Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High precision measurements of weak neutral current and charged current processes and of the properties of the Z and W bosons have established the standard electroweak model as correct down to a distance scale of 10-16 cm, and are a sensitive probe of possible underlying physics. In this book, all aspects of the program are considered in detail, including the structure of the standard model, radiative corrections, high precision experiments, and their implications. The major classes of experiments are surveyed, covering the experiments themselves, the data analysis, results, and prospects. This volume is a detailed reference for theoretical and experimental researchers, as well as an introductory text for advanced students.

Download or read book Electroweak Precision Tests at LEP written by Wolfgang Hollik and published by Springer. This book was released on 2000 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This review gives a brief discussion of the structure of the Standard Model and its quantum corrections. The predictions for the vector boson masses, the neutrino scattering cross-sections and the Z0 resonance observables are presented. The influence of virtual new physics effects on the observables is discussed with the minimal supersymmetric Standard Model taken as an example. Experimental measurements of electroweak observables are described with reference to studies performed at the e+e- collider LEP at energies close to the Z0 peak. The theoretical predictions are compared with experimental data and their implications for the Standard Model are discussed.

Download or read book Precision Tests of the Standard Model at Electron Colliders written by and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We review electroweak physics studies in high-energy ee− collisions at CERN and SLAC. Studies of couplings of the Z° boson to many of the fundamental fermions are now quite detailed, and those of the W{sup {+-}} bosons are well under way. Sensitivity to radiative corrections due to the massive top quark, the as yet undiscovered Higgs boson, and new physics at the TeV scale has been achieved. The Standard Model is consistent with all data, although further studies are indicated in several areas. In the absence of new physics, the Higgs mass is limited to

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present an overview of the present status and prospects for progress in electroweak measurements at future collider experiments leading to precision tests of the Standard Model of Electroweak Interactions. Special attention is paid to the measurement of the {ital W} mass, the effective weak mixing angle, and the determination of the top quark mass. Their constraints on the Higgs boson mass are discussed.
Book Synopsis Electroweak Physics at LEP and LHC by : Arno Straessner
Download or read book Electroweak Physics at LEP and LHC written by Arno Straessner and published by Springer. This book was released on 2010-03-14 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During more than 10 years, from 1989 until 2000, the LEP accelerator and the four LEP experiments, ALEPH, DELPHI, L3 and OPAL, have taken data for a large amount of measurements at the frontier of particle physics. The main outcome is a thorough and successful test of the Standard Model of electroweak interactions. Mass and width of the Z and W bosons were measured precisely, as well as the Z and photon couplings to fermions and the couplings among gauge bosons. The rst part of this work will describe the most important physics results of the LEP experiments. Emphasis is put on the properties of the W boson, which was my main research eld at LEP. Especially the precise determination of its mass and its couplings to the other gauge bosons will be described. Details on physics effects like Colour Reconnection and Bose-Einstein Correlations in W-pair events shall be discussed as well. A conclusive summary of the current electroweak measurements, including low-energy results, as the pillars of possible future ndings will be given. The important contributions from Tevatron, like the measurement of the top quark and W mass, will round up the present day picture of electroweak particle physics. This is an open access book.
Book Synopsis Tests of the Standard Theory of Electroweak Interactions by : Christian Kiesling
Download or read book Tests of the Standard Theory of Electroweak Interactions written by Christian Kiesling and published by Springer. This book was released on 1988 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this text the author gives a rather complete account of the available experimental information on neutral current reactions as predicted by the standard theory of electroweak interactions. The data, which range from atomic parity violation to the discovery of the W and Z bosons, impressively support the theory as formulated by Glashow, Weinberg and Salam. The experimental data are critically reviewed and related to the standard theory, whose formal essentials are presented in a transparent way. A complete compilation is given of precision measurements of the Weinberg angle. Special attention is paid to high energy electron-positron experiments at PEP and PETRA leading to the most precise value of the Weinberg angle so far made from such experiments. Latest results from the high-statistics deep-inelastic neutrino scattering experiments have been included along with recent measurements of neutrino electron scattering, data and analysis for polarized-electron nucleon scattering, polarized-muon scattering, atomic parity violation and proton-antiproton experiments establishing the nature of the intermediate bosons.
