Book Synopsis Reliability-Based Mechanical Design, Volume 1 by : Xiaobin Le
Download or read book Reliability-Based Mechanical Design, Volume 1 written by Xiaobin Le and published by Morgan & Claypool Publishers. This book was released on 2019-10-09 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A component will not be reliable unless it is designed with required reliability. Reliability-Based Mechanical Design uses the reliability to link all design parameters of a component together to form a limit state function for mechanical design. This design methodology uses the reliability to replace the factor of safety as a measure of the safe status of a component. The goal of this methodology is to design a mechanical component with required reliability and at the same time, quantitatively indicates the failure percentage of the component. Reliability-Based Mechanical Design consists of two separate books: Volume 1: Component under Static Load, and Volume 2: Component under Cyclic Load and Dimension Design with Required Reliability. This book is Reliability-Based Mechanical Design, Volume 1: Component under Static Load. It begins with a brief discussion on the engineering design process and the fundamental reliability mathematics. Then, the book presents several computational methods for calculating the reliability of a component under loads when its limit state function is established. Finally, the book presents how to establish the limit state functions of a component under static load and furthermore how to calculate the reliability of typical components under simple typical static load and combined static loads. Now, we do know the reliability of a component under static load and can quantitively specify the failure percentage of a component under static load. The book presents many examples for each topic and provides a wide selection of exercise problems at the end of each chapter. This book is written as a textbook for junior mechanical engineering students after they study the course of Mechanics of Materials. This book is also a good reference book for design engineers and presents design check methods in such sufficient detail that those methods are readily used in the design check of a component under static load.
Book Synopsis Probability Models in Engineering and Science by : Haym Benaroya
Download or read book Probability Models in Engineering and Science written by Haym Benaroya and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2005-06-24 with total page 770 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Certainty exists only in idealized models. Viewed as the quantification of uncertainties, probabilitry and random processes play a significant role in modern engineering, particularly in areas such as structural dynamics. Unlike this book, however, few texts develop applied probability in the practical manner appropriate for engineers. Probability Models in Engineering and Science provides a comprehensive, self-contained introduction to applied probabilistic modeling. The first four chapters present basic concepts in probability and random variables, and while doing so, develop methods for static problems. The remaining chapters address dynamic problems, where time is a critical parameter in the randomness. Highlights of the presentation include numerous examples and illustrations and an engaging, human connection to the subject, achieved through short biographies of some of the key people in the field. End-of-chapter problems help solidify understanding and footnotes to the literature expand the discussions and introduce relevant journals and texts. This book builds the background today's engineers need to deal explicitly with the scatter observed in experimental data and with intricate dynamic behavior. Designed for undergraduate and graduate coursework as well as self-study, the text's coverage of theory, approximation methods, and numerical methods make it equally valuable to practitioners.

Download or read book A Probabilistic Mechanical Design and Analysis Technique written by Thomas L. Paez and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report summarizes practical procedures for the estimation of structural reliability. Starting from the elementary level, the theories of probability and random processes are reviewed. The concepts underlying reliability analysis are discussed. Reliability analyses of statistically and dynamically loaded structures are discussed. Common assumptions used to make structural reliability analyses executable are given. And a criterion that can be used to determine which structural elements are critical to the reliability of a structure is developed. The reliability analysis computer program, FSR, is discussed and the inputs required to run this program are summarized. The results of some numerical examples are summarized. Recommendations for future work in structural reliability analysis are provided.

This book was released on 2019-10-09 with total page 257 pages. Reliability-Based Mechanical Design consists of two separate books: Volume 1: Component under Static Load, and Volume 2: Component under Cyclic Load and Dimension Design with Required Reliability. This book is Reliability-Based Mechanical Design, Volume 2: Component under Cyclic Load and Dimension Design with Required Reliability. It begins with a systematic description of a cyclic load. Then, the books use two probabilistic fatigue theories to establish the limit state function of a component under cyclic load, and further to present how to calculate the reliability of a component under a cyclic loading spectrum. Finally, the book presents how to conduct dimension design of typical components such as bar, pin, shaft, beam under static load, or cyclic loading spectrum with required reliability. Now, the designed component will be reliable because it has been designed with the required reliability. The book presents many examples for each topic and provides a wide selection of exercise problems at the end of each chapter. This book is written as a textbook for senior mechanical engineering students after they study the course Design of Machine Elements or a similar course. This book is also a good reference for design engineers and presents design methods in such sufficient detail that those methods are readily used in the design.

Book Synopsis Probabilistic Structural Mechanics Handbook by : C.R. Sundararajan
Download or read book Probabilistic Structural Mechanics Handbook written by C.R. Sundararajan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 756 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The need for a comprehensive book on probabilistic structural mechanics that brings together the many analytical and computational methods developed over the years and their applications in a wide spectrum of industries-from residential buildings to nuclear power plants, from bridges to pressure vessels, from steel structures to ceramic structures-became evident from the many discussions the editor had with practising engineers, researchers and professors. Because no single individual has the expertise to write a book with such a di.verse scope, a group of 39 authors from universities, research laboratories, and industries from six countries in three continents was invited to write 30 chapters covering the various aspects of probabilistic structural mechanics. The editor and the authors believe that this handbook will serve as a reference text to practicing engineers, teachers, students and researchers. It may also be used as a textbook for graduate-level courses in probabilistic structural mechanics. The editor wishes to thank the chapter authors for their contributions. This handbook would not have been a reality without their collaboration.
