Book excerpt: Excerpt from Principles of the New Economics The primary purpose of this volume is to integrate the varied developments of recent years in economic thinking, and to relate them to the body of economic ideas which have been evolved through a long history of economic reflection. A number of departures from the orthodox economic doctrines prevalent at the close of the last century have led to the development of several important schools of new economic thought. Each separate school has departed from I the worn and beaten paths of economic theory in ways distinct and peculiar to itself, and each represents an independent and original direction of economic interpretation. I In the early stages of such a movement in economic thinking, it is natural for both the adherents and critics of each branch of the movement to interest themselves in the unique and unusual features of the new doctrines of each independent branch. The stage has been reached, however, when it is of deep importance that the several divergent Ca tendencies in economic interpretation should be integrated in their fundamental relations, The attempt at such an integration takes full cognizance of the many contradictions and inconsistencies between the various branches of thought, but it also acknowledges fully the many basic ways in which the various branches are supplementary and coordinate. The guiding principle of this volume is that the true value of all the independent developments in recent economic thought is realized not merely from a view of each branch of thought by itself, but more completely from a view of the composite evolution in economic thinking. The recent pluralistic progress in economic thinking has a fundamental unity. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Principles of Economics The principal changes in this edition are the following: dividing the chapters so as to make 37 instead of 16 as in the fourth edition; elaborating two or three chapters which were little more than lecture notes; abridging two or three discus sions which belonged rather to monograph literature; dimin ished use of formal principles; increased use of concrete illus trations and a general softening of the style. Disproportio-n and inconsistency have been diminished, but not yet removed. The most significant single change is the starting of the Crit ique of the Present Order with Distribution rather than Pro duction, - a change which naturally led to a complete reorgan ization of this discussion. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Principles of Economics, Vol. 2 The length of the period that has elapsed since the appearance of the first volume of the English version seems to call for an apology on the part of the translator, and he tenders the same herewith. In doing so, he may, perhaps, be allowed to mention two extenuating circumstances. One is, that since the year 1903, when what has come to be known as the Fiscal Question was suddenly Sprung upon the country, the amount of time and energy at his disposal, after satisfying the claims of a very busy Department of the Public Service, has been greatly restricted. The other is, that a considerable portion of the translation had to be done a second time owing to the accidental destruction of a bundle of the completed manuscript during the translator's absence abroad. This book was released on 2017-09-15 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Working Principles of Political Economy in a New and Practical Form: A Book The aim of this book is to give, in small compass, a sufficient view of economic doctrine for the ordinary needs of intelligent citizens. I have had two principal motives in writing it. In the first place, I wished to show that the principles of Political Economy may be developed in such a form as to bring out, more clearly than is done in the standard books, their close and vital connection with every - day industry. In the second place, I wished to suggest some modifications, chiefly in points of detail, of the conclusions commonly accepted hitherto by the leading economists. Book Synopsis Principles of Conflict Economics by : Charles H. Anderton
Download or read book Principles of Conflict Economics written by Charles H. Anderton and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2009-03-16 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Conflict economics contributes to an understanding of violent conflict in two important ways. First, it applies economic analysis to diverse conflict activities such as war, arms races, and terrorism, showing how they can be understood as purposeful choices responsive to underlying incentives. Second, it treats appropriation as a fundamental economic activity, joining production and exchange as a means of wealth acquisition. Drawing on a half-century of scholarship, this book presents a primer on the key themes and principles of conflict economics. Although much work in the field is abstract, the book is made accessible to a broad audience of scholars, students and policymakers by relying on historical data, relatively simple graphs and intuitive narratives. In exploring the interdependence of economics and conflict, the book presents current perspectives of conflict economics in novel ways and offers new insights into economic aspects of violence.

Download or read book Economic Principles (Classic Reprint) written by Alfred William Flux and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-11 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Economic Principles His volume contains hardly any references to the writers who have built up the theories of economics and given them the form which renders them useful in understanding modern economic facts. In omitting these references, my desire has been, not merely to avoid introducing controversies which can only interest students more advanced than those for whom I wrote, but also to retain a freedom of expression which I must have denied myself had I assigned each point of doctrine to those who first, or most clearly, gave it expression. I should like to express my indebtedness to many recent writers, and, if I have given an interpretation of them, here and there, some what different from their own, i trust that I have not lost the essence of their doctrines, so far as I am able to accept them. No Cambridge student of economics in recent years can fail to have gained inspiration from contact with Professor Marshall, and the writer is conscious of a very special obligation to the teacher to whom he owes his chief guidance in economic study. As with others, so especially in this case, the acknow ledgment of inspiration carries with it no attempt to place a burden of responsibility for either the form or the substance of what is written here. Book Synopsis Principles of Economics in a Nutshell by : Lorenzo Garbo
Download or read book Principles of Economics in a Nutshell written by Lorenzo Garbo and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-04-03 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Principles of Economics in a Nutshell provides a succinct overview of contemporary economic theory. This key text introduces economics as a social science, presenting the discipline as an evolving field shaped within historical context rather than a fixed set of ideas. Chapters on microeconomics introduce concepts of scarcity and tradeoffs, market analysis (the Marshallian cross of supply and demand) and the theory of the firm and market structure. Chapters on macroeconomics begin with an explanation of national income accounting, followed by discussions of macroeconomic theory in the goods market and in the money market from both a Keynesian and Classical view. The text concludes with examples of how to expand upon core material, introducing the perspectives of feminist and ecological economics. This book will be of great importance to students new to economics and is ideal for use on single-semester Principles courses or as a primer on economics courses in other settings. The text is fully supported by online resources, which include a set of analytical questions and suggestions for further reading for each chapter.
