Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a timely, interdisciplinary scientific overview of the atmosphere, the ocean and the land surface as it interacts with physical, chemical and biological processes. The high level of detail sets it apart from other studies of monsoon meteorology. The text includes analysis of paleoclimate records, human influences on the monsoon climate and the economic impacts of the monsoon on economies and to human health.

Download or read book Monsoons over China written by Ding Yihui and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 431 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The monsoon over China is one of the major components of the general circulation on a global basis. Its activity be ars a significant regional implication in East Asia and Southeast Asia. Recently, the remarkable relationship and teleconnection between this part of the monsoon and other regions over the world have been revealed. However, little of the overall picture of monsoons over China is known by meteorologists in English-speaking countries. This monograph provides the first opportunity to extensively introduce this subject and give a comprehensive and systematic description of the major aspects of monsoons over China, with a special emphasis on the fluctuations of the monsoon on various scales and the effects of the Tibetan Plateau on the monsoon. Much highly original material and achievements Chinese and Western meteorologists have made from the past 20 years have been incorporated with a unifying approach. In each chapter, the observational and theoretical (including modelling) treatment will be closely combined in order to fully illustrate the relevent problems. The unique thermal and dynamical effects of the Tibetan Plateau on the monsoon circulation features wh ich are one of the central problems of the Asian monsoon are highlights of this monograph. Researchers in meteorology and weather forecasters should find this book a very useful introduction to monsoons over China, not only for its systematic treatment of the subject, but also because of its considerable historical information. This mono graph is equally suitable for graduates or more advanced students in meteorology, hydrology, and oceanography.
Book Synopsis Some Aspects of the Onset of the Summer Monsoon Over Southeast Asia by : M. M. Orgill
Download or read book Some Aspects of the Onset of the Summer Monsoon Over Southeast Asia written by M. M. Orgill and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 75 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The following aspects of the onset of the monsoon over Southeast Asia have been investigated: (1) definition of the onset of the summer monsoon and determination of calendar dates of onsets; (2) role of tropical cyclones during the onset of the summer monsoon; (3) seasonal changes in the upper air circulation over Asia during onsets, and possible differences between late and early onset years; and (4) influence of seasonal heating and changes in the thermodynamic structure of the atmosphere during onsets. The onset of the summer monsoon over Southeast Asia was defined by an abrupt fracture of the equatorial shearline at 10,000 feet, which allows equatorial (monsoon) westerlies to penetrate northward into southern China. The 29-year mean calendar date of this seasonal event was generally established at 17 May with a range of 33 days. Differential heating of land and ocean areas and tropical cyclogenesis in the Bay of Bengal are the principal starting mechanisms of the summer monsoon; however, certain extratropical circulation features are contributing factors. Tropical cyclones, through converting latent heat to sensible heat and potential energy, may at times modify the tropospheric environment producing favorable thermal and dynamic conditions for the establishment of the summer monsoon circulation over Southeast Asia.

Book Synopsis The Asian Monsoon by : Peter D. Clift
Download or read book The Asian Monsoon written by Peter D. Clift and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2008-05-29 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Asian monsoon is one of the most dramatic climatic phenomena on Earth, with far reaching environmental and societal effects. Almost two thirds of humanity lives within regions influenced by the monsoon. With the emerging Asian economies, the importance of the region to the global economy has never been more marked. The Asian Monsoon describes the evolution of the monsoon, and proposes a connection between the tectonic evolution of the solid Earth and monsoon intensity. The authors explain how the monsoon has been linked to orbital processes and thus to other parts of the global climate system, especially glaciation. Finally, they summarize how monsoon evolution since the last Ice Age has impacted human societies, as well as commenting on the potential impact of future climate change. This book presents a multi-disciplinary overview of the monsoon for advanced students and researchers in atmospheric science, climatology, oceanography, geophysics, and geomorphology.

This book was released on 1966 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development of an objective method for forecasting the onsets of precipitation episodes during the summery monosoon season in Southeast Asia is described. The system is baded upon the hypothesized interaction between the middle latitude westerlies and the tropical monosoonal circulation. Results of a verification experiment are presented together with suggestions for utilizing the procedure in the scheduling of weather-sensitive operations in the area. (Author).

Book Synopsis Rainfall Patterns Associated with Monsoon Disturbances Over Southeastern Asia by : Montie M. Orgill
Download or read book Rainfall Patterns Associated with Monsoon Disturbances Over Southeastern Asia written by Montie M. Orgill and published by . This book was released on 1966* with total page 51 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this investigation is to examine the rainfall distribution, diurnal variation of precipitation, mesoscale systems, and orographic effects associated with two monsoon disturbances over the Southeast Asia region. The storm sample consists of eighteen surface cyclones and twelve 500 mb cyclones which developed over, or in, the vicinity of Southeast Asia during the 1961, 1962, and 1963 summer monsoon seasons. Some fifty hourly rain gage stations within the Lower Mekong River Basin provided a sizeable amount of hourly precipitation data which was plotted and analyzed with respect to the storm center, with the assistance of a special grid.
