Book Synopsis General Principles of Quantum Field Theory by : N.N. Bogolubov
Download or read book General Principles of Quantum Field Theory written by N.N. Bogolubov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1989-12-31 with total page 720 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The majority of the "memorable" results of relativistic quantum theory were obtained within the framework of the local quantum field approach. The explanation of the basic principles of the local theory and its mathematical structure has left its mark on all modern activity in this area. Originally, the axiomatic approach arose from attempts to give a mathematical meaning to the quantum field theory of strong interactions (of Yukawa type). The fields in such a theory are realized by operators in Hilbert space with a positive Poincare-invariant scalar product. This "classical" part of the axiomatic approach attained its modern form as far back as the sixties. * It has retained its importance even to this day, in spite of the fact that nowadays the main prospects for the description of the electro-weak and strong interactions are in connection with the theory of gauge fields. In fact, from the point of view of the quark model, the theory of strong interactions of Wightman type was obtained by restricting attention to just the "physical" local operators (such as hadronic fields consisting of ''fundamental'' quark fields) acting in a Hilbert space of physical states. In principle, there are enough such "physical" fields for a description of hadronic physics, although this means that one must reject the traditional local Lagrangian formalism. (The connection is restored in the approximation of low-energy "phe nomenological" Lagrangians.

Book Synopsis Locally Presentable and Accessible Categories by : Jiri Adamek (ing)
Download or read book Locally Presentable and Accessible Categories written by Jiri Adamek (ing) and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1994-03-10 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First the concepts of [lambda]-presentable objects, locally [lambda]-presentable categories, and [lambda]-accessible categories are discussed in detail. The authors go on to prove that Freyd's essentially algebraic categories are precisely the locally presentable categories. In the final chapter they treat some advanced topics in model theory. For researchers in category theory, algebra, computer science, and model theory, this book will be a necessary purchase.

Book Synopsis Identification and Control: Some New Challenges by : Kaïs Ammari
Download or read book Identification and Control: Some New Challenges written by Kaïs Ammari and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2020-11-12 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the Summer School on Identification and Control: some challenges, held from June 18–20, 2019, in Monastir, Tunisia. The articles cover new developments in control theory and inverse problems. First, the problem of Calderón, which consists of determining a conductivity appearing in an elliptic equation from excitation and measurements on a part of the boundary of the domain, is studied. Second, an introduction to the mathematical analysis of inverse spectral problems of Borg-Levinson type is presented. Third, the control of multi-component systems of wave equations, focusing on the notion of simultaneous control (using the same control scheme in all components of the system at hand) and indirect control (using a single control for a system consisting of two components), is presented. Last, the study of the cost of control for parabolic systems, the finite time stabilization of hyperbolic control systems by boundary feedback laws, and image reconstruction by data assimilation are addressed.
Book Synopsis Prestigious Discoveries at CERN by : Roger Cashmore
Download or read book Prestigious Discoveries at CERN written by Roger Cashmore and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2004-09-24 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The discoveries of neutral currents and of the W and Z bosons marked a watershed in the history of CERN. They established the validity of the electroweak theory and convinced physicists of the importance of renormalizable non-Abelian gauge theories of fundamental interactions. The articles collected in this book have been written by distinguished physicists who contributed in a crucial way to these developments. The book provides a historical account of those discoveries and of the construction and testing of the Standard Model. It also contains a discussion of the future of particle physics and gives an updated status of the LHC and its detectors currently being built at CERN. The book addresses those readers interested in particle physics including the educated public.
