Book Synopsis Muhammad the Prophet and Arabia by : Uri Rubin
Download or read book Muhammad the Prophet and Arabia written by Uri Rubin and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-10-28 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume comprises articles dealing with qur'anic and post-qur'anic aspects of the Prophet Muhammad's image and religious environment. The pieces in the first section analyse Muhammad's prophecy as reflected in the Qur'an and the post-qur'anic sources of sira (Muhammad's biography), tafsir (Qur'an exegesis), ta'rikh (historiography) and hadith (Muslim tradition). They reveal aspects of the manner in which the post-qur'anic sources have elaborated on the relatively modest qur'anic image of Muhammad for polemical needs as well as due to natural admiration for the prophet of Islam. Articles in the second section study Muhammad's prophetic experience. By concentrating on specific events in Muhammad's life further light can be shed on the post-qur'anic image of Muhammad as developed by the Muslims of the first Islamic era. The articles that comprise the third section look at Muhammad's Arabia, specifically the traditions about Mecca and the Ka`ba as well as at the pre-Islamic Arabian roots of some qur'anic and post-qur'anic ideas and rituals, including the pre-Islamic sacred status of the Ka'ba in relation to that of Jerusalem.

Download or read book Covenant of Love written by Richard Hogan and published by Ignatius Press. This book was released on 2011-02-16 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pope John Paul II has had a profound theological and personal impact on Catholics and non-Catholics alike. In the scholarly tradition of Saint Augustine and Saint Thomas, he has found a new unity between faith and reason. The study of God, says John Paul, is also the study of humanity. He has come to vigorously insist on the rights and dignity of each human person, and on the divine importance of the family. John Paul teaches that the keystone of Christian living today is the communion of persons which is the family. Covenant of Love conveys this central message of his pontificate. It explores the influence of Christ on the modern family, human intimacy, and sexuality and illustrates the Pope's response to the violations of that familial communion: materialism, sterilization, pre-marital sex, abortion, polygamy, adultery and lust, contraception and artificial conception, and homosexuality. Written for the layman as well as for clerics, students, and educators, this volume will enhance the understanding and appreciation of Pope John Paul II's teachings. Covenant of Love, presents the extraordinary new way that John Paul II is using to present a new synthesis of the faith that can be the means of renewing the faith of all Christians and of bringing more people to Christ. It sets out his philosophical and theological design for every Christian who seeks a closer relationship with God--in the person of Christ, in the Church, and in the human heart. Fr. Richard M. Hogan holds a doctorate in medieval history from the University of Minnesota. Fr. John M. LeVoir holds a M.A. in theology from Saint Paul Seminary. Both are diocesan priests of the Archdiocese of Saint Paul-Minneapolis with extensive pastoral experience. "A splendid analysis of Pope John Paul II's teachings on sexuality, marriage and the family. We see that the Pope's magnificent vision of the human person is ultimately grounded in the revealed truth that the human person is made in the image and likeness of God." - William E. May, Catholic University of America

Book Synopsis Justice and Beauty in Muslim Marriage by : Ziba Mir-Hosseini
Download or read book Justice and Beauty in Muslim Marriage written by Ziba Mir-Hosseini and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2022-11-03 with total page 471 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The model of marriage constructed in classical Islamic jurisprudence rests on patriarchal ethics that privilege men. This worldview persists in gender norms and family laws in many Muslim contexts, despite reforms introduced over the past few decades. In this volume, a diverse group of scholars explore how egalitarian marital relations can be supported from within Islamic tradition. Brought together by the Musawah movement for equality and justice in the Muslim family, they examine ethics and laws related to marriage and gender relations from the perspective of the Qur’an, Sunna, Muslim legal tradition, historical practices and contemporary law reform processes. Collectively they conceptualize how Muslim marriages can be grounded in equality, mutual well-being and the core Qur’anic principles of ‘adl (justice) and ihsan (goodness and beauty).
