This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 850 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This special issue of ZAMP is published to honor Paul M. Naghdi for his contributions to mechanics over the last forty years and more. It is offered in celebration of his long, productive career in continuum mechan ics; a career which has been marked by a passion for the intrinsic beauty of the subject, an uncompromising adherence to academic standards, and an untiring devotion to our profession. Originally, this issue was planned in celebration of Naghdi's 70th birthday, which occurred on 29 March 1994. But, as the papers were being prepared for the press, it became evident that the illness from which Professor Naghdi had been suffering during recent months was extremely serious. On 26 May 1994, a reception took place in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Berkeley, at which Naghdi received The Berkeley Citation (which is given in lieu of an honorary degree) and where he was also presented with the Table of Contents of the present collection. Subse quently, he had the opportunity to read the papers in manuscript form. He was very touched that his colleagues had chosen to honor him with their fine contributions. The knowledge that he was held in such high esteem by his fellow scientists brought a special pleasure and consolation to him in his last weeks. On Saturday evening, 9 July 1994, Paul Naghdi succumbed to the lung cancer which he had so courageously endured.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work gives for the first time an interdisciplinary and deep approach to the mathematical modelling of rubber-like materials considering both the molecular and phenomenological point of views. It contains an introduction to the suitable numerical techniques and an overview of experimental techniques and data with a short survey on some industrial applications. Elastic and inelastic effects are discussed in details. The book is suitable for applied mathematicians, mechanical engineers, civil engineers, material scientists and polymer scientists.
Book Synopsis A Guide to the Literature on High-velocity Metalworking by : D. E. Strohecker
Download or read book A Guide to the Literature on High-velocity Metalworking written by D. E. Strohecker and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report is a guide to the literature on high-velocity metalworking. It consists primarily of abstracts of articles, reports, books, and current research projects on and related to high-velocity metalworking arranged according to technical subject. It covers a survey of the reported work in the field up to about October of 1962. Abstracts of over 700 references have been arranged by subject matter, with cross indexing between subjects. There is also an author index. The eleven major subjects and categories covered in the report are: (1) Energy Sources, (2) Energy Transfer Mediums, (3) Facility Requirements, (4) Tooling Requirements, (5) Equipment Requirements, (6) Forming, (7) Hardening, (8) Explosive Welding, (9) Powder Compaction, (10) Metal Removal, and (11) Material Behavior.

Book Synopsis Electrodynamics of Continua II by : A.Cemal Eringen
Download or read book Electrodynamics of Continua II written by A.Cemal Eringen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the second volume of a two-volume set presenting a unified approach to the electrodynamics of continua, based on the principles of contemporary continuum of physics. The first volume was devoted mainly to the development of the theory and applications to deformable solid media. This volume extends the developments of the first volume to richer and newer grounds. It contains discussions on fluid media, magnetohydrodynamics, eletrohydrodynamics and media with more complicated structures. With the discussion, in the last two chapters, of memory-dependent materials and non-local E-M theory, the authors account for the nonlocal effects arising from motions and fields of material points at past times and at spatially distant points. This discussion is included here to stimulate further research in these important fields, which are presently in development stages. The second volume is self-contained and can be studied without the help of volume I. A section summarizing the constitutive equations and the underlying physical ideas, which were presented in more detail in the first volume, is included. This volume may be used as a basis for several graduate courses in engineering schools, applied mathematics and physics departments. It also contains fresh ideas and will stimulate further research in the directions the authors outline.

Book Synopsis Structural Deflections by : Theodore V. Galambos
Download or read book Structural Deflections written by Theodore V. Galambos and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A literature survey and state-of-the-art study was complied using 233 primary source documents, research papers, and texts. Over 800 documents were scanned to arrive at the primary source documents. The problem of structural deflections is discussed and reviewed in its component areas of static and dynamic deflections as related to forcing functions and structural characteristics. Also the interactions of major structural dflections with building structures subsystems and human occupants is reviewed. Emphasis is placed on serviceability limit states of deflections. Detailed comparisons of human response to structural vibrations are also made. The report is broad in scope and covers the areas of analysis, design and experimentation. (Author).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although the subject of wave propagation in solids has a long history, the classical theory of elastic waves having been developed in the nine teenth century by STOKES, POISSON, RAYLEIGH and KELVIN, the last two decades have seen a remarkable revival of interest in this subject among both theoreticians and experimenters. There' are a number of reasons for this; first, experimental methods for the generation and detection of high frequency mechanical waves have become available only with the advent of electronic techniques and of high speed photo graphic recording apparatus. Secondly, the appearan
