Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Book Description The stories in this book are from the life of an unusual woman. She is unusual because of the many different kinds of things that have happened to her. After her husband died, she raised her three children in very difficult circumstances in spite of the many setbacks she faced. From the stories from her childhood through her days working for Texas newspapers, she covered everything from macaroni to murder. As a mission interpreter for the National Presbyterian Church U.S.A., she traveled into jungles where there were grass fires and snakes and angry people. She also traveled where there was love and concern and caring people. Some of her life stories are extremely humorous and some are tragic. Her two books, To the Ends of the Earth and A Little Bit Farther, are stories from the many mission areas in various countries around the world. Marj also had a daily column in the Big Spring Herald called "Riding Fence" and now emcees a radio talk show by the same name. Her travels took her into Communist Russia when it was still behind the Iron Curtain and afterward. She also went to North Korea and met the leadership there. Very few people can say that. She went from Brazil to Zimbabwe and from Japan to the Ivory Coast. Marj set up the press conference for Hostage Ben Weir when he came home. And she did the first story of Dr. Kao in Taiwan when he was first released from jail. She admitted that her life had no plan and that she never knew what was coming next. As one of the very earliest women sports writers in Texas, she faced a lot of criticism. Her life took her to meet nine Presidents and many other well known politicians. She admitted that she never had the slightest idea where she was going with the life. "God must have planned it, I didn't," she admitted. Come step into the petunias in the White House Garden with Marj and see where you go from there.
Book Synopsis Scattered and Gathered by : Sadiri Joy Tira
Download or read book Scattered and Gathered written by Sadiri Joy Tira and published by Langham Global Library. This book was released on 2020-07-31 with total page 498 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The twenty-first century is marked by mass migration. Massive population movements of the last century have radically challenged our study and practice of mission. Where the church once rallied to go out into “the regions beyond,” Christian mission is currently required to respond and adapt to “missions around.” As a result, leaders in this field have been developing diaspora missiology to provide a missiological framework for understanding and participating in God’s redemptive mission among peoples living outside their places of origin. In this volume, experts in diaspora missiology from across the globe analyze the development of missions to migrants and add to our understanding of the contemporary church’s opportunities and responsibilities for mission amongst diaspora groups.

Download or read book Quiet Odyssey written by Mary Paik Lee and published by University of Washington Press. This book was released on 2019-11-04 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mary Paik Lee left her native country in 1905, traveling with her parents as a political refugee after Japan imposed control over Korea. Her father worked in the sugar plantations of Hawaii briefly before taking his family to California. They shared the poverty-stricken existence endured by thousands of Asian immigrants in the early twentieth century, working as farm laborers, cooks, janitors, and miners. Lee recounts racism on the playground and the ravages of mercury mining on her father’s health, but also entrepreneurial successes and hardships surmounted with grace. With a new foreword by David K. Yoo, this edition reintroduces Quiet Odyssey to readers interested in Asian American history and immigration studies. The volume includes thirty illustrations and a comprehensive introduction and bibliographic essay by respected scholar Sucheng Chan, who collaborated closely with Lee to edit the biography and ensure the work was true to the author’s intended vision. This award-winning book provides a compelling firsthand account of early Korean American history and continues to be an essential work in Asian American studies.
