Book Synopsis Water Resource Systems Planning and Management by : Daniel P. Loucks
Download or read book Water Resource Systems Planning and Management written by Daniel P. Loucks and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-03-02 with total page 624 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is open access under a CC BY-NC 4.0 license. This revised, updated textbook presents a systems approach to the planning, management, and operation of water resources infrastructure in the environment. Previously published in 2005 by UNESCO and Deltares (Delft Hydraulics at the time), this new edition, written again with contributions from Jery R. Stedinger, Jozef P. M. Dijkman, and Monique T. Villars, is aimed equally at students and professionals. It introduces readers to the concept of viewing issues involving water resources as a system of multiple interacting components and scales. It offers guidelines for initiating and carrying out water resource system planning and management projects. It introduces alternative optimization, simulation, and statistical methods useful for project identification, design, siting, operation and evaluation and for studying post-planning issues. The authors cover both basin-wide and urban water issues and present ways of identifying and evaluating alternatives for addressing multiple-purpose and multi-objective water quantity and quality management challenges. Reinforced with cases studies, exercises, and media supplements throughout, the text is ideal for upper-level undergraduate and graduate courses in water resource planning and management as well as for practicing planners and engineers in the field.

Book Synopsis Water Supply and Water Scarcity by : Vasileios A. Tzanakakis
Download or read book Water Supply and Water Scarcity written by Vasileios A. Tzanakakis and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2020-11-04 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Book includes selected papers that has been published in the Water journal Special Issue (SI) on Water Supply and Water Scarcity. Moreover, an overview of the SI is included. The papers selected for publication in the SI include review and research papers on water history, on water management issues under water scarcity regimes, on rainwater harvesting, on water quality and degradation, and on climatic variability impacts on water resources. Overall, the issue identify and highlight the main challenges in water sector, and particularly in management and protection of water resources and in use of alternative (non-conventional) water resources, especially in areas with demographic change and climate vulnerability in order to achieve sustainable and secure water supply. Furthermore, general guidelines and possible solutions for an improved and sophisticated water management system are proposed and discussed, such as the adoption of advanced technological solutions and practices that improve water-use efficiency and the use of alternative water resources, to address the growing environmental and health issues and to reduce the emerging conflicts among water users.

Book Synopsis Managing Constraints to Water Source Development by : Andrew G. Graham
Download or read book Managing Constraints to Water Source Development written by Andrew G. Graham and published by American Water Works Association. This book was released on 1999 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report summarizes research performed by the Department of Civil Engineering on water and revenue loss problems in water utilities commonly referred to as 'unaccounted-for water'. The research was conducted by the principal investigator and graduate students with assistance from Community Consultants, Inc. of Springville, Utah. The American Water Works Association Research Foundation (AWWARF) sponsored this project. The objectives of this effort are to: 1. assess the value of various methods used to measure quantities of water that are lost of not accounted for; 2. provide an appraisal of the techniques available to monitor such losses; 3. suggest standardized definitions for the terms used to describe the types and sources of water and revenue losses; and 4. identify solutions available to utilities to control such losses of water or revenue including generalized benefit/cost analysis of suggested solutions.

Book Synopsis Water Planning in Britain by : Dennis J. Parker
Download or read book Water Planning in Britain written by Dennis J. Parker and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-04-03 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1980, this book provides a penetrating and scholarly analysis of the planning of water resources, based on 10 years’ of research into one of Britain’s most vital industries. At the time of original publication Britain had a plentiful natural supply of water, but accessible clean water was scarce; droughts were not uncommon, floods often caused considerable damage; water bills were rising dramatically and consumption increasing inexorably. All of which applies as much to water resources in the UK today. Water planners must strike a delicate balance between many conflicting social, environmental, political and financial demands. Britain’s water authorities are large and autonomous organisations subject to constant change and controversy. Water policies affect not only water but also land-use planning, recreation planning, environmental quality, food production and the maintenance of public health. The book explains common threads and issues in the planning of 4 main water functions: water supply, effluent disposal and pollution control, water recreation and amenity and land drainage and flood alleviation. 11 original British case studies have been selected to illustrate the issues involved. The final chapter presents a critical and controversial evaluation of water policy and planning institutions in Britain, highlighted by some international comparisons.
