Book Synopsis European Competition Law Annual 2011 by : Philip Lowe
Download or read book European Competition Law Annual 2011 written by Philip Lowe and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2014-11-01 with total page 640 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains papers presented at the 16th Annual EU Competition Law and Policy Workshop, held at the European University Institute on 17-18 June 2011. This edition of the Workshop examined the emerging and increasingly important use of private rights of action before national courts, and the prospects for legislation and soft law initiatives at the level of the EU. The book has been updated and reflects the European Commission's private enforcement package of June 2013. Furthermore, the experiences of various national jurisdictions are discussed, both within Europe and in the US and Canada. As a whole, the volume explores how public and private enforcement might function harmoniously, as an 'integrated' system, to promote the public interest while ensuring that individual rights created in this field by the EU competition rules are vindicated. The contributors have, however, devoted significant analysis to the tensions between those two modes of enforcement. Authors contributing to this book include: Enno Ahlenstiel Donald Baker Jochen Burrichter Horst Butz Scott Campbell Brian Facey Tristan Feunteun Ian Forrester Andrew Foster Andrew Gavil Barry Hawk James Keyte Assimakis Komninos Bruno Lasserre Frédéric Louis Mel Marquis Veljko Milutinovic Luis Silva Morais Tom Ottervanger Silvia Pietrini Mark Powell John Ratliff J Thomas Rosch David Rosner Mario Siragusa James Venit

Download or read book Japanese Law written by Hiroshi Oda and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2021-03-11 with total page 545 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers an up-to-date and comprehensive reference to Japanese law with a primary focus on private law, including commercial and business-related laws such as corporate law, contract law, and competition law. It also covers a wide range of related topics, such as the protection of human rights, systems of dispute settlement, and criminal law and procedure. Fully updated and revised, this fourth edition expands on the major reforms and substantial changes Japanese law has gone through since the 1990s and analyses the successes and failures of implemented changes in light of developments since the third edition (2009), by referring to new amendments, judgements, and Supreme Court cases. Providing clear guidance and detailed analysis to help demystify Japanese law, this book is an essential reference work for all who have an interest in Japanese law.

Book Synopsis Intellectual Property Rights by : Nikolaus Thumm
Download or read book Intellectual Property Rights written by Nikolaus Thumm and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the result of the PhD project I started four years ago at Europa-Kolleg Hamburg. I had the great opportunity to work on it for one year at the European University Institute in Florence and to finalise the oeuvre during my stay with the European Commission's Institute for Prospective Technological Studies in Seville. The subject matter of the book is intellectual property rights, patents in particular, and their process of harmonisation in Europe. At the beginning of the work, the intention was not to focus immediately on one narrow field in the huge realm of intellectual property rights but rather to open my mind in order to capture a broad variety of new ideas and concepts in the book. The work at three different institutes in three different European countries over the period of four years naturally exposed the work to diverging ideas and the exchange of views with many people. This is one reason for the wide spread of topics ordered around the given leitmotif, such as epistemological foundations, political background information,. the protection of biotechnological inventions and the building up process of intellectual property right systems in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. In chapter two I take up Polanyi's differentiation of codifiable and tacit knowledge. Applying these concepts to my own work I realise that this book is only the visible and codified part of knowledge I was able to capture.
