A. Salvatore. Much to the seething dismay of his long-time mistress, King Danube has asked Julsepnie Wyndon to become his queen. But she is torn. How can she love any man as completely as she did the Ranger Elbryan, the father of the child she lost? But unknown to Jilseponie, that child never died. Aydrian was stolen away by the queen of the elves. A headstrong boy secretly raised to be a weapon, Aydrian shows great promise in the arts of combat, and he is as powerful with the gemstone as his mother. Now, De’Unnero, the weretiger and mortal enemy of Jilseponie, will join forces with Aydrian, who is hungry for power and on a collision course with destiny. Building upon the events in Mortalis, #1 New York Times bestselling author R.A. Salvatore continues the fresh second trilogy within the DemonWars saga with his fifth book in the series.

Book excerpt: In the mountain valleys of Nepal, Tibetan communities have long been established through migrations from the North. Because of these migrations over the last few centuries, Tibetan lamaism, as one of the world's great ritual traditions, can be studied in the Himalayas as a process that emerges through dialogue with the more ancient shamanic tradition which it confronts and criticizes. Here for the first time is a thorough anthropological study of Tibetan lamaism combining textual analysis with richly contextualized ethnographic data. The rites studied are of the Nyingma Tibetan Buddhist tradition. In contrast to the textual analyses that have viewed the culture as a finished entity, here we see an unbounded ritual process with unfinished interpretations. Mumford's focus is on the "dialogue" taking place between the lamaist and the shamanic regimes, as a historic development occurring between different cultural layers. The study powerfully demonstrates that interrelationships between subsystems within a given cultural matrix over time are critical to an understanding of religion as a cultural process.

Dune: The Lady of Caladan — Lady Jessica, mother of Paul, and consort to Leto Atreides. The Lady of Caladan has already betrayed her ancient order of the Bene Gesserit, but now she must decide if her loyalty to the Sisterhood is more important than the love of her own family. Meanwhile, events in the greater empire are accelerating beyond the control of even the Reverend Mother, and Lady Jessica's family is on a collision course with destiny. Book excerpt: A healing resource that blends practical plant-based knowledge with spiritual reconnection to show how respect for and communion with our natural world guides us toward healing. Combining Vanessa's story of her own healing journey with practical plant-based knowledge, Awakening Artemis is rooted in the belief that healing happens through reclaiming an intuitive connection to ourselves, to the natural world, and to our own "inner wild." Having experienced a series of physical traumas growing up--including chronic asthma, a car accident that fractured her back and neck, and sexual trauma--Vanessa pursued various approaches to therapeutic movement from martial arts to yogic practices and explored traditions honoring the mind-body connection while forging a path to recovery. Twenty years now into her journey to reconcile her daily routines with her yearning for greater purpose and connection, Vanessa shares the eclectic mix of elements that have brought her deeper self-awareness, a richer understanding of her place in the world, and the confidence and clear boundaries to truly connect with her loved ones. Organized into five sections that move from the present moment to the forest edge, and into the healing darkness, each chapter focuses on a single plant: on their power to connect us to our bodies and our environment. Using storytelling from her own life, Vanessa connects the plants' power and characteristics to issues we all grapple to heal from and even to understand--from the alienating consequences of cultural appropriation to the intersection between a forest's mycelial network and the neural pathways of our brains. For those seeking to recognize the power and omnipresence of the natural world--from the mugwort sprouting in the city sidewalk to the majesty of a three-thousand-year-old yew in rural Scotland--and harness that to push into new realms of self-discovery, Awakening Artemis is an intimate, unforgettable resource capturing one woman's journey to heal her traumas that opens up a world of potential growth and healing for us all.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this expanded and revised edition of a fresh and original case-study textbook on environmental ethics, Christine Gudorf and James Huchingson continue to explore the line that separates the current state of the environment from what it should be in the future. Boundaries begins with a lucid overview of the field, highlighting the key developments and theories in the environmental movement. Specific cases offer a rich and diverse range of situations from around the globe, from saving the forests of Java and the use of pesticides in developing countries to restoring degraded ecosystems in Nebraska. With an emphasis on the concrete circumstances of particular localities, the studies continue to focus on the dilemmas and struggles of individuals and communities who face daunting decisions with serious consequences. This second edition features extensive updates and revisions, along with four new cases: one on water privatization, one on governmental efforts to mitigate global climate change, and two on the obstacles that teachers of environmental ethics encounter in the classroom. Boundaries also includes an appendix for teachers that describes how to use the cases in the classroom.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One man's quest to becoming a man that Hemingway would be proud to call un compadre. Ben Franklin. Teddy Roosevelt. John Wayne. Babe Ruth. Ernest Hemingway. Looking to follow in the footsteps of these manly men, Frank Miniter decided to go to the places we all agree still make men. This quest led him across the world and finally to a secret fraternity of men who keep an ultimate rite of passage alive. Following the route of the iconic “Papa” Hemingway from Paris to Pamplona with he found that the answers to what happened to manliness, and therefore to what makes men, are in Hemingway’s story. Part memoir, part how-to guide, This Will Make a Man of You narrates one man’s journey to achieving manliness and uncovers a formula the ancients used to build men of character—a methodology that is still used in the places we all agree still make men. Even better, this formula can help all of us become all we want to be. Through his narrative, Miniter recounts his decision to run with the bulls and his harrowing participation in that intense event with a secretive fraternity of men and women. As he goes he provides readers with sage advice on how they can accomplish their own feats of manliness by using an ancient formula. This is a must-read for every young man looking for a way to become man, for any middle-aged family man seeking adventure, and for all the other types of men in-between. This Will Make a Man Out of You should be read by every red-blooded male.
