Une fois introduits les concepts de base de la géométrie différentielle, une place importante est laissée au calcul différentiel et intégral sur les variétés. Sont également étudiés les groupes et algèbres de Lie, puis l’analyse harmonique sur les groupes de Lie, de manière à englober dans un même formalisme la transformation de Fourier et les séries de Fourier, et à donner un aperçu de l’analyse harmonique non commutative. La théorie des connexions permet de définir les notions de torsion et de courbure, et d’aborder la géométrie (pseudo-)riemannienne de la relativité générale.
