This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This meeting on "Miniaturization of High Energy Physics Detectors" had two principal aims: on the one hand to offer a Danoramic view, as comprehensive as possible, of this new field whose increasing interest can be understood by means of the justified hope to reach completely unconventional experimental aDparata for high energy physics in a short time: on the other hand to search for sufficient and, if Dossible, more advanced solutions to reduce the present (but more and more the future) gigantic experimental apparatuses to human dimensions. It is the conviction of this Organizing Committee that the first aim has been successfully achieved but for the second one there is still much to do; and so in the near future we foresee a new collective thinking over the progress in this field. Apologising for the delayed publication of these proceedings, due to technical reasons, the Organizing Committee thanks Prof. R. Favilli, Magnifico Rettore of the Pisa University, for his precious contribution to the realisation of the meeting and L. Bulleri, the Mayor of Pisa, for the warm welcome to the participants.

Book Synopsis Leptons And Quarks (Special Edition Commemorating The Discovery Of The Higgs Boson) by : Lev Borisovich Okun
Download or read book Leptons And Quarks (Special Edition Commemorating The Discovery Of The Higgs Boson) written by Lev Borisovich Okun and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2014-04-29 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book “Leptons and Quarks” was first published in the early 1980s, when the program of the experimental search for the intermediate bosons W and Z and Higgs boson H was formulated. The aim and scope of the present extended edition of the book, written after the experimental discovery of the Higgs boson in 2012, is to reflect the various stages of this 30+ years search. Along with the text of the first edition of “Leptons and Quarks” it contains extracts from a number of books published by World Scientific and an article from “On the concepts of vacuum and mass and the search for higgs” available from www.worldscientific.com/worldscinet/mpla or from arxiv.org/abs/1212.1031.The book is unique in communicating the Electroweak Theory at a basic level and in connecting the concept of Lorenz invariant mass with the concept of the Extended Standard Model, which includes gravitons as the carriers of gravitational interaction.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second Advanced Study Institute (ASI) on Techniques and Concepts of High Energy Physics was held at the Roaring Brook Resort at Lake George, New York. As in the case of the first ASI, our aim was to bring together a small group of promising young ex perimenters and several outstanding senior scholars in high energy physics in order to learn about the latest trends in the field and develop stronger contacts among scientists from different countries and different backgrounds. The setting at Roaring Brook was particularly congenial and the staff, under the direction of George Green, was both friendly and efficient. The ASI was supported mainly through funds provided by the Scientific Affairs Division of NATO. It was cosponsored by the U. S. Department of Energy, Fermilab, the National Science Founda tion and the University of Rochester. A special grant from the Oliver S. and Jennie R. Donaldson Charitable Trust provided a valuable degree of flexibility for supporting worthy students. The scientific program of this ASI was, once again, designed primarily for advanced graduate students and recent Ph.D recipients in experimental particle physics. I believe, however, that the contents of the present volume will prove useful to an even wider audience of physicists.
