Book excerpt: The 1997 International Europhysics Conference on High Energy Physics was held at the campus of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and at the Jerusalem Renaissance Hotel, from August 19th to August 25th, 1997. This was the first time that the European Physical Society had its High Energy Physics Conference outside the boundary of Europe. A total of 550 physicists participated in the conference with a total of 250 presentations in the parallel sessions and 26 presentations in the plenary sessions. The Board of the of the High Energy and Particle Physics division (HEPP) of the EPS acted as the Scientific Organizing Committee. The Board acknowl edges the help of the International Advisory Committee as well as that of the Local Organizing Committee. The conference was co-organized by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and by the Weizmann Institute of Science, with important help by physi cists from the Israeli Institute of Technology (Technion) and the Tel Aviv University.

Book Synopsis 12th International Conference on Meson-Nucleon Physics and the Structure of the Nucleon by :
Download or read book 12th International Conference on Meson-Nucleon Physics and the Structure of the Nucleon written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 648 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Readership: This conference will be of interest to researchers in theoretical and experimental particle and nuclear physics. The proceedings describe recent progress at understanding the structure and interactions of nuclei, and of their building blocks, protons, neutrons, together with mesons. The papers cover the latest experimental and theoretical developments in the field, and identify the opportunities for future directions. Finally, the use of nuclei as a theatre in which to probe the Standard Model of Particle Physics is explored."--Volume detail webpage.
Book Synopsis Precision Tests Of The Standard Electroweak Model by : Paul G Langacker
Download or read book Precision Tests Of The Standard Electroweak Model written by Paul G Langacker and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1995-02-23 with total page 1032 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High precision measurements of weak neutral current and charged current processes and of the properties of the Z and W bosons have established the standard electroweak model as correct down to a distance scale of 10-16 cm, and are a sensitive probe of possible underlying physics. In this book, all aspects of the program are considered in detail, including the structure of the standard model, radiative corrections, high precision experiments, and their implications. The major classes of experiments are surveyed, covering the experiments themselves, the data analysis, results, and prospects. This volume is a detailed reference for theoretical and experimental researchers, as well as an introductory text for advanced students.
Book Synopsis From Parity Violation to Hadronic Structure and More by : Serge Kox
Download or read book From Parity Violation to Hadronic Structure and More written by Serge Kox and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Almost 50 years after the proposal of Lee and Young in 1956 to test the hypothesis of parity violation in weak interactions and the subsequent experimental verification of parity violation by C. S. Wu, parity violation has today become a useful property of weak interactions. This is due to the fact that the focus nowadays has changed: parity violation in weak interactions is no more a topic of investigation but is used as a tool in many different fields ranging from nuclear physics to the search for the hidden extra dimensions requested by string theory. For our first workshop which took place June 5-8, 2002, at the Institut fiir Ke- physik of the Johannes Gutenberg-Universitat Mainz, we concentrated on the in vestigation of the strangeness contribution in the nucleon. This book contains the refereed and selected papers of the second workshop "From Parity Violation to Hadron Structure and more (Part II)", which took place June 8-11, in the Labo- toire de Physique Subatomique et de Cosmologie, in Grenoble. These papers appear in EPJAdirect, the electronic-only part of EPJA, and they are accessible without restrictions. They will also appear in printed form and can be ordered through Springer. The excellent presentations show the dramatic and steady progress in the accuracy of measured parity violating asymmetries over the last few years.

Book Synopsis Symmetries in Subatomic Physics by : X.-H. Guo
Download or read book Symmetries in Subatomic Physics written by X.-H. Guo and published by American Institute of Physics. This book was released on 2000-10-23 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Symmetry principles play a fundamental role in modern nuclear and particle physics. The study of symmetry principles, which govern the Universe in which we live, is absolutely fundamental to modern subatomic physics. Our quantum field theories are built around these symmetries which their occasional violation not only surprises or delights, but can also offer deep insight into the dynamics of complicated systems. This meeting brought together experts from around the world who are pushing our knowledge of symmetries such as parity, charge conjugation, and even Lorentz invariance to the limits. Future developments in theoretical subatomic physics may be completely altered by hitherto unexpected discoveries of symmetry breaking. From neutrino oscillations to B-factories, from beta decay to colliders to masers, the latest theoretical and experimental developments in this field are documented. These proceedings present a valuable snapshot of the state of the art.
