Book excerpt: This widely-used text prepares students for entry-level jobs in electronics, electrical trades and related fields. Its level and approach are ideal for both electronics and electricity programs looking for a relatively short, applied book covering DC/AC circuits. Additional chapters on topics such as safety, transformers, motors, instrumentation, and residential wiring are also included. No prior knowledge of electricity is assumed; the only prerequisites are arithmetic and basic algebra. Practical skills are emphasized throughout the text, and supported in the hands-on work provided in the companion Experiments Manual. MultiSim circuit files are provided, on a bound-in CD ROM, for those who want to bring software simulation work into their classes and labs.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Applied Electricity: A Text-Book of Electrical Engineering, for Second Year Students This book is intended as a Text-book of Electrical Engineering for second year students. I define these as students who have already become acquainted with the elementary fundamental principles and laws of Magnetism and Electricity, and who have also a knowledge of the elements of Mechanics, Heat, and Mathematics. It may seem that I am assuming too much for the average student in a Technical Institute, but if he is to gain any really useful knowledge of this subject such preliminary training is absolutely essential. My experience teaches me that students are quite prepared to devote their first year to this preliminary work when the necessity for and the subsequent advantage of it are pointed out. This volume is intended to be a direct "follow-on" to this first year work. In it I have endeavoured to describe the fundamental principles of applied magnetism and electricity, and have been careful to show how the practical applications are related to the phenomena of "pure" science. In fact, I have tried to treat the subject with absolute continuity, so that there shall be no line of demarcation dividing the region of pure from that of applied electricity. But, of course, I have only dealt with those sections of pure science which are connected with modern electrical practice. Wherever it has been possible I have described laboratory experiments in some detail, so that the book will be useful not only as a supplement to a course of lectures but also in the laboratory, where the student may perform the experiments and make determinations himself. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A First Book of Applied Electricity IN this presentation of a few of the elementary principles that underlie the useful applications of electricity and magnetism, reference has been made to the manifestations of electricity which are most often met with in daily life, without first requiring the reader to survey aspects of the subject which, although of ultimate theoretical importance, are not the basis of the applications with which he is already acquainted. For this reason, it has been sought to make the reader familiar with electric currents and their various effects, pointing out how some of these are applied, before he is introduced to electro statics; for it is considered more important for him to think in volts and amperes than in electrostatic units. In a Work of this size, it would have been impossible to enter into details of real electrical engineering practice without unduly restricting the outline of the principles involved. Only the most elementary mathematics are employed, and the object has been more to help to give an under standing of principles than to provide the equipment for the exact calculations which will be of more profit at a later stage when those principles have been mastered. This book was released on 2017-06 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Applied Electricity for Practical Men This volume has been in the process of making during twenty years' experience in teaching Applied Electricity to practical electrical workers; to men who expect to make direct application of the principles given them in the class room to their daily work with commercial circuits and machinery. It is written wholly from the standpoint of the one who puts up and operates electric circuits and apparatus. It does not touch problems of apparatus design. Pure theory is avoided, except as it has direct bearing upon practical matters. The principles stated and the explana tions of apparatus which are ofiered are only such as are necessary in order to present essential elements. They can be elaborated by the instructor as much as he may see fit. Every teacher understands the importance of numerical prob lems in order to make clear the principles and performance of apparatus. It is with this in mind that the set of problems found at the end of each chapter has been made up. Even though the computations demanded in the solution of many of the problems of this book are not required in everyday practical work, it is important to understand how a thing works; and unless one can make a computation regarding it and figure out a numerical result, no clear conceptions have been secured. Book Synopsis Practical Applied Electricity by : David Penn Moreton
Download or read book Practical Applied Electricity written by David Penn Moreton and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-24 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Practical Applied Electricity: A Book in Plain English for the Practical Man, Theory, Practical Applications and Examples This book is intended primarily for those persons who are desirous of obtaining a practical knowledge of the subject of Electricity, but are unable to take a complete course in Electrical Engineering. It is the opinion of the author that such persons should have a thorough understanding of the fundamental principles of the subject, in order that they may easily understand the applications in practice. Numerous examples arc solved throughout the book, which serve to illustrate the practical application of certain laws and principles and give the reader an opportunity to more readily grasp their true significance. The text is based, to a certain extent, upon a series of lectures given in the evening classes in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Armour Institute of Technology. The arrangement is not the one usually followed, and to some it may not appear to be logical; but it is one the author has found very satisfactory. Although the book was not originally intended to be used as a text-book, it is, however, especially adapted for use in the practical courses given in the various High and Manual Training Schools, and at the same time gives a substantial groundwork for the more advanced college and university courses. The author wishes to express his thanks to the various manufacturing companies who have been very kind in supplying material and cuts, and to Professor E. H. Freeman, head of the Department of Electrical Engineering of Armour Institute of Technology, for a number of valuable suggestions.
