Book Synopsis Issues in the Governance of Central Banks by :
Download or read book Issues in the Governance of Central Banks written by and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report by the Central Bank Governance Group presents information intended to help decision-makers set up governance arrangements that are most suitable for their own circumstances. The report draws on a large body of information on the design and operation of central banks that the BIS has brought together since it initiated work on central bank governance in the early 1990s. The need to deal with chronic inflation in the 1970s and 1980s prompted the identification of price stability as a formal central bank objective and led to a significant reworking of governance arrangements. The current global financial crisis could have equally important implications for central banks, particularly with respect to their role in fostering financial stability. Although it is too early to know how central banking will change as a result, the report takes an important first step in identifying governance questions that the crisis poses.
Download or read book Zaire written by Dawn Elaine Bastian and published by Oxford, England : Clio Press. This book was released on 1995 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Zaire remains a relatively unknown country, despite the fact that it is one of the largest and most geopolitically strategic nations in Africa and has played a significant role in recent African and international affairs. Europeans first arrived in the area when the Portuguese explored the Congo River Basin in 1483. Isolated from developments in other parts of Africa until the mid-1950s, Zairians subsequently became conscious of the liberation struggles taking place in neighbouring countries and finally gained full independence themselves in 1960.
Book Synopsis Monetary Policy in Interdependent Economies by : Ioanna T. Kokores
Download or read book Monetary Policy in Interdependent Economies written by Ioanna T. Kokores and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-10-04 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the challenges faced by central banks in the aftermath of the global financial crisis and the events that followed. It further emphasises the asymmetries in the transmission of monetary policy in the Eurozone economies and among major advanced economies. The book also highlights the advances in the monetary policy debate towards an efficient resource allocation. The author argues that the canonical model of macroeconomic stabilization, which assigns the main burden of stabilization to monetary policy, is outdated primarily because of the absence of financial frictions. Further, she highlights the urgency of pushing risky activities outside the perimeters of regulation in face of rapidly evolving financial markets. The book provides an analytical framework in the context of intense globalisation and increased interdependence across economies, irrespective of the recent re-examining of supply-chains and trade relationships, as well as a policy framework thoroughly amended after the global financial crisis and the crises that followed it. Presenting policy proposals, the book discusses how policymakers must try to develop a set of policies that the public will have confidence in and take into account in forming expectations about future inflation and spending. It will be useful to central banking practitioners, monetary and fiscal policymakers, as well as students and scholars in economics and, in particular, financial economics.
