Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Utilization of high sulfur coals is becoming increasingly difficult in view of tighter environmental regulations being imposed around the world. To meet the challenge of utilizing high sulfur coals without damaging the environment, many scientists and engineers around the world are engaged in developing novel technologies. In the U.S.A. alone, the federal government has spent about five billion dollars to achieve that goal. This conference, like its predecessors, emphasizes desulfurization with papers on physical and chemical cleaning as well as post-treatment and fluid-bed combustion technologies. Of the 45 papers submitted, 15 papers deal with physical cleaning and 7 deal with chemical cleaning of coal, suggesting that a major emphasis is still be placed on pre-cleaning of coal. The post-treatment technologies, being developed with the support of U.S. federal and state government agencies, emphasize removal of both SOx and NOx gases. The book will be of particular interest and benefit to researchers, graduate students and other people involved in coal processing, characterization and utilization; public policy making and administration related to energy conservation, economic development, and environmental protection; and investors in industry and new technology.

Book Synopsis Processing and Utilization of High-sulfur Coals III by : Richard Markuszewski
Download or read book Processing and Utilization of High-sulfur Coals III written by Richard Markuszewski and published by Elsevier Publishing Company. This book was released on 1990 with total page 840 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is a collection of peer-reviewed articles providing a summary of the most recent accomplishments by many of the leaders of high-sulfur coal research and development. Improvements in coal cleaning technology by application of either physical, chemical, or biological processes, and new developments in both the froth flotation and oil agglomeration methods of cleaning are reported. Innovative electrostatic and aerodynamic methods are described for cleaning coal, and progress is noted in the development of coal desulfurization by either caustic leaching, oxidative leaching, microbial treatment, or low-temperature pyrolysis. Papers also included in this book concern the capture of sulfur oxides either during or following the combustion of coal; sorbent characterization and the effects of different factors and/or additives on sorbent utilization; the capture of sulfur oxides in various types of combustion systems, including pulverized coal, slagging, fluidized bed and magnetohydrodynamic systems. Recent technical developments are reported for sorbent injection in flue-gas ducts as a means of capturing sulfur oxides.

This book was released on 1991 with total page 852 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These proceedings comprise peer-reviewed articles summarizing the most recent progress made by many of the leaders of high-sulfur coal research and development in the past two years. Four papers cover the conversion of coals to liquid and gaseous products both as a means of removing sulfur and for increasing the utility and value of the coal. Improvements in coal cleaning technology by application of biological, physical and chemical processes, as well as combinations of these methods are reported. Methods of beneficiation including the emerging electrochemical and ultrasonic approaches are also presented. Several papers cover the fundamentals and applications of flotation as a technique for separating the sulfur from the carbon content of coal once the sulfur has been liberated from the coal matrix. One paper describes a microbial process for removing solubilized iron and sulfur (as sulfate) that have been liberated from coal. Eight contributions deal with the various aspects of cleaning potential atmospheric contaminants from coal combustion gasses. The book will be of particular interest and benefit to researchers, graduate students and all persons involved in coal production, processing and utilization; public policy making and administration related to energy conservation, economic development, and environmental protection; and investors in industry and new technology.

Download or read book Coal written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2007-12-21 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coal will continue to provide a major portion of energy requirements in the United States for at least the next several decades. It is imperative that accurate information describing the amount, location, and quality of the coal resources and reserves be available to fulfill energy needs. It is also important that the United States extract its coal resources efficiently, safely, and in an environmentally responsible manner. A renewed focus on federal support for coal-related research, coordinated across agencies and with the active participation of the states and industrial sector, is a critical element for each of these requirements. Coal focuses on the research and development needs and priorities in the areas of coal resource and reserve assessments, coal mining and processing, transportation of coal and coal products, and coal utilization.

The book highlights the role of hydrophytes, hyperaccumulators and native plants for accumulation and detoxification of industrial wastewater. Various chapters presented in the book are focused on the sustainability approaches as the centre theme to facilitate industries & policymakers in adopting circular economy goals. Since the principle idea of circular bioeconomy is to make transition from linear economy, it involves advanced technological and designing breakthroughs to reduce waste with a closed looped system. This pioneers a cradle to cradle and waste to resources approach. Integration of various technologies has been considered as possible best ways to utilize the industry wastewater treatment. Covers integration of technologies and processes for wastewater treatment Reports plants species useful in effectively accumulating heavy metals from the treated wastewater Describes Phytoremediation for mass biotechnological processing of the industrial areas Academicians, engineers, researchers and stakeholders will find this book helpful in adaptation of suitable technologies for wastewater management
