Book excerpt: This is an open access book.Sustainable Collaboration in Business, Technology, Information and InnovationSCBTII 2023: “Preserving the Sustainability of Business in Accelerated Digital Transformation and Transition Collide”The COVID-19 pandemic had dealt a devastating blow to the SDGs, which were already off track before the pandemic forced the closure of schools, government services and workplaces worldwide. The pandemic erased more than four years of progress in eradicating poverty and pushing millions into extreme poverty. On the other hand, digital transformation rapidly creates a world of ever-faster technological developments. In response, every business must think of itself as a tech business. Companies need to re-design their processes and ensure their people have the skills needed for a world where we increasingly collaborate and work alongside capable and intelligent machines. Unfortunately, the war in Ukraine has accelerated the schism and confrontation between the major global powers. Another point of tension is the US–China relations joining the trade, technological, economic, and geostrategic competition. This year will be more significant. But the world business before us is not divided into two concrete blocks. Instead, a full-scale reconfiguration of alliances is underway, which forces all other actors to reposition themselves about the new strategic competition dynamics and to seek out their own spaces in a global transformation. On the other hand, the green and the digital transitions, which seemed to work hand in hand towards building a more sustainable world, have collided. Against this backdrop, universities, as academic institutions, play an essential role in educating and providing professional human resources and conducting high-quality research that benefits humanity. However, universities must take a more significant part and be innovative and creative in engaging and supporting the development opportunities and consolidation of the Global community. To embark on this role effectively, universities must always foster communication and discussion among academicians, scholars, practitioners, and policymakers under the Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs). Academia, Government, Business, and Communities must increasingly cooperate to achieve academic and research excellence and constructive solutions to current business and economic issues. Sustainable Collaboration in Business, Information, and Innovation (SCBTII) 2023 is an international conference that brings together academics, professionals, entrepreneurs, researchers, learners, and other associated groups from all over the world that is interested in theories, as well as practices in the field of the digital economy for global competitiveness. This conference provides opportunities for presenters and participants to exchange new ideas and experiences, create research relationships, and find international partners for future collaboration to respond to economy, business, social and technological development challenges successfully and effectively for better life well-being.

Book excerpt: The edited volume presents the conference proceedings from the “Sustainability, Economics, Innovation, Globalisation and Operational Psychology Conference 2023” (SEIGOP 2023), organized by the Centre for International Trade and Business in Asia (CITBA) at James Cook University, Singapore. This edited volume places the highly dynamic, but also, jeopardized climatological – geographical region of the Tropics centre stage. The region is developing rapidly, with significant progress being made through the development of innovative technologies. The Tropics represent a region in which people live amid the greatest level of biodiversity anywhere on the planet. Nonetheless, propelled by rapid population growth, the Tropics is a region on the rise, with higher living standards and increased levels of international trade and investment. Densely populated emerging countries like India, Indonesia and Nigeria will be among the largest economies of the world by the end of the century. These upward socioeconomic trends are compromised by the impact of climate change on the Tropics’ biodiversity. Such developments have forced policymakers, businesses, and local communities to search for more sustainable and creative ways to live and work. For these reasons, this edited volume presents theory-driven conceptual, qualitative, quantitative and mixed-methods studies on the impact of innovation-driven businesses on the complex interplay of socio-cultural, economic, and environmental factors in the Tropics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents selected contributions from the 2018 conference of the International Schumpeter Society (ISS). The selected chapters in this volume reflect the state-of-the-art of Schumpeterian economics dedicated to the three conference topics innovation, catch-up, and sustainability. Innovation is driving catch-up processes and is the condition for a transformation towards higher degrees of sustainability. Therefore, Schumpeterian economics has to play a key role in these most challenging fields of human societies’ development in the 21st century. The three topics are well suited to capture the great variety of issues, which have the potential to shape the scientific discussion in economics and related disciplines in the years to come. The presented contributions show the broadness and high standard of Schumpeterian analysis. The ideas of dynamics, heterogeneity, novelty, and innovation as well as transformation are the most attractive fields in economics today and offer the most prolific interdisciplinary connections now and for the years to come when humankind, our global society, has to master the transition towards sustainable economic systems by solving the grand challenges and wicked problems with which we are confronted today. Therefore, the book is a must-read for scholars, researchers, and students, interested in a better understanding of innovation, catch-up, and sustainability, and Schumpeterian economics in general. The chapter “Industrial life cycle: relevance of national markets in the development of new industries for energy technologies – the case of wind energy” is available open access under a CC BY 4.0 License via link.springer.com.

Book excerpt: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals are a global commitment to "transforming our world" and eradicating poverty in all its forms everywhere. The challenge now is to put this vision into action. Policy Innovations for Transformative Change, the UNRISD 2016 Flagship Report, helps unpack the complexities of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda in a unique way: by focusing on the innovations and pathways to policy change, and analysing which policies and practices will lead to social, economic and ecological justice. Drawing on numerous policy innovations from the South, the report goes beyond buzzwords and brings to the development community a definition of transformation which can be used as a benchmark for policy making toward the 2030 Agenda, intended to "leave no one behind". Bringing together five years of UNRISD research across six areas--social policy, care policy, social and solidarity economy, eco-social policy, domestic resource mobilization, and politics and governance--the report explores what transformative change really means for societies and individuals.

This theme was formulated due to several considerations. First, the symptoms of moral decline that have the potential to destroy the nation. Morals guide humanity towards truth and civilization. The phenomenon of the dehumanization process in the industrial era that pushed people to be part of abstract societies tends to ignore humanity. The education process as a humanitarian system is increasingly marginalized, especially during discussions about the industrial revolution 4.0 and Society 5.0. The conference placed six sub-themes for speakers and participants to share ideas, namely: Social Sciences and Laws, History and Cultural Studies, Interdisciplinary Studies, Morals and Humanities, Policy, Politics, and Communication, Education. The committee has received 195 abstracts from prospective speakers. However, there are only 80 abstracts that are eligible to be presented at this conference.
