Book excerpt: Machinery operating in non-stationary mode generates a signature which at each instant of time has a distinct frequency. A time-frequency domain representation is needed to characterize such signature. Pseudo Wigner-Ville distribution is ideally suited for portraying non-stationary signal in the time- frequency domain and carried out by adapting the fast Fourier transform algorithm. The important parameters affecting the pseudo Wigner-Ville distribution are discussed and sensitivity analyses are also performed. Practical examples of an actual transient signal are used to illustrate its dynamic features jointly in time and frequency. Pseudo Wigner-Ville distribution, Analytic signal, Hilbert transform, Gaussian window, Time- frequency domain.

Book Synopsis Safety Evaluation Based on Identification Approaches Related to Time-Variant and Nonlinear Structures by : Hans G. Natke
Download or read book Safety Evaluation Based on Identification Approaches Related to Time-Variant and Nonlinear Structures written by Hans G. Natke and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Safety evaluation by definition involves many complex factors and thus covers a wide range of topics. In order to focus the content of the workshop the subject matter was specific to the state of the art and the recent developments in nonlinear and time-variant methods employing identification procedures. Participants in the workshop represented a wide range of expertise. They were se lected in order to cover the state of the art of knowledge in fault-detection and dam age assessment, system identification, signal processing, mathematical and physical modelling and applications of techniques such as fuzzy logic and neural networks. The emphasis was placed on the exploitation and understanding of nonlinearity arising from structural or material faults. Figure 1 indicates the range of topics covered in the workshop. Since no unique or general approach yet exists for treating nonlinearity in the field of safety evaluation, many of the topics presented were problem specific. In order to assist the reader in selecting the material of primary interest a matrix of the topics covered by each participant is shown in Table 1. This table relates the authors to the subject matter, providing a guide through the diverse range of topics presented at the workshop.

Download or read book The Wigner Distribution written by W. Mecklenbräuker and published by . This book was released on 1997-10-08 with total page 492 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seven contributions discuss in depth several aspects of one of the methods for representing both the frequency domain and the temporal localization of signals, which has tremendous importance in signal analysis and processing. Among them are properties like positivity, spread, and interference-term geometry; signal synthesis methods and their application to signal design, time- frequency filtering, and signal separation; the analysis of non- stationary random processes; singular value decompositions and their application to detection and classification; and optical applications of the Wigner Distribution. Also includes a bibliography of published works on the subject from 1985 to 1992. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR

Book Synopsis A Wavelet Tour of Signal Processing by : Stephane Mallat
Download or read book A Wavelet Tour of Signal Processing written by Stephane Mallat and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1999-09-14 with total page 663 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended to serve as an invaluable reference for anyone concerned with the application of wavelets to signal processing. It has evolved from material used to teach "wavelet signal processing" courses in electrical engineering departments at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Tel Aviv University, as well as applied mathematics departments at the Courant Institute of New York University and ÉcolePolytechnique in Paris. - Provides a broad perspective on the principles and applications of transient signal processing with wavelets - Emphasizes intuitive understanding, while providing the mathematical foundations and description of fast algorithms - Numerous examples of real applications to noise removal, deconvolution, audio and image compression, singularity and edge detection, multifractal analysis, and time-varying frequency measurements - Algorithms and numerical examples are implemented in Wavelab, which is a Matlab toolbox freely available over the Internet - Content is accessible on several level of complexity, depending on the individual reader's needs New to the Second Edition - Optical flow calculation and video compression algorithms - Image models with bounded variation functions - Bayes and Minimax theories for signal estimation - 200 pages rewritten and most illustrations redrawn - More problems and topics for a graduate course in wavelet signal processing, in engineering and applied mathematics
