Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Practical and authoritative, this book is a comprehensive manual of operations for using psychics in criminal investigations. The authors base the material on several decades of personal experience and on other first-person accounts from law enforcement personnel. After establishing the need for such an operations manual, the text presents a short history of psychic criminology, outlines the different types of psychic ability pertinent to the investigator, then reviews the evidence and theories for paranormal phenomena. It then details the identification, recruitment, testing and use of psychics, with close coverage afforded methods and procedures for efficient and successful investigative work with psychics. The important role of extrasensory perception in the everyday life of the investigator also is examined. Throughout the book, the authors intersperse summaries of actual cases involving psychics to illustrate and support the topics under discussion. Following the text is a sample Intuitive Investigation Report Form useful in psychic criminology, a glossary of parapsychological terms, and a bibliography of pertinent readings. This second edition has been edited and rewritten extensively with much new and significant material added, including a section on remote viewing, a new chapter of documented case histories, and a cogent critique of the critics of paranormal functioning. The primary purpose of this second edition is the same as the first: to promote the professional use of psychics as investigative aides in criminal investigations.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Psychological Investigations" lets readers listen in on one of the most exciting developments in psychology today as it is unfolding. With the current trend in therapy reflecting a movement away from traditional psychology and towards more postmodern psychologies, social therapy, a psychotherapeutic approach developed by Fred Newman, emerges as a qualitatively new way of doing therapy. Social therapy blends philosophy, the arts, and political concerns into a group approach that focuses on improved social functioning. "Psychological" "Investigations" provides insight into the revolutionary development of social therapy--an improvisational, investigatory, development-focused method of treatment. Featuring dialogues drawn from transcripts of teaching and supervisory sessions between Newman and therapists, the book presents a comprehensive guide to the core philosophical and political issues of social therapy and the social therapeutic group process. Instead of introspection and insight--traditional means to self-realization--Newman and social therapy encourages activity, involvement and commitment to causes larger than the individual ego.

Arthur Hill, having been more or less concerned in various remarkable experiences, thinks it desirable to publish them, and at the same time to discuss briefly the general subject from a reasonable point of view and in the light of a considerable knowledge of what has been done by others. He has asked me to introduce his little book to the Public; and accordingly I have pleasure in testifying to the careful and responsible truthfulness which characterises his presentation, and to the unemotional habit of mind with which he regards these phenomena. It requires a good deal of boldness to insist on affirming, in the name of positive science, the POSSIBILITY of these phenomena (wrongly styled supernatural), and to constitute one's self the champion of a cause apparently ridiculous, absurd, and dangerous, knowing, at the same time, that the avowed adherents of said cause have little standing in science, and that even its eminent partisans only venture to speak of their approval of it with bated breath. However, since the matter has just been treated momentarily in fugitive writings by a group of journalists whose exacting labors wholly forbid a study of the psychic and physical forces; and since, of all this multitude of writers, the greater part have only heaped error upon error, puerility upon extravagance; and since it appears from every page they have written (I hope they will pardon me) that not only are they ignorant of the very a, b, c of the subject they have so fantastically treated, but their opinions upon this class of facts rest upon no basis whatever,—therefore I have thought it would serve a purpose if I should leave, as a souvenir of the long wrangle, a piece of writing better based and buttressed than the lucubrations of the above-mentioned gentlemen. As a lover of truth, I am willing to face a thousand reproaches. Be it distinctly understood that I do not for a moment deem my judgment superior to that of my confrères, some of whom are in other respects highly gifted. The simple fact is that they are not familiar with this subject, but are straying in it at random, wandering through a strange region. They misunderstand the very terminology, and imagine that facts long ago well authenticated are impossible. By way of contrast, the writer of these lines will state that for several years he has been engaged in discussions and experiments upon the subject. (I am not speaking of historical studies.) "Moreover, although the old saw would have us believe that 'it is not always desirable to state the truth,' yet, to speak frankly, I am so indignant at the overweening presumption of certain polemical opponents, and at the gall they have injected into the debate, that I do not hesitate to rise and point out to the deceived public that, without a single exception, all the arguments brought up by these writers, and upon which they have boldly planted their banner of victory, prove absolutely nothing, NOTHING, against the possible truth of the things which they, in the fury of their denial, have so perverted. Such a snarl of opinions must be analyzed. In brief, the true must be disentangled from the false. Veritas, veritas!"

Results "I, at least, will shun the weakness of philosophising beyond my depth. ... What is the use of pretending to assurances we have not, respecting the other life? ... If there is a wish for immortality, and no evidence, why not say just that? If there are conflicting evidences, why not state them? If there is not ground for a candid thinker to make up his mind, yea or nay - why not suspend the judgment? I weary of these dogmatisers, I tire of these hacks of routine, who deny the dogmas. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Serial killers like Seattle's Ted Bundy, Maryland's Beltway Sniper, Atlanta's Wayne Williams, or England's Peter Sutcliffe usually outsmart the task forces on their trail for long periods of time. Keppel and Birnes take readers inside the operations of serial killer task forces to learn why. What is the underlying psychology of a serial killer and why this defeats task force investigations? This is the first book of its kind that combines state-of-the-art psychological assessment experience with the expertise of a homicide investigator who has tracked some of this country's most notorious serial killers. The author also brings to the book hands-on best practices gleaned from the experience of other task forces. Readers, both professionals and students, will benefit from the comprehensive and critical case reviews, the analysis of what went wrong, what went right, and the after-action recommendations of evaluators in the US, UK, and Canada. The book covers: * The nature of the psychology of a serial killer * How crime assessment profiling reveals that psychology * Why psychological profiles fail * How serial killer task forces defeat themselves * How the media can, and usually does, undermine the task force operation * The big secret of all serial killer investigations: police already have the killer's name * The best practices for catching a serial killer* Comprehensive case reviews of some of the US's and UK's most baffling serial killer cases* A list of best practices for serial killer task force investigators* Recommendations for how to manage comprehensive files and computer records* Practical advice on how to manage the media: what to say and not to say* Insight into what a serial killer might be thinking and doing to stay away from police* Recommendations for setting up and administering long-term investigations* Practical tips on how to maintain a task force's psychological edge and avoid defeatism
