Book Synopsis Adaptive Sampling for Enhanced Performance of an Ion Detection System for a Triple Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer by : Robert Stanley Matthews
Download or read book Adaptive Sampling for Enhanced Performance of an Ion Detection System for a Triple Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer written by Robert Stanley Matthews and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Detection and tabulation of mass-selected ions are the primary means of data acquisition for mass spectrometers. Previous detection systems have been limited in dynamic range, or in data throughput, so that inefficient and limited use of the ion information resulted. Analysis of the statistical properties of randomly arriving ions and the use of state-of-the-art technologies have led to the development of an enhanced ion detection system (IDS) for a triple quadrupole mass spectrometer (TQMS). An adaptive sampling technique maximizes data throughput without distorting relative error or limiting dynamic range. This microprocessor-based system measures flux rates from 10 to the zero power to 10 to the 9th power ions per second up to a maximum relative error of 1%; sampling periods are reduced to their statistically defined minimums. Preliminary tests have validated the correctness of the IDS design along with its capability for on-line customized operation through the use of powerful and flexible high-level software. (Author).

Book Synopsis Adaptive Sampling by : Steven K. Thompson
Download or read book Adaptive Sampling written by Steven K. Thompson and published by Wiley-Interscience. This book was released on 1996-06-07 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Offering a viable solution to the long-standing problem of estimating the abundance of rare, clustered populations, adaptive sampling designs are rapidly gaining prominence in the natural and social sciences as well as in other fields with inherently difficult sampling situations. In marked contrast to conventional sampling designs, in which the entire sample of units to be observed is fixed prior to the survey, adaptive sampling strategies allow for increased sampling intensity depending upon observations made during the survey. For example, in a survey to assess the abundance of a rare animal species, neighboring sites may be added to the sample whenever the species is encountered during the survey. In an epidemiological survey of a contagious or genetically linked disease, sampling intensity may be increased whenever prevalence of the disease is encountered. Written by two acknowledged experts in this emerging field, this book offers researchers their first comprehensive introduction to adaptive sampling. An ideal reference for statisticians conducting research in survey designs and spatial statistics as well as researchers working in the environmental, ecological, public health, and biomedical sciences. Adaptive Sampling: Provides a comprehensive, fully integrated introduction to adaptive sampling theory and practice Describes recent research findings Introduces readers to a wide range of adaptive sampling strategies and techniques Includes numerous real-world examples from environmental pollution studies, surveys of rare animal and plant species, studies of contagious diseases, marketing surveys, mineral and fossil-fuel assessments, and more

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Challenges and Innovations in Ocean In-Situ Sensors: Measuring Inner Ocean Processes and Health in the Digital Age highlights collaborations of industry and academia in identifying the key challenges and solutions related to ocean observations. A new generation of sensors is presented that addresses the need for higher reliability (e.g. against biofouling), better integration on platforms in terms of size and communication, and data flow across domains (in-situ, space, etc.). Several developments are showcased using a broad diversity of measuring techniques and technologies. Chapters address different sensors and approaches for measurements, including applications, quality monitoring and initiatives that will guide the need for monitoring. Integrates information across key marine and maritime sectors and supports regional policy requirements on monitoring programs Offers tactics for enabling early detection and more effective monitoring of the marine environment and implementation of appropriate management actions Presents new technologies driving the next generation of sensors, allowing readers to understand new capabilities for monitoring and opportunities for another generation of sensors Includes a global vision for ocean monitoring that fosters a new perspective on the direction of ocean measurements
