Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is designed for undergraduate students completely new to programming with MATLAB. Case studies and examples are used extensively throughout this book and are at the core of what makes this book so unique. The author believes that the best way to learn MATLAB is to study programs written by experienced programmers and that the quality of these example programs determines the quality of the book. The examples in this book are carefully designed to teach you MATLAB programming as well as to inspire within you your own problem solving potential. Most of the examples used in this book are designed to solve a whole class of problems, rather than a single, specific problem. A learn by doing teaching approach is used all through the book. You are guided to tackle a problem using MATLAB commands first and then the commands are explained line by line. This process of learning through hands on experience is one of the most efficient and pain-free ways of learning MATLAB. This approach, together with the extensive use of ordered textboxes, figures, and tables, greatly reduces the size of the book, while still providing you with a book that’s comprehensive and easy to follow. The first chapter of this book introduces the MATLAB programming environment and familiarizes you with MATLAB’s core functionality. Chapters two through nine discuss basic MATLAB functionalities in a progressive and comprehensive way. The chapters start out simple and build in complexity as you advance through the book. Chapters ten through thirteen cover advanced topics that are particularly useful in college programs. Each chapter consists of sections, each covering a topic and providing one or more examples. Related MATLAB functions are organized at the end of a section. Additional exercise problems are provided at the end of chapters two through nine. Examples in each section are presented in a consistent way. An example is usually described first, followed by a MATLAB script. Any resulting text and graphics output (and in some cases inputs) that are produced from running a script are presented and discussed. Finally, the remainder of each section is devoted to explaining the purpose of the lines of the script.

This book was released on 2019-06 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book accomplishes two things simultaneously: it teaches you to use the latest version of the powerful MATLAB programming environment, and it teaches you core, transferable programming skills that will make you feel at home with most procedural programming languages. MATLAB has been in existence for more than 30 years and is used by millions of engineers, scientists, and students worldwide, both for its depth and its easy usability. With dozens of specialized toolboxes available beyond the core program, as well as its companion program Simulink for simulation and model-based design, MATLAB can serve as an invaluable aid throughout your career. Unlike many MATLAB books, ours assumes no prior experience in computer programming. Using an approachable tone, we take you from the simplest variables through complex examples of data visualization and curve fitting. Each chapter builds on the last, presenting an in-depth tutorial on a focused concept central to programming, using the MATLAB language, but applicable to countless other popular and in-demand languages such as C++, Java, JavaScript, R, and Python. We'll ask you to perform short exercises as we work through each chapter, followed by more end-to-end exercises and mental challenges at the chapter's end. As the complexity of the concepts increases, the exercises present increasingly real-world engineering challenges to match. Once you've completed An Engineer's Introduction to Programming with MATLAB 2019, you will have a solid foundation in computer programming forms and concepts and a comfort with the MATLAB environment and programming language. We believe that you'll enjoy both gaining and having that knowledge, and that you'll be able to use it almost immediately with your other coursework. Videos The authors of this book have recorded instructional videos to accompany this book. These videos allow you to see many of the instructions given in the tutorials being executed in MATLAB itself. These videos should be of particular help to visual learners. This book includes • Step-by-step tutorials written to help the novice user become proficient using MATLAB • A Getting Started chapter for configuring MATLAB for use with the tutorials • Organization and a level suitable for a first year introductory engineering course • Updates for the MATLAB 2019a release. • Tips offering suggestions and warnings as you progress through the book • Key Terms and Key Commands listed to recap important topics and commands learned in each tutorial • An index to help you easily look up topics • Exercises at the end of each tutorial providing challenges to a range of abilities.

It provides a comprehensive collection of standards and guidelines for creating solid MATLAB code that will be easy to understand, enhance, and maintain. It is written for both individuals and those working in teams in which consistency is critical. This is the only book devoted to MATLAB style and best programming practices, focusing on how MATLAB code can be written in order to maximize its effectiveness. Just as Strunk and White's The Elements of Style provides rules for writing in the English language, this book provides conventions for formatting, naming, documentation, programming and testing. It includes many concise examples of correct and incorrect usage, as well as coverage of the latest language features. The author also provides recommendations on use of the integrated development environment features that help produce better, more consistent software.

We will illustrate several numerical methods for the computer solution of c- tain classes of mathematical problems that cannot be faced by paper and pencil. We will show how to compute the zeros or the integrals of continuous functions, solve linear systems, approximate functions by polynomials and construct accurate approximations for the solution of di?erential equations. With this aim, in Chapter 1 we will illustrate the rules of the game thatcomputersadoptwhenstoringandoperatingwith realandcomplex numbers, vectors and matrices. In order to make our presentation concrete and appealing we will 1 adopt the programming environment MATLAB as a faithful c- panion. We will gradually discover its principal commands, statements and constructs. We will show how to execute all the algorithms that we introduce throughout the book. This will enable us to furnish an - mediate quantitative assessment of their theoretical properties such as stability, accuracy and complexity. We will solve several problems that will be raisedthrough exercises and examples, often stemming from s- ci?c applications.

Book excerpt: Providing an alternative to engineering-focused resources in the area, Programming Mathematics Using MATLAB® introduces the basics of programming and of using MATLAB® by highlighting many mathematical examples. Emphasizing mathematical concepts through the visualization of programming throughout the book, this useful resource utilizes examples that may be familiar to math students (such as numerical integration) and others that may be new (such as fractals). Additionally, the text uniquely offers a variety of MATLAB® projects, all of which have been class-tested thoroughly, and which enable students to put MATLAB® programming into practice while expanding their comprehension of concepts such as Taylor polynomials and the Gram–Schmidt process. Programming Mathematics Using MATLAB® is appropriate for readers familiar with sophomore-level mathematics (vectors, matrices, multivariable calculus), and is useful for math courses focused on MATLAB® specifically and those focused on mathematical concepts which seek to utilize MATLAB® in the classroom. Provides useful visual examples throughout for student comprehension Includes valuable, class-tested projects to reinforce both familiarity with MATLAB® and a deeper understanding of mathematical principles Offers downloadable MATLAB® scripts to supplement practice and provide useful example
