Book excerpt: Women account for about half of the agricultural workforce and over 63 percent of the rural female workforce is engaged in agriculture in Bangladesh (Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics [BBS], 2018). Under the leadership of the Government of Bangladesh, the country has made significant progress towards gender equality and advancing the status of women and girls, particularly in education and health care. The country ranked fiftieth among 153 countries in the Global Gender Gap Report for 2020. Bangladesh has adopted many laws and policies to promote gender equality, including the National Women Development Policy 2011. Gender inequality continues to manifest in forms of gender-based discrimination, which includes restrictive social norms, access to and control over resources, barriers to accessing services and involvement in decision-making processes. Beyond the burden of unpaid care work, the lack of economic empowerment is a massive loss for Bangladesh’s economy, which could otherwise benefit from the equal participation of women. FAO recognizes the centrality of gender equality in its mandate to achieve food security for all by raising levels of nutrition, improving agricultural productivity, natural resource management and improving the lives of rural populations. The FAO Policy on Gender Equality 2020–2030 aims to advance equality of voice, agency and access to resources and services between women and men in sustainable agricultural production and rural development, identifying gender mainstreaming and women-targeted interventions as a two-fold strategy.
Book Synopsis Strategic Capability Response Analysis by : David Walters
Download or read book Strategic Capability Response Analysis written by David Walters and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-11-21 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book integrates Industrié 4.0, Value Chain Network Management 2.0, and Stakeholder Value-Led Management into a method, offering organizations an opportunity to be more analytical when making strategic decisions for operations management activities. Strategic Capability Response Analysis embraces the value expectations of all stakeholders in a business enterprise and links them together with a demand-supply-response relationship. This convergence delivers a focused “agile-rolling-value proposition” that optimizes the expectations and the resources of its stakeholder constituents. The use of Strategic Capability Response Analysis considers the implications of the changing environment of value chain network management for the digital age. Industrié 4.0 has presented numerous opportunities across all industries to improve both the effectiveness of strategic decisions and the efficiency of their implementation to the network stakeholders. As Industrié 4.0 is changing the characteristics of decision making, the proposed model considers the impact of alternative solutions on the core business model components of performance, profitability, productivity, producibility, partnerships and preservation. The book includes case studies to highlight current management problems and how this approach can be used to help resolve those issues.

This book was released on 2021-09-16 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gaps between policy and implementation, and limited availability of sex disaggregated data and gender-sensitive indicators to inform sound policies and budgets have kept women marginalized in many sectors. No baselines mean no measurement of progress in effectively implementing the array of commitments towards gender equality and women’s empowerment in agriculture, food security and nutrition, rural development and management of natural resources. This report reveals gender disparities in access to critical agriculture and rural resources, knowledge, opportunities, services and markets. It explores the existing gender relations and gaps in the various sub sectors of agriculture, and their possible causes and impact on food and nutrition security, and makes policy recommendations to address them.

Book Synopsis National gender profile of agriculture and rural livelihoods – United Republic of Tanzania by : Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations
Download or read book National gender profile of agriculture and rural livelihoods – United Republic of Tanzania written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2023-03-30 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Government of the United Republic of Tanzania recognizes that sustainable development cannot be achieved without attaining gender equality; hence, gender is mainstreamed in all sectors, including the agriculture sector. This commitment is reflected in the national Constitution, national strategies, plans and policies such as the Tanzania Development Vision 2025, National Five-Year Development Plan 2016/17–2021/22, National Strategy for Growth and Reduction of Poverty (NSGRP I and II), Women and Gender Development Policy of 2000 and the National Agriculture Policy of 2013. The agriculture sector employs nearly 66 percent of the workforce in the United Republic of Tanzania, thereby contributing to bringing the country closer to becoming a middle-income country. However, the sector, like all other sectors, is negatively impacted by the gender inequalities. To address the gender gaps in all sectors, including agriculture, the United Republic of Tanzania established the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children (MoHCDGEC) as the national institution to mainstream gender.

Download or read book Water written by Brahma Chellaney and published by Georgetown University Press. This book was released on 2013-07-25 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a pioneering study about the relationship between fresh water, peace, and security in Asia from the Middle East to Siberia but with a special focus on South and Southeast Asia. Asia is home to many of the world's great rivers and lakes, but its huge population and booming economies make it the most water-scarce continent on a per capita basis. Over extensive irrigation, pollution, and global warming add to the demographic and economic pressures on Asia's fresh water supplies. The location of the sources for much of South and Southeast Asia's fresh water is in the Chinese controlled Tibetan Plateau, and China's increasing exploitation of these water sources have created growing geopolitical tensions that could boil over into conflict. India is reliant on fresh water from Tibet, which gives the Chinese uncomfortable leverage over India and further exacerbates their unsettled border disputes. Vietnam, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and other countries of the region also find themselves in similarly vulnerable positions where water is scarce and the sources are increasingly being exploited and polluted upstream by the continent's most powerful country. Brahma Chellaney proposes strategies to avoid conflict and more equitably share and preserve Asia's water resources.
