Download or read book Proceedings of the 12th Reinventing Space Conference written by Scott Hatton and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-12-25 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The proceedings of the 2014 Reinventing Space conference present a number of questions in the context of a constantly innovating space industry, from addressing the future of global cooperation, investigating the impact of cuts in US government spending on the private space sector, and probing the overall future of the commercial launch sector. Space tourism and new technology promise the revival of interest in space development (the Apollo Era was the first period of intense space activity and growth). The need to create dramatically lower cost, responsive and reliable launch systems and spacecraft has never been more vital. Advances in technology are allowing smaller and cheaper satellites to be orbited - from cubesats to nanosatellites to femtosatellites. Thanks to more efficient new launch possibilities, low cost access to space is becoming ever more achievable. Commercial companies and countries are targeting the industry with new funding. Organised by the British Interplanetary Society, the presentations at this conference thoroughly address these challenges and opportunities.

Book Synopsis The Law of Outer Space by : Tanja L. Masson-Zwaan
Download or read book The Law of Outer Space written by Tanja L. Masson-Zwaan and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2010-09-10 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is a remarkable achievement to write a book that almost four decades after its publication has lost virtually none of its relevance. Manfred Lachs’ famous treatise on the Law of Outer Space was originally published in 1972, yet it is still a classic and must-read text for space law students today, even though copies can nowadays be rarely found. The reissue of this remarkable work is therefore timely indeed. Its aim is to make the brilliance, foresight and clarity of Lachs’ thinking once more easily accessible to a new generation of scholars. Issued on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the International Institute of Space Law, of which Lachs was President, this volume reproduces the original text of Lachs' work in full, with a new preface, introduction and index supplied by the editors.

Book Synopsis Global Space Governance: An International Study by : Ram S. Jakhu
Download or read book Global Space Governance: An International Study written by Ram S. Jakhu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-09-12 with total page 784 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is based on the findings, conclusions and recommendations of the Global Space Governance study commissioned by the 2014 Montreal Declaration that called upon civil society, academics, governments, the private sector, and other stakeholders to undertake an international interdisciplinary study. The study took three years to complete. It examines the drivers of space regulations and standards, key regulatory problems, and especially addresses possible improvements in global space governance. The world's leading experts led the drafting of chapters, with input from academics and knowledgeable professionals in the public and private sectors, intergovernmental organizations, and nongovernmental organizations from all the regions of the world with over 80 total participants. This book and areas identified for priority action are to be presented to the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space and it is hoped will be considered directly or indirectly at the UNISPACE+50 event in Vienna, Austria, in 2018. The report, a collective work of all the contributors, includes objective analysis and frank statements expressed without pressure of political, national, and occupational concerns or interest. It is peer-reviewed and carefully edited to ensure its accuracy, preciseness, and readability. It is expected that the study and derivative recommendations will form the basis for deliberations and decisions at international conferences and meetings around the world on the theme of global space governance. This will hopefully include future discussion at the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space.

Download or read book To Infinity And Beyond? written by Noel Jackson Therattil and published by Ukiyoto Publishing. This book was released on 2022-08-04 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As humankind takes flight to become an interplanetary species it is still to delineate the limits of sovereignty in the vertical plane. What may seem as a legal quibble is in fact irrevocably intertwined with politics and science. This book seeks to breakdown the complexities surrounding the delimitation of outer space and proposes a solution that would be conducive to aerospace activities. It explores the various theories that have been suggested, from the absurd to the deceivingly simple. This book argues that a method to delimit outer space need not be alien to established jurisprudence. Importantly, it conveys these ideas lucidly to make it intelligible to the enthusiast and lawyer alike. Can we as a species truly make space the “common heritage of mankind”?
Book Synopsis How High the Sky? by : Thomas Gangale
Download or read book How High the Sky? written by Thomas Gangale and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2018-11-26 with total page 667 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In How High the Sky?, jurist Thomas Gangale explores the oldest and most important controversy in space law: how far up does national airspace go, and where does the international environment of outer space begin? Even though nations did not object to the first satellites flying over their sovereign territory, after more than six decades there is still no international agreement on how low the right of space object overflight extends, nor are there agreed legal definitions of “space object” and “space activity.” Dr. Gangale brings his background as an aerospace engineer to bear in exploding long-held beliefs of the legal community, and he offers a draft international convention to settle the oldest and most intractable problems in space law.
Book Synopsis The Use of Airspace and Outer Space for all Mankind in the 21st Century by : Chia-Jui Cheng
Download or read book The Use of Airspace and Outer Space for all Mankind in the 21st Century written by Chia-Jui Cheng and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-07-24 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The very nature of international air transportation and outer space activities means that they have an international perspective. This is more evident today than at any time in the past, due to the intensification of trans-boundary trade, the internationalization of the division of work and the acceleration of technological progress. The Asian Institute of Air and Space Law, the Graduate School of Law, Soochow University, Taipei, the International Institute of Air and Space Law, Leiden University, and the Institute of Air and Space Law, McGill University, have instituted international conferences in order to provide a world platform for eminent specialists and scholars. The Tokyo Conference, upon which this excellent collection of papers is based, was concerned with a wide range of legal and practical questions arising from regulatory developments in international air transportation and in the exploration, exploitation and use of outer space and celestial bodies. The main topics of deliberation were: megacarriers in the 21st century, the need to revise the Bermuda Capacity Formula and the Chicago Convention, liability and responsibility in international aviation, safety, security and environment, airline industry competition, legal and political aspects of space transportation and manned space flights, the protection of the space environment and dispute settlement in air and space law. They are discussed in this volume with unparalleled authority.
