Book excerpt: Polyurea: Synthesis, Properties, Composites, Production, and Applications is a comprehensive and practical guide to polyurea, a material used for its exceptional properties and performance in a range of high value industrial applications. Sections cover polyurea formulations and properties, comparing aromatic polyurea with aliphatic polyurea and computation modeling of properties for polyurea and polyurea composites. This is followed by in-depth coverage of synthesis, structure and production methods of polyurea, with the connections between production, performance and properties examined thoroughly. Other sections explain the preparation, characterization, modeling and applications of polyurea and polyurea composites with the required properties for specific advanced applications. Finally, environmental issues, recycling and future potential of polyurea are considered. This is a valuable resource for researchers and advanced students in polymer science, chemistry, composite science, civil engineering, materials science and mechanical engineering, as well as R&D professionals, engineers and industrial scientists with an interest in polyurea-based materials for advanced applications. - Provides the fundamentals of polyurea, including synthesis, structure, formulations and properties - Explains conventional and novel production methods for polyurea and polyurea composites, analyzing their advantages and limitations - Guides the reader to advanced industrial applications across areas such as construction, defense, engineering and biomedicine
Book Synopsis Practical Applications of Variable Rate Impact Testing of Reaction Injection Molding Urethanes by : SB. Driscoll
Download or read book Practical Applications of Variable Rate Impact Testing of Reaction Injection Molding Urethanes written by SB. Driscoll and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Instrumented variable rate impact testing has been found to be an effective analytical tool for identifying the important load-deflection response of reaction injection molding (RIM) materials. Molded parts of varying geometries can now be tested using many impacting probes or tups over a wide impacting rate range and temperature region. Complete load-deflection analysis allows the engineer to formulate, design, process, and assemble a product having improved, reliable functional performance.

Download or read book Reinforced and Nonreinforced Reaction Injection Molding Machines for Production of Polyurethane Specimens for Material Development, Evaluation, and Quality Control written by FW. Schneider and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper describes the principle of metering and impingement mixing of reaction injection molding (RIM) reactants. Efficient mixing is achieved at turbulent mixing conditions in the mixing chamber. Key factor is the Reynolds' number of the system, depending on the viscosities of the reactants, design, and size of the mixing device, arrangement of nozzles, etc. Mixing conditions are discussed at different ratios of reactants, introduction of additional fluid components to the mixing chamber, mixing of reactants with suspended solid fillers in accordance to reinforced reaction injection molding (RRIM) and lead lag phenomena. The basic requirements for the reactants are outlined for successful processing in accordance to the impingement principle, control of rheology of the initial mixture, effect of air loading, solid fillers, and aftermixing devices. The principles of some RIM and RRIM machines are demonstrated by examples as well as available laboratory RIM and RRIM machines with mold arrangements for the production of specimens under realistic conditions for material development and evaluation, followed by guidelines for aftermixer designs and gate configurations.

Book Synopsis Multiphase Flow in Polymer Processing by : Chang Han
Download or read book Multiphase Flow in Polymer Processing written by Chang Han and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multiphase Flow in Polymer Processing focuses on dispersed and stratified multiphase flow in polymer processing. This book explores the rheological behavior of multiphase (or multicomponent) polymeric systems as they are involved in various fabrication operations. It also outlines the importance of the morphological states of multiphase polymeric systems to explain the systems, rheological behavior in the fluid state, and mechanical behavior in the solid state. This monograph consists of eight chapters divided into two parts. After discussing dispersed and stratified multiphase flow in polymer processing, it introduces the reader to the fundamentals of rheology. The following chapters focus on the rheological behavior of particulate-filled polymeric systems and heterogeneous polymeric systems; the phenomenon of droplet breakup in dispersed flow; and gas-charged polymeric systems. The role of the discrete phase (that is, solid particles, liquid droplets, gas bubbles) in determining the bulk rheological properties of the multiphase system is highlighted, along with some representative polymer processing operations (namely, fiber spinning and injection molding) of the multiphase (or multicomponent) polymeric systems. Coextrusion in cylindrical, rectangular, and annular dies is also considered. The final chapter is devoted to the phenomenon of interfacial instability in coextrusion. This text will be a useful resource for chemists, chemical engineers, and those in the polymer processing industry.
