Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Building any organization to be successful today is a tough job. For organizations operating in critical environments, however, the task is even more difficult. When you truly understand the significant consequences of failure in these environments, you're forced to the realization that failure is not an option. These consequences drive the successful mission critical facilities organization to focus on risk mitigation. It permeates their culture, their perspective on operations, and challenges them to constantly improve.Building Mission Critical Facilities Organizations was written with the hope that by identifying and explaining the attributes or DNA, if you will, of successful mission critical organizations, leaders and stakeholders would be able to replicate that DNA in their own facilities. Delving below the surface, Building Mission Critical Facilities Organizations explores the fundamental building blocks of people, culture, and process and then provides a path to success.

Provides a set of guidelines to help managers evaluate the benefits and risks of ES implementation, stressing that an organization must make simultaneous changes in its information systems, business processes, and business strategy. Such changes are described in detail with extensive examples from real organizations, demonstrating that ESs should be viewed as business rather than technology projects. Davenport is director of a consulting institute and professor of information management at Boston University. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR

This book was released on 1994 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study was conducted in order to generate quantitatively valid information regarding the project attributes of successful Open Systems projects. Open systems is the new technology that includes Client/Server, Unix, local area network (LAN), and downsizing projects. A literature search revealed only a handful substantive articles on Open Systems in project management. A questionnaire was developed regarding 69 project attributes from 47 separate projects. Of these 69 attributes, 16 were identified as the most prevalent in successful projects outcomes and became the focus of this study. Analysis showed that despite media attention and emphasis on the ease of use of technology, it is actually the processes involved in implementing Open Systems in project management that contribute the most to its success. These attributes have shown that proper processes are more important than the technology that is being used.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: View IS project management as an art as well as a science. . . . There are a number of books out there on project management. What is different and specific about this book? There is a balance between socio-cultural and technical aspects and there is a balance between qualitative and quantitative aspects – project management is seen as both an art and a science. It provides an information systems orientation for project management: neither information technology oriented on the one side nor production and operations oriented on the other, but of application to both within an organizational-wide view. It stresses information systems as a whole, not just software development – no project is successful if only software aspects are considered. It gives a truly international view of the domain – examples and experiences from different parts of the world add richness as well as context to the material. Globalization has ensured that most projects take on an international dimension. The book provides a coherent explanation of the concerns of the project manager as the project develops through the project life cycle – it does not follow a 'kitchen sink approach'. Each chapter has the following consistent structure: introduction and outline, an exhibit, the main text with examples, chapter summary, exercises, discussion questions, interview with project manager and appendix – this structure provides coherence and consistency. The exhibit, interview and appendix contain real-world examples, experiences, case studies, discussion material, software descriptions and professional codes – these provide material for class discussion and group work. The material has been used on our courses in the United States, Europe and Australia, given to practitioners as well as students (both undergraduate and postgraduate) – it has been well tested as part of our own project managemenThe material in this text has been proven successful through repeated use in courses in the United States, Europe, and Australia, by practitioners as well as undergraduate and postgraduate students. Intended Audience This core text is designed for advanced undergraduate and graduate courses such as Management Information Systems, Computer Information Systems, Information Systems, and Decision and Information Systems in the departments of information systems, information technology, and business.
