Book excerpt: Increased flood damages in the Red River of the North prompted investigations into the probable causes of increased flood severity. Increased flooding may be related to the recently common practice of installing agricultural drain tiles and ditches. This study evaluates thirteen hydrologic models to determine which are best suited to the analysis of the causes of increased flooding. Three models, the Hydrocomp Simulation Program Fortran version (HSPF), the Runoff and Routing model (RROUT) and the Minnesota Model for Depressional Storage (MMDW) hold the greatest promise. Book excerpt: The Red River Modeling Task Force was established to review the four computer models being considered by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for modeling the Red River Basin in the United States. These models include: the water surface profile model (HEC-2), the low-flow model (HEC-3), the high-flow model (HEC-5), and the expected annual damages model (EAD). In addition the task force was instructed to prepare a report on the capabilities of these models for providing data and technical information related to the impact of existing and proposed river or ring dikes, impact of existing and proposed works such as reservoir and dike modifications on flow condition, impact of agricultural drainage and possibility of an expansion model being developed for the entire Red River basin. The Red River Modeling Task Force was appointed by the Board from Federal, State and Canadian Provincial agencies that had the technical expertise required to carry out all aspects of the study. Originator - supplied keywords include: Hydraulic models, Flooding, and International Relations.

This book was released on 1980 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of a reconnaissance study is to provide an overview of the water and related land resource problems and needs within a particular geographic area, to identify planning objectives, to assess potential solutions and problems, to determine priorities for immediate and longrange action, and to identify the capabilities of various governmental units for implementing the actions. The information developed in this report has been combined with information developed in the other subbasin reports to produce a main report covering the basin as a whole. The various flood control measures discussed in this and in other subbasin reports are combined in the main report to develop the outline of an integrated flood control plan for the basin within the context of a comprehensive plan. The Sand Hill River Subbasin is a thin rectangle about eight miles wide and 55 miles long that encompasses 484 square miles of the central Minnesota portion of the Red River Basin, including parts of Polk, Norman, and Mahnomen counties. It is one of the smallest subbasins and is sandwiched between the Red River Subbasin on the north and east, the Wild Rice-Marsh River Subbasin on the south, and the Main Stem Subbasin on the west. The subbasin has attained a legal status through the formation of the Sand Hill River Watershed District in 1975.
