This book was released on 1999 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: LA GEOMETRIE STOCHASTIQUE S'EST AVEREE ETRE UN OUTIL GENERIQUE POUR LA MODELISATION DE RESEAUX DE TELECOMMUNICATIONS. L'IDEE DE L'APPROCHE EST DE REPRESENTER LA CONFIGURATION D'UN RESEAU PAR UNE FAMILLE D'OBJETS ALEATOIRES (ENSEMBLES DE POINTS, GRAPHES, PAVAGES). L'ANALYSE DES MODELES S'EFFECTUE PAR DES METHODES GENERALES DE LA GEOMETRIE STOCHASTIQUE, DE LA THEORIE DES PROCESSUS PONCTUELS, DE LA STATISTIQUE SPATIALE ET DE LA THEORIE DES GRAPHES. LA PREMIERE PARTIE DE LA THESE EST MOTIVEE PAR DES PROBLEMES DE ROUTAGE DANS LES RESEAUX MOBILES DECENTRALISES. NOUS ETUDIONS UNE CLASSE DE CHEMINS CONSTRUITS PAR UN ALGORITHME SIMPLE SUR UN GRAPHE DE POISSON-DELAUNAY, QUI REPRESENTE L'INFRASTRUCTURE D'UN RESEAU. LES RESULTATS PRINCIPAUX CONCERNENT LA QUALITE DE L'APPROXIMATION DES CHEMINS LES PLUS COURTS ET DE LA DISTANCE EUCLIDIENNE PAR LES CHEMINS DE CETTE CLASSE. UN PROTOTYPE D'ALGORITHME DE ROUTAGE DANS LES RESEAUX MOBILES EST PROPOSE COMME APPLICATION. DANS LA DEUXIEME PARTIE NOUS INTRODUISONS LES PAVAGES AGREGES, MODELE POUR LES ZONES DE SERVICE RATTACHEES AUX NUDS D'UN RESEAU HIERARCHIQUE. NOUS ETUDIONS LES PROPRIETES DE LA DISTRIBUTION DE TELS PAVAGES ET LA GEOMETRIE DE LEURS CELLULES. ON CARACTERISE LEUR COMPORTEMENT LIMITE QUAND LE NOMBRE DES NIVEAUX DANS LA HIERARCHIE TEND VERS L'INFINI ET ON DEMONTRE CERTAINES PROPRIETES FRACTALES DE L'OBJET LIMITE. ON MONTRE AUSSI COMMENT LES PAVAGES AGREGES PEUVENT SERVIR POUR LE RAFFINEMENT DES MODELES DE CELLULES RADIO BASES SUR LES PAVAGES DE VORONOI.

Book Synopsis Stochastic Modeling and Analysis of Telecom Networks by : Laurent Decreusefond
Download or read book Stochastic Modeling and Analysis of Telecom Networks written by Laurent Decreusefond and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2012-12-27 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses the stochastic modeling of telecommunication networks, introducing the main mathematical tools for that purpose, such as Markov processes, real and spatial point processes and stochastic recursions, and presenting a wide list of results on stability, performances and comparison of systems. The authors propose a comprehensive mathematical construction of the foundations of stochastic network theory: Markov chains, continuous time Markov chains are extensively studied using an original martingale-based approach. A complete presentation of stochastic recursions from an ergodic theoretical perspective is also provided, as well as spatial point processes. Using these basic tools, stability criteria, performance measures and comparison principles are obtained for a wide class of models, from the canonical M/M/1 and G/G/1 queues to more sophisticated systems, including the current “hot topics” of spatial radio networking, OFDMA and real-time networks. Contents 1. Introduction. Part 1: Discrete-time Modeling 2. Stochastic Recursive Sequences. 3. Markov Chains. 4. Stationary Queues. 5. The M/GI/1 Queue. Part 2: Continuous-time Modeling 6. Poisson Process. 7. Markov Process. 8. Systems with Delay. 9. Loss Systems. Part 3: Spatial Modeling 10. Spatial Point Processes.

Book Synopsis Life Insurance Mathematics by : Hans U. Gerber
Download or read book Life Insurance Mathematics written by Hans U. Gerber and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: HaIley's Comet has been prominently displayed in many newspapers during the last few months. For the first time in 76 years it appeared this winter, clearly visible against the nocturnal sky. This is an appropriate occasion to point out the fact that Sir Edmund Halley also constructed the world's first life table in 1693, thus creating the scientific foundation of life insurance. Halley's life table and its successors were viewed as deterministic laws, i. e. the number of deaths in any given group and year was considered to be a weIl defined number that could be calculated by means of a life table. However, in reality this number is random. Thus any mathematical treatment of life insurance will have to rely more and more on prob ability theory. By sponsoring this monograph the Swiss Association of Actuaries wishes to support the "modern" probabilistic view oflife contingencies. We are fortu nate that Professor Gerber, an internationally renowned expert, has assumed the task of writing the monograph. We thank the Springer-Verlag and hope that this monograph will be the first in a successful series of actuarial texts. Hans Bühlmann Zürich, March 1986 President Swiss Association of Actuaries Preface Two major developments have influenced the environment of actuarial math ematics. One is the arrival of powerful and affordable computers; the once important problem of numerical calculation has become almost trivial in many instances.

Book Synopsis Neurobiology of "Umwelt" by : Alain Berthoz
Download or read book Neurobiology of "Umwelt" written by Alain Berthoz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-11-14 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the beginning of the 20th century, German biologist Jakob von Uexküll created the concept of "Umwelt" to denote the environment as experienced by a subject. This concept of environment differs from the idea of passive surroundings and is defined not just by physical surroundings, but is rather a "subjective universe", a space weighted with meaning. Today, neuroscience provides a new way to look at the brain’s capability to create a representation of the world. At the same time behavioural specialists are demonstrating that animals have a richer mental universe than previously known. Philosophical reflection thus finds itself with more experimental and objective data as well. Nearly a century after the publication of von Uexküll’s founding work ("Umwelt und Innenwelt der Tiere" was published in 1909), neurobiologists, psychologists, sociologists, anthropologists, ethologists, and philosophers revisit his mail concept at the light of modern science

Book Synopsis Flow Sensing in Air and Water by : Horst Bleckmann
Download or read book Flow Sensing in Air and Water written by Horst Bleckmann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-01-22 with total page 558 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, leading scientists in the fields of sensory biology, neuroscience, physics and engineering explore the basic operational principles and behavioral uses of flow sensing in animals and how they might be applied to engineering applications such as autonomous control of underwater or aerial vehicles. Although humans possess no flow-sensing abilities, countless aquatic (e.g. fish, cephalopods and seals), terrestrial (e.g. crickets and spiders) and aerial (e.g. bats) animals have flow sensing abilities that underlie remarkable behavioral feats. These include the ability to follow silent hydrodynamic trails long after the trailblazer has left the scene, to form hydrodynamic images of their environment in total darkness, and to swim or fly efficiently and effortlessly in the face of destabilizing currents and winds.

Book excerpt: “Simplexity, as I understand it, is the range of solutions living organisms have found, despite the complexity of natural processes, to enable the brain to prepare an action and plan for the consequences of it. These solutions are simplifying principles that enable the processing of information or situations, by taking into account past experience and anticipating the future. They are neither caricatures, shortcuts, or summaries. They are new ways of asking questions, sometimes at the cost of occasional detours, in order to achieve faster, more elegant, more effective actions.” A. B. As Alain Berthoz demonstrates in this profoundly original book, simplicity is never easy; it requires suppressing, selecting, connecting, thinking, in order to then act in the best way possible. And what if we, in turn, are inspired by the living world to process the complexity that surrounds us? Alain Berthoz is professor at the Collège de France where he is co-director of the Laboratoire de physiologie de la perception et de l’action. [Laboratory for the physiology of perception and action]. He is a member of the French Academy of Sciences, and is the author of Le Sens du mouvement [The Brain's Sense of Movement] and La Décision [Emotion and Reason].
