The caliber of teachers and guest instructors assembled there under the new directorship of Douglas McAgy was unmatched, and the school was one of the most avant-garde art schools of its time. On hand were photographers Adams and Minor White, along with Edward Weston, Dorothea Lange, Imogen Cunningham, Lisette Model, Nancy and Beaumont Newhall, and Homer Page. Alexi Lubomirski (born 1975) received his first camera at the age of 11 and began working with narrative-based fashion photography while he was studying at the University of Brighton in the UK. After finishing his studies, he was introduced to Mario Testino, who soon hired Lubomirski as an assistant. Toward the end of his four years with Testino, Katie Grand chose him to start shooting for the iconic Face magazine and subsequently Harper's Bazaar US. In 2008, Lubomirski had his first exhibition, Transit, a mixed-media commentary on TV culture, comprised of preconceived film stills, at MILK gallery in New York. He is currently based in New York.

Toward the end of his life Franz Liszt maintained extensive correspondence with two women who were at the time his closest confidantes, Carolyne von Sayn-Wittgenstein and Olga von Meyendorff. Liszt wrote to them regularly, expressing his intimate feelings about personal and career events and his conflicted self-image as a celebrated performer but underappreciated composer. Absent a diary, the letters offer the most direct avenue into Liszt's psyche in hisfinal years.
