Book Synopsis Properties of the Tau Lepton. [Review]. by :
Download or read book Properties of the Tau Lepton. [Review]. written by and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The measured properties of the tau lepton and its neutrino are reviewed. A constrained fit to the world data gives a tau branching fraction to an electron plus neutrinos (B/sub e/) of (17.4 +- 2.1)% and B/sub mu//B/sub e/ = 1.07 +- 0.17. New data on the tau .-->. pi nu mode are in agreement with the expected branching fraction. There is evidence for the tau .-->. A1 nu mode, but the A1 resonance cannot be conclusively established from the current data. The DELCO experiment establishes the tau mass to be 1782 /sup +2//sub −7 MeV/c2 and the nu/sub tau/ mass to be less than 250 MeV/c2. It also excludes V + A as a tau - nu/sub tau/ coupling and strongly favors V - A.

Download or read book The Discovery of the Tau Lepton written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The discovery of the tau lepton and the third generation of fermions came from the convergence of three physics streams in the late 1960's and early 1970's. These streams were: the failed attempts by myself and others to understand the connection between the electron and the muon, the development of electron-positron storage rings, and the development of the theory of sequential leptons. In this paper I give the history of the discovery of the tau and the measurement of its major properties-the properties which established the tau as a sequential lepton.

This book was released on 2005 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Several previous papers have given the history of the discovery of the [tau] lepton at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC). These papers emphasized (a) the experiments which led to our 1975 publication of the first evidence for the existence of the [tau], (b) the subsequent experiments which confirmed the existence of the r, and (c) the experiments which elucidated the major properties of the [tau]. That history will be summarized in Part 2 of this talk. In this Part 1, I describe the earlier thoughts and work of myself and my colleagues at SLAC in the 1960's and early 1970's which led to the discovery. I also describe the theoretical and experimental events in particle physics in the 1960's in which our work was immersed. I will also try to describe for the younger generations of particle physicists, the atmosphere in the 1960's. That was before the elucidation of the quark model of hadrons, before the development of the concept of particle generations The experimental paths to program we hot as clear as they are today and we had to cast a wide experimental net.

Book Synopsis Leptons by : Christopher M. Villegas
Download or read book Leptons written by Christopher M. Villegas and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Leptons: Classes, Properties and Interactions, the authors develop a model to calculate the masses of charged leptons by quantifying the electrostatic field generated by these particles. This model is extended to weak and strong interactions in order to calculate the masses of all elementary fermions. Next, by taking the SU(2) group of weak interactions in the presence of Electric Charge Swap-symmetry as a starting point, this compilation show that ordinary and non-regular leptons are related by the ECS-rotational SO(3) group. By considering the ECS-Hamiltonian quaternions for leptons, the authors find that the SU(5) Grand Unified Theory originates from the image of normalized quaternions group N(Q8) under the ECS-rotations. The differential cross-section corresponding to a dispersion process in the context of the 331RHν model is calculated in order to use the results in terrestrial and astrophysical experiments. The differential cross-section is written in terms of the mass of the new gauge boson Z′, the mixing angle, the magnetic moment of the neutrino, and the charge radius. In closing, the authors obtain analytical expressions for the total cross section of the process e+e− τ+τ−γ in the context of the B-L model. The total cross section is analyzed in terms of the mass of the new gauge boson Z′, the mixing angle θ′ of the B-L model, the magnetic moment and the electric dipole moment of the τ -lepton.

Download or read book University Physics written by OpenStax and published by . This book was released on 2016-11-04 with total page 622 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: University Physics is a three-volume collection that meets the scope and sequence requirements for two- and three-semester calculus-based physics courses. Volume 1 covers mechanics, sound, oscillations, and waves. Volume 2 covers thermodynamics, electricity and magnetism, and Volume 3 covers optics and modern physics. This textbook emphasizes connections between between theory and application, making physics concepts interesting and accessible to students while maintaining the mathematical rigor inherent in the subject. Frequent, strong examples focus on how to approach a problem, how to work with the equations, and how to check and generalize the result. The text and images in this textbook are grayscale.
