Book Synopsis Price of the Modi Years by : Aakar Patel
Download or read book Price of the Modi Years written by Aakar Patel and published by Penguin Random House India Private Limited. This book was released on 2022-06-27 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Columnist, author and political commentator, Aakar Patel has long been a close observer of the political scenario. In Price of the Modi Years, he seeks to explain the data and facts on India's performance under Narendra Modi. Modi's predecessor, Manmohan Singh, had once said that Modi would be a disaster as prime minister. This book shows how. It concedes Modi's popularity; this is an accounting of the damage he has wrought. It is the history of India since 2014, assessing the damage across the polity from the economy, national security, federalism, foreign relations, legislations and the judiciary to media and civil society. Our memories are not long, news cycles are transient and incidents are forgotten or misclassified as being only episodic, unless documented, unified and placed together as a record. And, therefore, this book-a history of these present times.

This book was released on 2014-10-10 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Post-reform India has seen a decline in agricultural growth as well as supply–demand imbalance and rising prices. This book presents a comprehensive analysis of domestic and international prices and trade since 1980–81, covering the past quarter of a century. Backed with rich data, it provides comparisons between the pre- and post-liberalisation policies and their effect on farm profitability, domestic prices and prices variability, and examines their possible role in determining the trajectory of agricultural growth since 1991. The book will appeal to students, scholars and researchers of agriculture studies, economics, finance, and development studies, as well as policy makers and agriculture experts.
Book Synopsis North-South Grain Markets And Trade Policies by : David Blandford
Download or read book North-South Grain Markets And Trade Policies written by David Blandford and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-03-13 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is composed of a series of case studies. The countries included reflect the interest and experience of the authors who collaborated in preparing the volume. No attempt was made to provide representative coverage based upon a comprehensive classiftcation of countries, which is why there are no chapters dealing with such exporters as Argentina or Thailand or importers such as Egypt or Japan. Despite the somewhat eclectic geographical mix, many of the fundamental issues that face the North and the South, both individually and collectively, are illustrated by the case countries. We would argue that there is much to be learned about the effective implementation of policy choices and the constraints that policymakers face by looking at individual country experiences, rather than by attempting to generalize on the basis of an abstract theoretical framework There is a dearth of information on what countries actually do in managing domestic grain markets.

Book Synopsis Market, Regulations and Finance by : Ratan Khasnabis
Download or read book Market, Regulations and Finance written by Ratan Khasnabis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-03-18 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume’s primary contribution to the field of Economics is that it addresses the issue of inter-linkages between money, finance and macroeconomics with a broad analytical perspective that has commonality with the Post-Keynesians. In an attempt to assess the consequences of economic reforms and the fallout of the global financial crisis on India and the world around, the book argues that with the onset of the crisis, as in most advanced economies, debates and discussions in India have been concerned with three main issues: monetary policy and asset prices, financial stability, and macro-prudential regulation. Three related issues which are also considered important in the Indian context are – rule vs. principle-based supervision, integrated financial supervision, and regulatory and supervisory independence. The book argues that the crisis highlighted the inadequacies of macro-prudential regulatory structure which mainly addresses idiosyncratic risks specific to individual financial institutions. The crisis precipitated an extensive debate on the role of national regulatory and supervisory authorities in crisis prevention and crisis management via macro-prudential regulations which involves a general equilibrium approach to regulation aiming at safeguarding the financial system as a whole. The book then argues that the crisis led to a paradigm shift in macroeconomic theory and policy. This shift has been categorized into four specific areas: monetary policy, financial regulation, corporate governance, and globalization. The book analyses how the characteristics of each of these four categories have changed from the pre-crisis to the post-crisis situation. The book also delves into the phenomenon of rising global commodity prices post-crisis. The book also deals with an analysis of the impact of this crisis on employment in the US economy, by simulating a macroeconomic model developed by the Cambridge Department of Applied Economics in the 1980s.
