Following a piloting process where over 350 stakeholders participated, an earlier prototype of the list was revised and translated into a tool to support AI developers and deployers in developing Trustworthy AI. The tool supports the actionability the key requirements outlined by the Ethics Guidelines for Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence (AI), presented by the High-Level Expert Group on AI (AI HLEG) presented to the European Commission, in April 2019. The Ethics Guidelines introduced the concept of Trustworthy AI, based on seven key requirements: human agency and oversight technical robustness and safety privacy and data governance transparency diversity, non-discrimination and fairness environmental and societal well-being and accountability Through the Assessment List for Trustworthy AI (ALTAI), AI principles are translated into an accessible and dynamic checklist that guides developers and deployers of AI in implementing such principles in practice. ALTAI will help to ensure that users benefit from AI without being exposed to unnecessary risks by indicating a set of concrete steps for self-assessment. Book excerpt: This report details the research activities and validation efforts undertaken in the development of the two personnel evaluation inventories designed during this project, and outlines the instruments' operational uses. The major objective of this research program was to develop new methods for evaluating persons who apply for positions in police work and for assessing the potential of present police officers being considered for promotion. In order to accomplish this, critical features of four different police jobs were determined. These jobs were general patrol officer, investigator/detective, patrol sergeant, and intermediate command. The means by which these critical features and other information such as job performance ratings were utilized to develop and validate two personnel evaluation instruments are described in detail. The first evaluation instrument developed, which came to be called the police career index, consists of a brief, easily administered and objectively scored inventory to be used in preliminary screening of applicants and candidates for police jobs. The second procedure, the regional assessment center, consists of a series of police job simulation exercises designed to elicit behavioral indicators of a person's potential for success in various aspects of police work. Procedures for utilizing these instruments are outlined. Appendixes to this report include job performance description booklets for the four police positions, and tables showing reliability estimates for job performance ratings.

In making this case, this book takes a quantitative, social science-based approach to understanding the role of emotions in shaping individual-level effects to preventative health messages disseminated through mass media channels. The book focuses on how discrete emotions evoked by preventative health media messages influence how audiences respond to those messages. Are they persuaded to change their behavior? Will they seek more information? Will they share information with others? Will they support prevention-focused policies? While a rich literature exists on the effects of health-related fear appeals on audiences, researchers have yet to fully explore the role that other discrete emotions play in health communication processes and outcomes. Although some individuals are at higher risk due to non-modifiable risk factors, between 30-40% of all cancer cases are estimated to be preventable through healthy lifestyles, including healthy diets. In 2018, a report from the World Cancer Research Fund and the American Institute for Cancer Research promoted ten cancer prevention recommendations on diet and nutrition. But characterizing a healthy diet is not easy, since foods and nutrients are not consumed alone. Over the past decade, dietary pattern analysis has emerged as an alternative and complementary approach to evaluating the relationship between diet and cancer risk. Instead of looking at individual nutrients or foods, dietary pattern analysis examines the effects of the overall diet. Conceptually, dietary patterns represent a broader picture of food and nutrient consumption, and may thus be more predictive of disease risk than individual foods or nutrients. Research on the effects of diet, nutrition, and physical activity on the risk of cancer in cancer survivors is growing, but it is much more limited than that on risk. Therefore, the current lifestyle recommendations for cancer survivors should be similar to those for cancer prevention until we do not have specific recommendations.
