Book excerpt: There is a war command I want to unleash in your midst, God told me. The army's mission is to defeat demonic forces. I am convinced that the church is infested with demonic forces. We deal with a lot of evil entities in our day-to-day lives. Earth continues to bear the consequences of Adam and Eve's curse, which is still in effect. For us to believe that we are completely free of sin would be naive. We all have to cope with demons in the real world. We are powerless to deny it. Many people believe that I have nothing to worry about. Things of this world don't concern me. You don't think that'll ever happen? There must be something wrong if we aren't dealing with the situation. Somehow, we've gotten ourselves into a jam. Jesus is reported to have thrown out 25 percent of the demons he expelled throughout his miracles. In a sense, whether we like it or not, we were born into a combat zone. A combat zone is where you are born again. As a result of Adam and Eve's sin, we have been thrust into a spiritual battleground where we must contend with those in positions of authority who harbor malice toward God. Talking about the devil, whether or not there is still a serpent about. He is still trying to seduce and just destroy us and sway us off of the path that we are supposed to be on... We're all forced to deal with people who have chosen, and here's what I mean by this, they've decided by their own free will to live a life on the dark side of the spectrum..

These majestic animals were impressed into service, trained, prepared for battle, and turned into expendable implements of war. There is more to this story, however. When an army’s means and survival is predicated upon an animal whose instincts are to flee rather than fight, a bond of mutual trust and respect between handler and horse must be forged. Ultimately, the Battle of Gettysburg resulted in thousands of horses killed and wounded. Their story deserves telling, from a time not so far removed.

Book excerpt: "In Stand Firm, John MacArthur resounds the Christian's call to holiness. He does this by outlining some of the dimensions of the Christian life, especially as it relates to living in a post-Christian era. First, he addresses the importance of having and maintaining a Christian conscience. Second, he talks about the importance of the Christian to not only his neighbor but also to love his enemy, and this is largely done through a focus on the teaching of Deuteronomy and on the teaching of Jesus Christ in Matthew 5. Third, he further elaborates on the nature of the Christian love and the fact that it often mean loving in a sacrificial way that can require suffering. Fourth, he asserts the necessity of prayer in the Christian life and also elaborates on the true substance of Christian prayer. Fifth, he corrects any false notion that Christian faith is meant to garner influence in culture. He calls this the "myth of influence." Finally, he drives home the importance of persevering to the end of this life as a distinguishing mark of the Christian life, underscoring the title of the book, Stand Firm"--

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Americans eat more processed foods than anyone else in the world. We also spend more on military research. These two seemingly unrelated facts are inextricably linked. If you ever wondered how ready-to-eat foods infiltrated your kitchen, you’ll love this entertaining romp through the secret military history of practically everything you buy at the supermarket. In a nondescript Boston suburb, in a handful of low buildings buffered by trees and a lake, a group of men and women spend their days researching, testing, tasting, and producing the foods that form the bedrock of the American diet. If you stumbled into the facility, you might think the technicians dressed in lab coats and the shiny kitchen equipment belonged to one of the giant food conglomerates responsible for your favorite brand of frozen pizza or microwavable breakfast burritos. So you’d be surprised to learn that you’ve just entered the U.S. Army Natick Soldier Systems Center, ground zero for the processed food industry. Ever since Napoleon, armies have sought better ways to preserve, store, and transport food for battle. As part of this quest, although most people don’t realize it, the U.S. military spearheaded the invention of energy bars, restructured meat, extended-life bread, instant coffee, and much more. But there’s been an insidious mission creep: because the military enlisted industry—huge corporations such as ADM, ConAgra, General Mills, Hershey, Hormel, Mars, Nabisco, Reynolds, Smithfield, Swift, Tyson, and Unilever—to help develop and manufacture food for soldiers on the front line, over the years combat rations, or the key technologies used in engineering them, have ended up dominating grocery store shelves and refrigerator cases. TV dinners, the cheese powder in snack foods, cling wrap . . . The list is almost endless. Now food writer Anastacia Marx de Salcedo scrutinizes the world of processed food and its long relationship with the military—unveiling the twists, turns, successes, failures, and products that have found their way from the armed forces’ and contractors’ laboratories into our kitchens. In developing these rations, the army was looking for some of the very same qualities as we do in our hectic, fast-paced twenty-first-century lives: portability, ease of preparation, extended shelf life at room temperature, affordability, and appeal to even the least adventurous eaters. In other words, the military has us chowing down like special ops. What is the effect of such a diet, eaten—as it is by soldiers and most consumers—day in and day out, year after year? We don’t really know. We’re the guinea pigs in a giant public health experiment, one in which science and technology, at the beck and call of the military, have taken over our kitchens.

Book excerpt: When everything you know and think you are is stripped from you; when you feel isolated, lonely even in a crowd; when you feel like you are holding on to the promises of God by a small thin thread, that is the wilderness. The wilderness is a season of testing, trials, and fiery furnaces always purifying you. Although the Lord spoke to me through out this time, always uplifting me as you will read, the road was never the less rough, difficult, lonely, barren, and hard. It was a journey that started with pain and hurt, but ended in joy and peace; a journey of growing closer to Him. If you will allow me to I would like to walk with you and our Lord as you take your journey. Book excerpt: The Allies claimed victory at the end of the Second World War, but the United States’ invention of the atomic bomb and its replication by the Soviet Union posed new dangers for all nations. In Peace Prepared examines what Canada’s Cold War Army did to prepare for war – and why and how it did it. Although a Third World War never happened, army officers supported by a large civilian defence workforce of scientists, engineers, and designers responded aggressively to the challenges presented by the possibility of nuclear attack. Through innovation and adaptation, they developed a collaborative and systematic approach to problem solving that not only played a significant role in the evolution of Canada’s national force but also shaped how armies in the Western Alliance related to one another during the Cold War and beyond.
