Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This state-of-the-practice report on the design and development of roads and airfields is the eighth monograph in a series prepared by the Technical Council on Cold Regions Engineering of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Previous reports in the series covered such topics as frost action and its control embankment design, and arctic coastal processes. This book discusses such topics as: 1) Route-location/siting; 2) frost action; 3) design for permafrost conditions; 4) low temperature cracking; 5) maintenance; 6) use of geosynthetics; and 7) materials specifications and testing. This monograph contributes a substantial amount of new material to the Cold Regions Engineering series.

Book Synopsis Methods to Achieve Rut-resistant Durable Pavements by : Gerald A. Huber
Download or read book Methods to Achieve Rut-resistant Durable Pavements written by Gerald A. Huber and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1999 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis report will be of interest to state, local, and federal agency pavement materials, design, and construction engineers, as well as pavement research engineers and scientists. Those with supervisory oversight for pavement programs will also find it of interest. It describes the current practice for methods to achieve rut-resistant durable pavements. The synthesis documents current experience with permanent deformation of asphalt pavements and identifies methods to improve performance. Information for the synthesis was collected by surveying U.S. and Canadian transportation agencies and by conducting a literature search using domestic and international sources. This report of the Transportation Research Board describes the extent of the rutting problem on the National Highway System, pavement mixture design issues, and the design of rut-resistant mixtures. In addition, alternate mixture types, including stone matrix asphalt and porous asphalt, are discussed, as well as international approaches to mixture design. Finally, the construction of rut-resistant mixtures, including the role of quality control and quality assurance methods, are discussed. A summary of permanent deformation causes and solutions is included in the appendix.

Book Synopsis 8th RILEM International Conference on Mechanisms of Cracking and Debonding in Pavements by : Armelle Chabot
Download or read book 8th RILEM International Conference on Mechanisms of Cracking and Debonding in Pavements written by Armelle Chabot and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-05-25 with total page 774 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the latest advances in research to analyze mechanical damage and its detection in multilayer systems. The contents are linked to the Rilem TC241 - MCD scientific activities and the proceedings of the 8th RILEM International Conference on Mechanisms of Cracking and Debonding in Pavements (MCD2016). MCD2016 was hosted by Ifsttar and took place in Nantes, France, on June 7-9, 2016. In their lifetime, pavements undergo degradation due to different mechanisms of which cracking is among the most important ones. The damage and the fracture behavior of all its material layers as well as interfaces must be understood. In that field, the research activities aims to develop a deeper fundamental understanding of the mechanisms responsible for cracking and debonding in asphalt concrete and composite (e.g. asphalt overlays placed on PCC or thin cement concrete overlay placed on asphalt layer) pavement systems.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Functional Pavement Design is a collections of 186 papers from 27 different countries, which were presented at the 4th Chinese-European Workshops (CEW) on Functional Pavement Design (Delft, the Netherlands, 29 June-1 July 2016). The focus of the CEW series is on field tests, laboratory test methods and advanced analysis techniques, and cover analysis, material development and production, experimental characterization, design and construction of pavements. The main areas covered by the book include: - Flexible pavements - Pavement and bitumen - Pavement performance and LCCA - Pavement structures - Pavements and environment - Pavements and innovation - Rigid pavements - Safety - Traffic engineering Functional Pavement Design is for contributing to the establishment of a new generation of pavement design methodologies in which rational mechanics principles, advanced constitutive models and advanced material characterization techniques shall constitute the backbone of the design process. The book will be much of interest to professionals and academics in pavement engineering and related disciplines.
