This book was released on 2003-07-01 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: About three decades after the first experiments on deep inelastic lepton hadron scattering began to investigate the structure of hadrons, the history of this fruitful field of particle physics continues in the broad spectrum of research performed at the electron and positron proton collider HERA at DESY, where the multipurpose detectors ZEUS and H1 access ep scattering at a center of mass energy of 300 GeV and explore as yet uncharted kinematic realms of deep inelastic scattering. After the first years of data taking at HERA, each of the experiments has collected a total of roughly 40 pb 1 of e+p data, yielding sensitivity to deep inelastic e+p interactions at high four momentum transfers, Q2, where typi cal cross sections drop into the subpicobarn regime. This kinematic domain is characterized by electroweak unification, manifesting itself most markedly in the neutral and charged current cross sections, which approach an equal order of magnitude as Q2 rises above the square of the W and Z masses. Consequently, HERA allows, for the first time, studies of both types of pro cesses simultaneously with the same initial state conditions and in the same detector, and thus we can investigate the interplay of electroweak and strong forces governing the respective cross sections.
Book Synopsis Radiative Corrections to Deep Inelastic Electron-proton Scattering by : T. Kobayashi
Download or read book Radiative Corrections to Deep Inelastic Electron-proton Scattering written by T. Kobayashi and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: HERA (Hadron Electron Ring Anlage), the world first electron (30GeV)-proton(820GeV) collider has just started its preliminary data taking. Without careful considerations of radiative corrections to electron-proton scatterings we would not extract any reliable information on new phenomena from observed events. The purpose of teh present work is to present one-loop electromegnetic (QED) radiative corrections to neutral current deep inelastic electron-proton scattering at HERA energies.
Book Synopsis Deep Inelastic Scattering by : Masahiro Kuze
Download or read book Deep Inelastic Scattering written by Masahiro Kuze and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2007 with total page 996 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These proceedings present the most up-to-date status of deep inelastic scattering (DIS) physics. Topics such as structure function measurements and phenomenology, quantum chromodynamics (QCD) studies in DIS and photoproduction, spin physics and diffractive interactions are reviewed in detail, with emphasis on those studies that push the test of QCD and the Standard Model to the limits of their present range of validity, towards both the very high and the very low four-momentum transfers in leptonproton scattering.

This book was released on 1997 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This thesis presents a first study of various aspects of $K sp0$ and $ Lambda$ production in neutral current deep inelastic scattering of 27.5 GeV positrons and 820 GeV protons. The data were accumulated with the ZEUS detector at HERA in the 1994 run period. The average multiplicities for the neutral strange particle production as functions of pseudorapidity $ eta$ and transverse momentum $p sb{t}$ have been determined in the kinematic range 10 $GeV sp20.04.$ The particle and energy flow with respect to the struck quark direction, as well as the dependence of the average production rate as function of the four-momentum transfer $Q sp2$ and the hadronic centre of mass energy W of the ep scattering process have been studied. The K$ sp0$ and $ Lambda$ multiplicities in the kinematic range 10 $GeV sp20.04$ are compared with the results from data from the 1993 run period with 26.7 GeV electrons and 820 GeV protons. The production mechanisms of $K sp0$ in events with and without large rapidity gaps with respect to the proton direction are compared in order to probe differences in diffractive and non-diffractive scattering processes." --

Book Synopsis Experimental Study of Initial State Radiative Events at HERA and a Measurement of the Proton Longitudinal Structure Function by : Jason Schwartz
Download or read book Experimental Study of Initial State Radiative Events at HERA and a Measurement of the Proton Longitudinal Structure Function written by Jason Schwartz and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A first measurement of the radiative contribution to deep inelastic electron-proton scattering has been performed with the ZEUS detector at HERA. Results show consistency with predictions made by the HERACLES Monte Carlo program. New calibration and simulation of the far luminosity measurement system, including a photon calorimeter and two aerogel Cherenkov detectors, have been implemented. Both calibration and simulation were applied to tag photons produced in the initial state radiative process. These tagged events were used to perform measurements of the deep inelastic ep scattering reduced cross section down to momentum transfer squared, Q2 = 3.0 GeV2, a region normally inaccessible to ZEUS. A determination of the radiative contribution to deep inelastic scattering has aided in the measurement of the structure functions F2 and FL, which were simultaneously extracted in the kinematic region 8.0 GeV2
