role of the Wehrmacht propaganda machine in this connection, even though it was the source for the bulk of German wartime propaganda material. This book deals with the history of the propaganda troops of the Wehrmacht, created shortly before WWII as a result of lessons learned concerning the importance of psychological warfare during WWI. This unique branch of service proved to be indispensable to the German propaganda effort during WWII. The products of its Propaganda Companies - better known as «PK», a term that became synonymous with high-quality war reporting in Germany - formed a crucial and popular part of wartime propaganda. The military propaganda organization worked closely with Goebbels's Propaganda Ministry and their cooperation contributed to the success of this young service. The veterans of the propaganda troops and their wartime and postwar products continued to influence the image of the Wehrmacht and WWII long after the war.
