This book was released on 2015-08-19 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Los Encuentros by : Julian Martinez Yordan
Download or read book Los Encuentros written by Julian Martinez Yordan and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2012-06 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Rock Art Studies - News of the World by : Natalie R. Franklin
Download or read book Rock Art Studies - News of the World written by Natalie R. Franklin and published by Oxbow Books. This book was released on 2008-08-05 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the third in the five-yearly series of surveys of what is happening in rock art studies around the world. As always, the texts reflect something of the great differences in approach and emphasis that exist in different regions. The volume presents examples from Europe, Asia, Africa, and the New World. During the period in question, 1999 to 2004, there have been few major events, although in the field of Pleistocene art many new discoveries have been made, and a new country added to the select list of those with Ice Age cave art. Some regions such as North Africa and the former USSR have seen a tremendous amount of activity, focusing not only on recording but also on chronology, and the conservation of sites. With the global increase of tourism, the management of rock art sites that are accessible to the public is a theme of ever-growing importance.

Book Synopsis Indigenous Cosmolectics by : Gloria Elizabeth Chacón
Download or read book Indigenous Cosmolectics written by Gloria Elizabeth Chacón and published by UNC Press Books. This book was released on 2018-09-28 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Latin America's Indigenous writers have long labored under the limits of colonialism, but in the late twentieth and twenty-first centuries, they have constructed a literary corpus that moves them beyond those parameters. Gloria E. Chacon considers the growing number of contemporary Indigenous writers who turn to Maya and Zapotec languages alongside Spanish translations of their work to challenge the tyranny of monolingualism and cultural homogeneity. Chacon argues that these Maya and Zapotec authors reconstruct an Indigenous literary tradition rooted in an Indigenous cosmolectics, a philosophy originally grounded in pre-Columbian sacred conceptions of the cosmos, time, and place, and now expressed in creative writings. More specifically, she attends to Maya and Zapotec literary and cultural forms by theorizing kab'awil as an Indigenous philosophy. Tackling the political and literary implications of this work, Chacon argues that Indigenous writers' use of familiar genres alongside Indigenous language, use of oral traditions, and new representations of selfhood and nation all create space for expressions of cultural and political autonomy. Chacon recognizes that Indigenous writers draw from universal literary strategies but nevertheless argues that this literature is a vital center for reflecting on Indigenous ways of knowing and is a key artistic expression of decolonization.
Book Synopsis Women and Social Movements in Latin America by : Lynn Stephen
Download or read book Women and Social Movements in Latin America written by Lynn Stephen and published by University of Texas Press. This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Women's grassroots activism in Latin America combines a commitment to basic survival for women and their children with a challenge to women's subordination to men. Women activists insist that issues such as rape, battering, and reproductive control cannot be divorced from women's concerns about housing, food, land, and medical care. This innovative, comparative study explores six cases of women's grassroots activism in Mexico, El Salvador, Brazil, and Chile. Lynn Stephen communicates the ideas, experiences, and perceptions of women who participate in collective action, while she explains the structural conditions and ideological discourses that set the context within which women act and interpret their experiences. She includes revealing interviews with activists, detailed histories of organizations and movements, and a theoretical discussion of gender, collective identity, and feminist anthropology and methods.
