Book Synopsis Dark Pool of Light, Volume Three by : Richard Grossinger
Download or read book Dark Pool of Light, Volume Three written by Richard Grossinger and published by North Atlantic Books. This book was released on 2012-12-18 with total page 585 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In books like Embyogenesis and Embryos, Galaxies, and Sentient Beings, author Richard Grossinger brought together the subjects of biological embryology and the esoteric process of human consciousness becoming embodied ("The embryo is the universe writing itself on its own body"). In Dark Pool of Light, his three-volume series of books discussing the nature of reality and consciousness, Grossinger weaves neuroscience-based behaviorism and the phenomenology of "being" and reality together with psychological and psychospiritual views of "that single thing which is most difficult to understand or vindicate: our own existence." In 2008, Grossinger began studying with noted psychic teacher John Friedlander, who helped him refine his vision of cerebral and somatic awareness to still-subtler levels. "Dark Pool of Light began unnamed in the journals of my psychic work with John Friedlander," says Grossinger, "not so much a record of actual practices as insights from them and extensions out of them." This expansive inquiry into the nature of consciousness ends with this third volume in the series, The Crisis and Future of Consciousness. Grossinger addresses the perennial question of evil and shares the author's hopes and fears for the future of humanity. While wisdom gleaned from such seemingly disparate sources as science, philosophy, religion, and spirituality might appear "very, very different things," Grossinger nevertheless finds their meeting place in subjective, lived experience.

Book Synopsis Mors Britannica by : Douglas James Davies
Download or read book Mors Britannica written by Douglas James Davies and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2015 with total page 437 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A people's lifestyle is one thing, their death-style another. The proximity or distance between such styles says much about a society, not least in Britain today. Mors Britannica takes up this style-issue in a society where cultural changes involve distinctions between traditional religion, secularization, and emergent forms of spirituality, all of which involve emotions, where fear, longing, and a sense of loss rise in waves when death marks the root embodiment of our humanity. These world-orientations, evident in older and newer ritual practices, engage death in the hope and desire that love, relationships, community, and human identity be not rendered meaningless. Yet both emotions and ritual have an uneasiness to them because "death" is a slippery topic as the twenty-first century gets under way in Britain. In this work, Douglas J. Davies draws from a largely anthropological-sociological perspective, with consideration of history, literature, philosophy, psychology, and theology, to provide a window into British life and insights into the foundation links between individuals and society, across the spectrum of traditionally religious views through to humanist and secular alternatives. He considers memorial sites (from churchyards to roadside memorials); forms of corporeal disposal (from cremation to composting); and death rites in a range of religious and secular traditions.

Download or read book Cyclopean written by Richard Leviton and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2020-12-20 with total page 1000 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A TEAM OF GEOMANCERS PROBE MEGALITHIC SITES FOR THE TRUE STORY OF THE GIANTS AND CYCLOPES OF MYTH AND THEIR RELEVANCE FOR TODAY Seasoned Boston book editor Edward Burbage vividly records the adventures of himself and two colleagues as they participate in the final dissolution of an old enemy of humanity, the healing of an antique wound, and the restoration of an equally old mythic but real figure. The pursuit of these goals takes them all over the planet, starting off in England but traveling to France, Spain, Ireland, Sicily, Greece, Turkey, Peru, the United States, and finishing in the South Island of New Zealand on the top of a formidable snow-capped peak. The story is a myth-living evocation of many of the key themes of Western mythology, such as the Wounded Fisher King, the Dolorous Stroke, the grim Wasteland, the bright Avalon of the Summer Country, the numinous Castle of the Holy Grail, the Grail Knights who dedicate their lives to questing for the holy object, and the lingering, intriguing tales of Cyclopes, the one-eyed giants of humanity’s deep past, credited with building the world’s megalithic features. The story takes place in the ultra-modern setting of 2090 as they chase the possible reality and significance of Cyclopes for current times. Burbage and his companions couldn’t have better helpers. They’re tutored by an angelic order called the Elohim, humanity’s godparents, prime benefactors, and, it turns out, the fabled Cyclopes. They’ve preserved a heavenly sword for humanity, and that’s the centerpiece of the whole affair. The ending of the reign of domination by humanity’s perpetual enemy—Ahriman, also known as the Antichrist, all-time liar, destroyer, and champion “bad guy” of the world. Burbage’s team needs this sword because the outcome of these encounters affects the next phase of Earth’s scripted destiny—the rehabilitation of humanity’s alignment with the intended design of reality.

Book Synopsis Masquerade and Civilization by : Terry Castle
Download or read book Masquerade and Civilization written by Terry Castle and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 1986 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Public masquerades were a popular and controversial form of urban entertainment in England for most of the eighteenth century. They were held regularly in London and attended by hundreds, sometimes thousands, of people from all ranks of society who delighted in disguising themselves in fanciful costumes and masks and moving through crowds of strangers. The authors shows how the masquerade played a subversive role in the eighteenth-century imagination, and that it was persistently associated with the crossing of class and sexual boundaries, sexual freedom, the overthrow of decorum, and urban corruption. Authorities clearly saw it as a profound challenge to social order and persistently sought to suppress it. The book is in two parts. In the first, the author recreates the historical phenomenon of the English masquerade: the makeup of the crowds, the symbolic language of costume, and the various codes of verbal exchange, gesture, and sexual behavior. The second part analyzes contemporary literary representations of the masquerade, using novels by Richardson, Fielding, Burney, and Inchbald to show how the masquerade in fiction reflected the disruptive power it had in contemporary life. It also served as an indispensable plot-catalyst, generating the complications out of which the essential drama of the fiction emerged. An epilogue discusses the use of the masquerade as a literary device after the eighteenth century. The book contains some 40 illustrations.
