Book Synopsis A Design Space for Pervasive Advertising on Public Displays by : Florian Alt
Download or read book A Design Space for Pervasive Advertising on Public Displays written by Florian Alt and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2013-03-01 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today, people living in cities see up to 5000 ads per day, many on public displays. More and more of these public displays are networked and equipped with sensors, making them part of a global infrastructure that is currently emerging. Such displays provide the opportunity to create a benefit for society in the form of immersive experiences and relevant content. In this way, they can overcome the display blindness that evolved over the years. Two main reasons prevent this vision from coming true: first, public displays are stuck with traditional advertising as the driving business model. Second, no common ground exists for researchers or advertisers that outline important challenges. The main contribution of this thesis is presenting a design space for advertising on public displays that identifies important challenges - mainly from an HCI perspective. The results are envisioned to provide a basis for future research and for practitioners to shape future advertisements on public displays in a positive way.

Book Synopsis Institutional Literacies by : Stuart A. Selber
Download or read book Institutional Literacies written by Stuart A. Selber and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Information technologies have become central to all functions of higher education, including writing and communications departments. Understanding how academic IT professionals make decisions, manage projects, and interact with academic departments is key for the faculty, administrators, and staff in those departments. To aid in this understanding, Stuart Selber spent two years embedded in Penn State's Teaching and Learning with Technology unit. His book offers new insights into the practices, attitudes, and assumptions of academic IT professionals and argues that composition faculty should collaborate more closely and engage more deeply with IT staff as composition technology projects are planned, implemented, and expanded. To help them do so, the book offers a three-part heuristic, reflecting the reality that academic IT units are complex and multilayered, with historical, spatial, and textual dimensions"--
Book Synopsis Information Processing and Biological Systems by : Samuli Niiranen
Download or read book Information Processing and Biological Systems written by Samuli Niiranen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-03-10 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Living beings require constant information processing for survival. In cells, information is being processed and propagated at various levels, from the gene regulatory network to chemical pathways, to the interaction with the environment. How this is achieved and how information is coded is still poorly understood. For example, what a cell interprets as information in the temporal level of an mRNA and what is interpreted as noise remains an open question. Recently, information theoretical methods and other tools, developed in the context of engineering and natural sciences, have been applied to study diverse biological processes. This book covers the latest findings on how information is processed in various biological processes, ranging from information processing and propagation in gene regulatory networks to information processing in natural language. An overview is presented of the state-of-the-art in information processing in biological systems and the opinion of current leaders in this research field on future research directions.

Book excerpt: A typical characterization of EuroSPI is reflected in a statement made by a c- pany: “. . . the biggest value of EuroSPI lies in its function as a European knowledge and experience exchange mechanism for SPI and innovation. ” Since its beginning in 1994 in Dublin, the EuroSPI initiative has outlined that there is not a single silver bullet to solve SPI issues, but that you need to understand a c- bination of different SPI methods and approaches to achieve concrete benefits. The- fore each proceedings volume covers a variety of different topics, and at the conf- ence we discuss potential synergies and the combined use of such methods and - proaches. These proceedings contain selected research papers for five topics: Section I: SPI Tools Section II: SPI Methods Section III: SPI in SMEs Section IV: Economic Aspects of SPI Section V: The Future of SPI Section I presents studies on SPI tools. The authors provide an insight into new tools which can be used for SPI. Willem Bekkers et al. present a new assessment method and tool for software product management. Ismael Edrei-Espinosa-Curiel et al. illustrate a graphical approach to support the teaching of SPI. Paul Clarke and coworkers deal with an analysis and a tool to help real adoption of standards like ISO 12207 and they focus on SPI implementation and practices. Esparanca Amengual et al. present a new team-based assessment method and tool.
