Download or read book Electronic Properties of Novel Materials Science and Technology of Molecular Nanostructures, XIII International Winterschool, Held in Kirchberg, Tirol, Austria, in February -March 1999 written by and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present book contains the proceedings of the 13th International Winterschool on Electronic Properties of Novel Materials in Kirchberg, Tirol, Austria. It was held from 27th February to 6th March, 1999 in Hotel Sonnalp. The series of these schools started in 1985. Originally the school was held every second year and was devoted to conducting polymers. After the discovery of high temperature superconductors, the periodicity changed to annual format and the topic alternated between conjugated polymers and superconductors. Since fullerenes are both conjugated compounds and in some cases superconductors, it was tempting to choose fullerenes as topic for the Kirchberg schools. The evident extension of this topic is carbon nanotubes and so the title changed from Fullerenes via Fullerene Derivatives and Fullerene Nanostructures to Molecular Nanostructures. This gradual change enables us to keep a fairly large interdisciplinary scientific community together and to stimulate numerous international cooperations. A compilation of the previous Kirchberg Winterschools will be presented in the table at the end of this preface. The term Molecular Nanostructures implies the "bottom-up" (synthetic) approach, as opposed to the "top-down" (lithography and etching) techniques in semiconductor technology. As for the physics, we are in a field where solid state physics and molecular physics overlap. This is nicely seen on the example of carbon nanotubes. Their diameter is in the order of a few nanometers, and thus perpendicular to their axis, nanotubes are molecular (different diameters lead to different electronic structures), while along their axis they are extended solids.

Most oral contributions to the winterschool were on carbon nanotubes, and there are also three chapters of the proceedings and a large part of the chapter on applications devoted to this topic. The majority of the posters was on fullerenes and fullerides.
Download or read book More than Moore written by Guo Qi Zhang and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-01-23 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the past decades, the mainstream of microelectronics progression was mainly powered by Moore's law focusing on IC miniaturization down to nano scale. However, there is a fast increasing need for "More than Moore" (MtM) products and technology that are based upon or derived from silicon technologies, but do not simply scale with Moore’s law. This book provides new vision, strategy and guidance for the future technology and business development of micro/nanoelectronics.
Book Synopsis Complex Metallic Alloys by : Jean-Marie Dubois
Download or read book Complex Metallic Alloys written by Jean-Marie Dubois and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2010-12-13 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Covering fundamental research as well as real-world applications, this first book on CMAs at an introductory level treats everything from atomistic details to surface processing. Comprehensive, self-contained chapters provide readers with the latest knowledge on the most salient features of the topic, selected in terms of their relevance to potential technological applications. Edited by one of the most distinguished authorities on quasicrystals and this most important of their subclasses, the contributions elucidate aspects of CMAs from a particular viewpoint: physical and chemical characteristics in the sub-nanometer regime, mesoscale phenomena, preparation and processing of thin films, and large-scale engineering properties. The whole is rounded off by a look at the commercial potential of CMA-based applications. For PhD students and lecturers alike.
Book Synopsis Nature, Not Human Activity, Rules the Climate by : Siegfried Fred Singer
Download or read book Nature, Not Human Activity, Rules the Climate written by Siegfried Fred Singer and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the Policymakers Summary of the Nongovernmental International Panel on Climate Change (NIPCC), an international coalition of scientists convened to provide an independent examination of the evidence available on the causes and consequences of climate change in the published, peer-reviewed literature - examined without bias and selectivity. It includes many research papers ignored by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), plus additional scientific results that became available after the IPCC deadline of May 2006. The IPCC is pre-programmed to produce reports to support the hypotheses of anthropogenic warming and the control of greenhouse gases, as envisioned in the Global Climate Treaty. The 1990 IPCC Summary completely ignored satellite data, since they showed no warming. The 1995 IPCC report was notorious for the significant alterations made to the text after it was approved by the scientists - in order to convey the impression of a human influence. The 2001 IPCC report claimed the twentieth century showed 'unusual warming' based on the now-discredited hockey-stick graph. The latest IPCC report, published in 2007, completely devaluates the climate contributions from changes in solar activity, which are likely to dominate any human influence.

Book Synopsis Nanotechnology in Construction by : Peter J M Bartos
Download or read book Nanotechnology in Construction written by Peter J M Bartos and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2007-10-31 with total page 397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The importance of nanotechnology related research and development has become recognised worldwide. Substantial public and private investment is now being ploughed into research and development in a number of industrial sectors, where nanotechnology has become established and has led to new commercial products. The construction industry, having major economic significance with nano-scale research and development which is only emerging, offers a wide scope for exploitation of nanotechnology. With international contributions from experts in the field, Nanotechnology in Construction amalgamates previously fragmented research and emerging trends. It reflects the inherent multi-disciplinary nature of nano-scale research in construction and contributions cover a wide spectrum, from highly scientific investigations to futuristic applications. The book is organised into four broad sections, the first reviews and analyses the prospects of exploitation of nanotechnology in construction, the second discusses novel tools and their capabilities, the final two sections show existing significant products where nanotechnology has been already been exploited or where product development is under-way. Nanotechnology in Construction will appeal to researchers already working in this field as well as those wishing to enter it. It will also inform governmental and other funding agencies of the most promising future directions and their related timescales. Practical applications are considered and explanations of the underlying basics are given, raising awareness and understanding of what nanotechnology can offer to construction professionals in general.
